In an eariler post I stated that the VIC outputs "Standard" Video
(In the UsofA it's NTSC) but that I had the pin out for the 5 pin DIN conector
at hom (got some cables here to hook it up with too)
Here is the pin out.....
In the book it's drawn like this
3 1 1 = + 5vdc 4 = Video 75 ohm
5 4 2 = Ground 5 = Video 300 ohm
2 3 = Audio out Shell either N/C or Ground
I beleive this view is looking INTO the socket or at the BACK of the plug
but use a Voltmeter to make SURE that you connect the audio to the audio in
and NOT the 5vdc, 5vdc may well fry the input of the tv/monitor.
It's one good picture when properly displayed. I use the direct VIDEO in
method myself. The output of the VIC is the "Combined Video" not the
Seprated video of the Commodore 64/128
One other intresting thign. If your VIC-20 has the flat, 2 pin power connecter
on it's side then it will run just fine on 12 vdc. (I'd suggest power line con-
ditioning just to be safe but I did not use much)
ON my van I ran a seperate "Aux Power" line from the battery (Stabelist source
of 12vcd) to a few extra ciggaret lighter type outlets and of course the cell-
phone. I ran a small (5-6") portable televison/monitor and the VIC-20 off one
of those outlets. Only thing you have to be careful of is poliarity on the
power plug. Put it in upside down and you can't turn it off (It will ground
via the television, Only one side of the power line is switched and you have to
be sure that the POSITIVE line goes to the switch). No harm will come from
plugging it in backwards however as it all goes to only two places.
1: Full Wave Bridge Rectifier
2: The "User Port"
Note you can not run a VIC-MODEM or selected other devices that REQUIRE
9vac on the user port when running the VIC off 12 VDC this way.
I now use that color TV to entertain me while I type on this PC, I also
use the VIC as a video titler by feeding the video out to my Cam Corder
video in as well. Works great!
