  4. QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE

  7. This version of Dr  Solomon's FindVirus is designed to
  8. run  on  IBM  PC  compatible  computers. Remember that
  9. FindVirus is just one  part of Dr Solomon's Anti-Virus
  10. Toolkit.
  11.  
  12. The  full  commercial   Toolkit  includes  many  other
  13. facilities including a user interface, TSR, VxD, Virus
  14. Encyclopedia etc as well as versions specific for DOS,
  15. Windows  3.x,  Windows  95,  Windows  NT, OS/2, Novell
  16. NetWare,  Unix and  Apple Macintosh.  Read TOOLKIT.TXT
  17. for more information on this.

  19. If  you  suspect  you  may  have  a  virus we strongly
  20. recommend that you cold-boot (not Ctrl-Alt-Del) from a
  21. clean  (virus-free), write-protected  floppy disk  and
  22. run  FindVirus  from  a  write-protected  floppy. This
  23. ensures that the virus will not be in memory while you
  24. are scanning or attempting to repair the infection. If
  25. FindVirus detects  a virus in memory  it will warn you
  26. with a suitable message.

  29. FINDVIRUS SYNTAX
  30. ================

  32. Users of  8086/286 machines will be  unable to use the
  33. /ANALYZE  and   /UNZIP  options,  as   they  are  only
  34. available on 386 PCs  and better. See the descriptions
  35. below for more details.

  37. Syntax
  38.            FINDVIRU [switches]
  39. Switches
  40.  
  41. /386 ............Force use of 386 version of FindVirus
  42.                  (which supports the unzipping and
  43.                   heuristic analysis command-line
  44.                   options).  FindVirus should
  45.                   automatically detect if you have
  46.                   a 386, but if you experience problems
  47.                   try this switch.
  48.  
  49. /ALLDRIVES or /AD.....Check all fixed disk drives,
  50.                       including network drives.
  51. /ANALYZE or /ANALYSE
  52. or /AN.......Use Advanced Heuristic Analysis
  53.              to detect new and unknown viruses.
  54. /DOALLFILES..........Check all files, not just
  55.              executables.
  56. /EXTRA=file .......... Use specified additional virus
  57.              driver file.
  58. /HELP or /? ..........Display command-line syntax.
  59. /LOCAL ............... Check local hard drives.
  60. /LOUD ................ Display verbose output.
  61. /NOPACK .............. Do not scan internally files
  62.                        compressed with PKLite, LZExe,
  63.                        ICE, CryptCom, Microsoft Expand
  64.                        and Diet (default).
  65. /PACK ................ Scan internally files compressed
  66.                        with PKLite, LZExe, ICE, CryptCom,
  67.                        Microsoft Expand and Diet.
  68. /PRINTOUT ............ Output report to printer as well
  69.                        as to screen.
  70. /REPAIR [/DELETE] .... Repair infected files.  The optional
  71.                        DELETE switch deletes files that
  72.                        cannot be repaired.
  73. /REPORT=file ......... Output report to specified file.
  74. /UNZIP ............... Scan recursively files compressed
  75.                        with PKZIP, ARJ, ARC, LZH, PKLite,
  76.                        LZExe, ICE, CryptCom, Microsoft
  77.                        Expand and Diet.  If you use this
  78.                        switch it is not necessary to use
  79.                        the /PACK option.
  80. /YESBREAK ............ Allow FindVirus to be interrupted
  81.                        during scan with Ctrl-Break.

  83.  There  are  a  lot  more  switches  available  in the
  84.  regular version of Dr Solomon's FindVirus included in
  85.  the   full   commercial   version   of  Dr  Solomon's
  86.  Anti-Virus Toolkit.

  91. FINDVIRU C:
  92.   Scans the C: drive for known viruses
  93.  
  94. FINDVIRU C: /UNZIP
  95.  
  96.   Scans  the  C:  drive  for  known viruses, including
  97.   inside compressed and archived files.
  98.  
  99. FINDVIRU C: D: /ANALYSE
  100.  
  101.   Scans  the C:  and D:  drives for  both known  *and*
  102.   unknown viruses.

  104. FINDVIRU /LOCAL /REPAIR
  105.  
  106.   Scans all  local fixed drives for  known viruses. If
  107.   any are found FindVirus will attempt to clean-up the
  108.   infection.

  110. FINDVIRU A: /REPORT=C:\REPORT.TXT
  111.  
  112.   Scans  the A:  drive  for  known viruses,  writing a
  113.   report to REPORT.TXT in the root directory of the C:
  114.   drive
