Main Screen - Parameter Menu
----------------------------
This section gives you control over
how a 3 voice MONO SID can be played.
You can select MONO playback. The
song will only play in 3 voice MONO
and no STEREO parameters will be
used. The rest of the controls in
the Parameter Menu will be ignored.
Next is the STEREO playback mode.
This will allow you to assign to each
of the three voices the side you
would like them to play on and for
how long.
Each voice has its own mode selector.
I you would like to have Voice 1 play
as MONO you can. Voice 1 will then
play on BOTH the right and the left
channels. You could also have Voice
2 and 3 play as STEREO. The control
for selecting the mode is the 'F5'
key and to change the voice you are
working on press the 'F3' key. If
you decide to have voice 2 and 3 as
STEREO, you can then select what side
you want each voice to start playing
on. Just press the 'R' or 'L' key to
select either the RIGHT or LEFT side
for each voice. The last control is
for the duration. This will allow
you to move the voices from LEFT to
the RIGHT and vise-versa while the
song is playing. You must use the
CURSOR keys to control this value.
This value can be anything from 0 to
99. If the value is 0 then the voice
will play ONLY on the side it started
on. If it is any number over 0 then
the voice will move from side to
side. An example would be if you set
Voice 1 to a duration of 1 then it
would play ONE note on the side it
started on (let's say the RIGHT) then
move to the LEFT for the next note
and back to the RIGHT for the next
one. If you also set Voice 3 to 23
and the LEFT side then voice 3 would
play 23 notes on the LEFT side and
then play 23 notes on the RIGHT side
and then continue to move back and
forth every 23 notes.
The third mode is a new one called
DELAY. This will allow you to FOOL
the player into THINKING a 3 voice
SID is a TRUE 6 voice SID.
You may select a DELAY from 1 to 9.
This value is used to determine how
long the RIGHT side should be delayed
before it starts playing music. This
is the same as using the EXPANDER
option on the main menus. If a 3
voice SID is stamped with this delay
value it will override the EXPANDER
value on the main menu. When the
delay is selected the MODE for each
voice changes to +/-. This will
allow you to transpose each voice up
or down. This functions the same as
inserting a TPS (transpose command)
in that voice. The difference is
that it is always in effect and in
addition to any TPS command in the
SID. Here is an example that is
similar to the Parameter Screen.
Playback: DELAY4
Voice M/S Dur Side
1 - 10 l
2 - 00 r
3 + 12 r
This SID will have an EXPANDER value
of 4.
Voice 1 will be transposed down 10
half-steps (l), while its RIGHT side
counterpart Voice 4 will not be
transposed.
Voice 2 will not be transposed and
its counterpart Voice 5 will not be
transposed either (DUR of 00).
Voice 3 will not be transposed and
its counterpart voice 6 will be
transposed UP 12 halfsteps (r).
This is how the DELAY works and it
makes many of the old 3 voice SIDs
sound fantastic. You will have to
experiment because each SID will be
different.
You can STAMP each SID with the
values you have set. This way each
and every time the SID is loaded into
SP V10 or above it will play in the
manner you have selected. If you DO
NOT have the second SID chip then the
parameters will be ignored. The
STAMPED SID can even be played on
other players without causing any
problems.
