  1. Atoms, Symbols and Equations

  3. TRAPPING USERS
  4. The program can work in 2 modes: one offers a menu on each page so that
  5. users can enter and leave  program units at will; the other 'traps' the 
  6. user within a unit once started (to help  ensure that pupils stay on
  7. task). As supplied, there is a menu on each page for easier review.
  8.  
  9. QUICK EXIT
  10. When in the mode that traps the user, you may wish to terminate the
  11. program rapidly (perhaps at the end of a lesson). Do this by typing 
  12. a password into any answer box and clicking the page heading.
  13. On pages without answer boxes RIGHT click on the page heading and
  14. enter the password. The default password is "equation". 
  15.  
  16. ANSWERS
  17. There is an option to give answers to most questions after 3 consecutive wrong
  18. attempts. Home users, or those using the program for self study, will probably
  19. benefit from being given the answer. Teachers will probably want students to
  20. work out answers for themselves! In the unregistered program, the option to
  21. provide answers only works for Units 1 and 2.
  22.  
  23. HIGH SCORES
  24. The symbols game has a High Score option ('Hall of Fame') for users to enter 
  25. their name. This could be abused in a school context and so there is an option
  26. to switch off High Scores.
  27.  
  28. PRINT CERTIFICATE
  29. A printable certificate is displayed at the end of each unit. If you don't 
  30. want students to print certificates, then there is an option to hide the
  31. 'Print certificate' button. Also, some systems/printers seem only to print
  32. blank pages. Again, opt to hide the print button.

  34. The above options can be changed by running the program "options.exe" 
  35. (click on 'Change Options') The password is not secure and can be changed
  36. at any time. You can revert to the default password by deleting the file 
  37. "eqpass.opt" from the "equations" directory.
  38.  
  39. SOUND EFFECTS
  40. These can be switched off from within the main program - but this setting is
  41. not saved as the program is designed for use with sound.
  42.  
  43. On a network the 'options.exe' program should not be available to pupils.
  44.  
  45. This may seem complicated, but might help teachers keep one step ahead 
  46. of pupils!
  47.  
  48. Please print out a copy of this file for all teachers! And let them know 
  49. if you change the password.
