=*=*=*=*=*=*=*¢¢ Minutes of April 1st OHAUG Meeting¢ ------------¢¢ ALEX started the meeting by¢ covering the NEAR*US meeting held on¢ March 26, 1995 in Penn Station of¢ Newark, NJ due to the fact they were¢ unable to obtain a reasonable priced¢ meeting room. They reviewed the prior¢ meeting and went over questionaires¢ and open comments about NEAR*US by the¢ Steering Committee. They discussed the¢ needs of the individuals, BBSs, User¢ Groups, posible resources of NEAR*US¢ and the goals. The goals seem to be a¢ sort of unbrella group that would be a¢ source of information to anybody that¢ wants it regardless of platform.¢ JOHN MORDOSKY of LVAUG did an¢ excellent job of preparing for this¢ meeting by doing a lot of thinking and¢ putting it down on paper, also by¢ doing an outstanding job in chairing¢ this meeting. JOHN did a survey of the¢ questionaires with the following¢ results:¢ "Should we rename NEAR*US",¢ 53% said no;¢ "What computers do you use",¢ Mostly 8-BIT, some ST and some both.¢ The next meeting is scheduled for¢ June 17, 1995. The meeting place is¢ not known at this writing (There is a¢ possibility that it will be held at¢ OHAUG's meeting room in Plainview,¢ NY, There may be a SWAP FEST. BOB¢ PUFF, may come. (See the full¢ report on side 2 of this newslettr!)¢ ALEX read a notice on the Trenton¢ Computer Festival at Mercer County¢ Community College, one of the biggest¢ in America, April 22 to 23. Flea¢ market has hard and software at almost¢ giveaway prices, but know what you are¢ buying. $8.00 for a two day admission¢ tickets--Saturday and Sunday. There¢ will be parking lot buses to the¢ Festival.¢¢ CORRESPONDENCE¢¢ A letter from JEAN BROKOW of¢ P.A.C.E. in Largo, Fla. thanking ALEX¢ for the upgraded MICROCHECK disk. She¢ had the original, but this new version¢ is so easy to use. It will make a¢ great addition to their club library.¢ She also asked for some other disks¢ which ALEX sent her.¢ BOB SCHOLAR of S.L.C.C. sent ALEX¢ a nice letter thanking him for disks¢ received. BOB is one of the few 8-bit¢ members of S.L.C.C. and is responsible¢ for their "DOM". These disks of¢ programs will help him fill his¢ "DOM"s, in the future.¢ ALEX wrote a letter to GEORGE¢ EIKIN of H.A.C.E. requesting a copy of¢ his program called CAMCORDER for our¢ library. This is ALEX'S second¢ request. It looks like a good program.¢ ALEX received a letter from OHAUG¢ member JOHN POWELL in Arizona¢ complimenting him on the latest issue¢ of our Newsletter. He asked ALEX to¢ furnish the addresses of several Clubs¢ so that he could write to them. He¢ also thanked HAROLD PEGLER librarian¢ for sending him the complete set of¢ PrintShop ICON disks from the OHAUG¢ library. John also asked if OCTAVIAN¢ GRECO needs another 1050 disk drive.¢ ALEX wrote back with list of clubs and¢ replied that OCTAVIAN surely could use¢ the drive,but JOHN should be prepared¢ for a big mailing bill.¢ FRANK KUZLOSKI, via New Nest BBS¢ left ALEX a very long letter on how he¢ wanted to make a dictionary of certain¢ words for himself. He obtained a¢ program from New Zealand, went to¢ local library and was typing every¢ word with each letter. By using¢ TextPro and special programs for¢ sorting, he finally has a personal¢ dictionary the way he wants. He show-¢ ed the power of TEXTPRO to do many¢ more things than just word processing.¢ ALEX responded by commending him¢ on using the various programs the way¢ he did and accomplishing his goal. His¢ own private spelling dictionary-A to Z¢ RON FETZER thanked HAROLD PEGLER¢ librarian for the information on where¢ to locate the OS chip in the 800XL.¢ RON was then able to change the chip¢ to Revision C.¢ JOE HICSWA sent ALEX a disk on¢ Daisy Dot fonts. ALEX sent him DAISY¢ DOT II, with the DOCS.¢ Letter from JIM HOOD informing¢ ALEX that STEVE HOFFEE has resigned as¢ Disk Editor of Atari Classics magazine¢ due to medical problems. BOB WOOLLEY¢ is working to prepare a disk for the¢ upcomming issue. At this time there is¢ only about 125 disk subscribers, so¢ BOB and JIM decided to copy the disk¢ themselves and include them with the¢ magazine when mailed. They should have¢ things ready to mail by the end of the¢ month. This DOM has 2 games (with¢ DOCs): "FELTRON.BAS" a text adventure¢ and "NUKEXL.BAS" a game/simulation for¢ one player with joystick; 1 utility¢ "CREATOR.OBJ" (and DOC) lets you¢ create 12 sector. M/L, loading menues¢ similiar to the one used by BELLCOM;¢ and an application program "TEDIT.OBJ"¢ word processor from ANALOG #54 by¢ Bryan Schappel. Side 2 has a graphic¢ program "COLORIZ1" in 16 files, it¢ occupies the whole disk in 1050¢ density. It adds color to 16 grey¢ shade (GR.9) screens. There are eight graphic/music¢ demos some are really gorgeous:-¢ "Flexible Square", "Greetings Part",¢ "Sinus Worm", "Rzog Plazma",¢ "Partyland", "Filet Lazna", "Dragon¢ Bobs" and "Farewell". Side 2 is a game¢ "SIMPLE MINDS" by The Missing Link, a¢ New Generation Software. Every level¢ of the game displays an ugly face then¢ disappears. Your job is to reconstruct¢ the face by moving squares around,¢ similiar to jigsaw puzzle. Joystick¢ required.
