File NOTICE2
Stereo Player Version 10.0 & 11.0
Copyright 1988 Mark A. Dickenson
This program is COPYRIGHTED and made
available on a FREEWARE type of
basis. This program can be freely
copied and distributed as long as it
is not SOLD or used as a give-away
with another product and this
documentation file must be included
with the program.
-------------------------------------
Main Screen - Command Screen #2
-------------------------------
1-9 - # OF REPEATS
You can select how many times a song
will play BEFORE quiting or moving on
to play the next song in the list.
There is a small window just to the
left of the HIGHLIGHTED song with a
number '1' in it. This indicates
that the song will play only once.
If you press the '1-9' keys it will
change to indicate how many times
THAT particular song will play. You
can set this parameter for each song.
Also when the song is playing a
number will appear between the word
PLAYING: and the name of the song.
This number represents how many times
the song will play before the player
will move to the next song. Example:
If there is a 1 between the word
PLAYING: and the song name, then this
will be the only time the song will
play. If there is a 3 there, then
the song will play 2 more times in
addition to the time it is currently
playing.
+ or - - MOVE BY 5
By pressing either the plus or minus
key you can jump forward or backward
5 song positions in the song list.
(Backarrow) - SAVE CONFIGURE
You can save how you have configured
the player to operate by pressing
this key. Make sure you save the
configuration file to the disk you
boot the player from. The following
items are saved to the configuration
file on device 8.
REPEAT (ON/OFF)
ADDRESS (of extra sid chip if one)
KEYBOARD type (POR/NEW/OLD)
MODE (STEREO/NORMAL/MIDI P/MIDI M)
FASTLOAD (ON/OFF)
AUX KEYS (ON/OFF)
PICTURES (ON/OFF)
INPUT DEVICE (8/9/10/11)
EXPANDER (0-99)
OPENING TYPE (old or new musical)
MIDI setups (channel designations)
S - SET MIDI CHAN
This command is DISABLED if the
'MIDI.MODULE' file is not present
during the program start-up.
This command will place a Cursor
inside the MIDI window at the lower
right corner of the screen. Press
the '*' key to set the MIDI channel
on each voice. You cannot set voice
1 and 2 to MIDI channel 1 at the same
time, the program will not allow it.
You can have voice 1 on MIDI channels
1,2,3,10 and 15 if you would like.
MIDI channel 0 is not accessable. If
you have set voice 1 to MIDI channel
1 and then set voice 3 to MIDI
channel 1 then the voice 1 setting
will be cleared. To clear (not use)
a MIDI channel press the '*' TWICE.
A - ADDRESS DE00/DF00/NONE
This will allow you to set the
address of where the extra SID
resides in memory, IF there is one
present.
K - KEYBOARD POR/NEW/OLD
There are three different keyboard
display routines you can select. The
first one is OLD and displays a lot
of vibrating keys when vibrato is
used. NEW will display the EXACT key
position of the note being played
(includes the transposed position).
The POR will use the NEW routines
except when PORtamento is used in the
song and then it will use the OLD
routine to give the sliding key
effect while still displaying the
correct notes. The POR is by far the
best selection, giving an accurate
AND lively keyboard.
M - MODE NORMAL/STEREO/MIDI P/MIDI M
The NORMAL mode will play NON-STAMPED
MONO files as a 3 voice mono file.
In the STEREO mode ALL 3 voice songs
will be played in a pseudo stereo
format (Voice 1 on the left side, 2
on the right side and 3 on both
sides). The MIDI mode will direct
the notes to the MIDI channels as
well as to the SID chips in the
computer. For more information on
how the MIDI portion works, refer to
the documentation that comes with the
'MIDI.MODULE'. NOTE: The
'MIDI.MODULE' will not be released
until sometime around the end of
September 1988, that is if there
aren't any complications.
F - FASTLOAD ON/OFF
This will disable and enable the
FASTload option of the player. You
must DISABLE the FASTLOAD option if
you are going to be accessing any
drive other than a 1541 or 1571 in
1541 mode. If you have 1581 you must
disable the FASTLOAD option before
you can use it. The default
configuration is with the FASTLOAD
option turned ON. If you want it to
be off everytime, turn the FASTLOAD
option off and save the configuration
with the BACKARROW key.
X - AUX KEYS ON/OFF
If the AUX is OFF then the keys on
the keyboard will stay the default
colors. When the AUX is ON then the
AUX commands in the MUSic file will
change the key colors. If you have
AUX color changes in the STR file,
they will change the colors of the
second set of keys if the AUX option
is turned ON.
L - PICTURES ON/OFF
When turned ON the player will load
any PICture files with the music and
when turned OFF the player will NOT
load the PICture file if present.
The formats supported are all DOODLE,
KOALA and BLACK & WHITE (Flexi-Draw)
compatible pictures. If you want to
add a picture to a MUSic file, just
rename it to the same name as the
MUSic file but change the extention
to .PIC on the picture. So you will
have a couple of files like this.
MYMUSIC.MUS - The music, and
MYMUSIC.PIC - The picture.
I - INPUT DEV 8/9/10/11
You can change where the player will
look for MUSic files and what device
all disk operations (directories,
scratching, ect...) will occur on.
E - EXPANDER 0-99
This option will only work on 3
voice, un-stamped songs. This works
like a reverb by delaying one side of
the music. The best sound comes from
the 4-6 range. You just have to
listen to it to understand it.
O - OPENING TOGGLE
You can select what opening you want
to use when the program first starts.
If the Border flashes WHITE then you
have selected the MUSICAL opening and
if the BACKGROUND flashes WHITE then
you have selected the 8.0 style,
non-musical, quick opening.
-------------------------------------
The KEYBOARD Screen Commands
----------------------------
RETURN - Toggle Picture
If you press the 'RETURN' key while a
picture is being displayed the player
will switch back to the KEYBOARD
screen. You can return to the
picture by pressing the 'RETURN' key
a second time. This will not disrupt
the display of WorDS (if present)
with the picture as they will stay in
sync.
F5 - ABORT
This will stop the song that is
playing and IMMEDIATELY return to the
MAIN MENU SCREEN. If you are playing
a group of selected songs or all
songs on the disk, the SONG SELECTOR
will display the song you aborted on.
F7 or SPACEBAR - BYPASSES
This will stop the current song that
is playing and move to the next song
if there are more. If you are
playing only one song or it is the
last song in the list or selected the
player will return to the MAIN MENU
SCREEN.
F - FAST
This will increase the speed of the
song to 3 times its normal speed. It
is to be used as a FASTFORWARD to
bypass sections of songs.
S - SLOW
This will slow the song to 1/3 of its
normal speed. This is great to see
how a song was arranged by playing it
slowly.
N - NORMAL
You must use this command to return
to the normal speed of the song when
the SLOW or FAST command has been
selected. NOTE: The player will
automatically reset back to NORMAL
play when a song finishes.
P - PAUSE
This command will pause the playback
of the song in the NORMAL, SLOW or
FAST modes. Just press the 'P' key
to restart the song.
