  8.  To install VINES 6.0 software on a DOS NDIS 
  9.  workstation, follow these instructions.  DOS 
  10.  must be installed on the target workstation 
  11.  C: drive, or you must have a bootable DOS floppy.
  12.  
  13.  1.  Use the DOS MD command to create a subdirectory 
  14.      called \VINES.
  15.  
  16.  2.  Copy the contents of the VINES LAN S/W (DOS) 
  17.      Install diskette into the \VINES subdirectory.
  18.  
  19.  3.  Copy the contents of the NDIS subdirectory on 
  20.      the VINES LAN S/W (DOS) 2 of 2 diskette into 
  21.      the \VINES subdirectory.
  22.  
  23.  4.  Copy the ELPC3.DOS from NDIS2\DOS on the 
  24.      EtherDisk diskette to the C:\VINES subdirectory.
  25.  
  26.  5.  Copy the PROTOCOL.INI fragment from the 
  27.      \MSLANMAN.DOS\DRIVERS\ETHERNET\ELPC3 subdirectory
  28.      on the EtherDisk diskette to the \VINES subdirectory.

  30.  6.  Edit the PROTOCOL.INI file to read as follows:
  31.  
  32.      [PROTOCOL MANAGER]
  33.       DRIVERNAME = PROTMAN$
  34.  
  35.      [VINES_XIF]
  36.       DRIVERNAME = NDISBAN$
  37.       BINDINGS = ELINKPC3
  38.  
  39.      [ELINKPC3]
  40.       DRIVERNAME = ELPC3$
  41.          
  42.  7.  Run the PCCONFIG.EXE program located in the 
  43.      \VINES subdirectory.
  44.  
  45.  8.  Select option 1, Network Card Settings.
  46.  
  47.  9.  Select the NDIS Ethernet option.
  48.  
  49.  10. The NDIS workstation screen appears.  Enter 
  50.      the IRQ that you selected for the 3C589 PC Card. 
  51.      Select the IRQ using the Configuration
  52.      and Diagnostic Program. 
  53.  
  54.  11. Press F10 twice to return to the first menu.
  55.  
  56.  12. On the next screen, select option 2, Login 
  57.      Environment Settings.
  58.  
  59.  13. On the next screen, select option 1, Default 
  60.      Communications Driver.
  61.  
  62.  14. In the next screen scroll down to NDIS Ethernet 
  63.      and press enter.
  64.  
  65.  15. Exit PCCONFIG by pressing [F10] to save the new 
  66.      configuration.
  67.  
  68.  16. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file and add the following 
  69.      lines, substituting A: for C: for a floppy 
  70.      disk installation.

  72.      DEVICE = C:\VINES\PROTMAN.DOS /I:C:\VINES
  73.      DEVICE = C:\VINES\ELPC3.DOS
  74.      LASTDRIVE = M
  75.  
  76.  17. Edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT file and add the following
  77.      lines:
  78.  
  79.      CD\VINES
  80.      BAN
  81.      CD\
  82.  
  83.      BAN loads the NDISBAN drivers and reads the 
  84.      PCCONFIG.OBJ file to invoke changes made during the
  85.      PCCONFIG stage.
  86.  
  87. If you are not using Card Services and you are using a 
  88. memory manager, you must exclude the CIS memory 
  89. range for the 3C589 PC Card and other Card Service devices.
