  3.                     Pop-Format: Smart Pop-up Formatter    
  4.  
  5. What is it?.............Pop-Format is a TSR Formatter that gives you the 
  6.                       ability to Format *FLOPPY* Disks from within other 
  7.                       text screen applications or within DOS itself.
  8.  
  9. How does it work?.......Upon installation, Pop-Format will determine the 
  10.                       configuration of up to five drives.  To keep things 
  11.                       simple (and small), the Pop-Format utility will 
  12.                       check drives A: through E: to see if A) they exist 
  13.                       and B) they are Floppy drives (Removeable Media).
  14.                       If your disk system uses 5.25" or 3.5" drives with
  15.                       either DOUBLE or HIGH densities in any of those
  16.                       five drives, then the utility will install itself and 
  17.                       display a brief message.  
  18.                       
  19.                       This utility can format: 360K and 1.2 M - 5.25" disks
  20.                                                720K and 1.44M - 3.5 " disks
  21.                       
  22. What are it's limits?...Pop-Format will NOT give you access to any Hard 
  23.                       Drives as a safety precaution. You will simply be told 
  24.                       that the non-removeable drives are not available.  Also 
  25.                       note that Pop-Format will sense when the screen is in a 
  26.                       graphics mode and not display itself to avoid conflict 
  27.                       with your graphics programs. In keeping with the 
  28.                       Safe-To-Use style of programming that I prefer, I have 
  29.                       avoided allowing any other applications to carry on 
  30.                       while the formatter is active, they will simply be
  31.                       suspended until the user presses ESC to exit the 
  32.                       utility.  I have tried this program while running major
  33.                       applications such as Word Perfect, Lotus, etc. and have
  34.                       not found any problems with the utility but would 
  35.                       appreciate your feedback if you discover ANYTHING.

  37. How do I use it?........At any time after the initial installation, the 
  38.                       Pop-Format utility can be accessed by holding down
  39.                       the CTRL and ALT keys and pressing the "F" key. 
  40.                       Most of the keys to use are shown in the small 
  41.                       display window and all of them are listed below:

  43.                       Up/Down arrows..       Any of these 
  44.                       -/+................    combinations will 
  45.                       8/2................... select a FLOPPY drive
  46.                       PgUp/PgDn..........    to format by moving 
  47.                       Home/End........       the menu bar.

  49.                       SPACE - Toggles between HIGH and DOUBLE density
  50.                               formatting IF the selected drive can
  51.                               handle both styles.

  53.                       ENTER - Formats the selected drive.
  54.  
  55.                       ESCAPE- Clears the Pop-Up window and restores the
  56.                               underlying text, colours (if applicable), 
  57.                               and cursor position but keeps the Pop-Format 
  58.                               utility in memory.

  69. Any set-up needed?......There is no set-up required to tell the program 
  70.                       about your system so most people should be able to 
  71.                       get it running without too much instruction.  Just
  72.                       place POPFMT.COM in any directory or drive that you
  73.                       can get to and type POPFMT at the DOS prompt. The
  74.                       program does not require access to any disk files once 
  75.                       it has installed itself so it can even be installed 
  76.                       from a floppy if you wish. It is quite small (12.3 K) 
  77.                       but uses more room in memory (21.7 K).  Since the 
  78.                       Pop-Format window is black on white, you will not need 
  79.                       to worry about MONO/COLOUR problems.

  81. How do I De-Install?....If you need to pull Pop-Format out of memory to run
  82.                       a very large application just type POPFMT OUT at the 
  83.                       DOS prompt. The program will recognize a few different 
  84.                       De-Installation command styles for your convenience.

  94.                       (/-+) Delimiters are accepted but not required 
  95.                       except with the /U option.

  97. * Please note that POPFMT will sense when it is already running and will not 
  98. let more than one copy of itself reside in memory at one time. Also, you will 
  99. not have any problem trying to de-install it if it is not already resident 
  100. but for the sake of use from batch files etc., it will not default to 
  101. installing itself nor will it wait for a response by asking if you meant to 
  102. install rather than de-install.

  105. although I don't honestly expect most people to feel compelled to reimburse
  106. me for my time and effort, a small donation of, say five bucks? would
