  2.                  SiS IDE Drivers Installation Utility

  5. 1. Uninstall SiS IDE DOS driver if you want to install SiS IDE
  6.    Netware driver.
  7.

  9. 2. Under "IDE DEVICE DRIVER INSTALL UTILITY", user can install
  10.    SiS IDE DOS,
  11.    SiS IDE Windows 3.x,
  12.    SiS IDE Windows for Workgroup 3.11,
  13.    SiS IDE Netware 4.1
  14.    drivers directly from according "INSTALL DRIVER" menu.

  16. 3. Under "IDE DEVICE DRIVER INSTALL UTILITY", user can read
  17.    installation procedures for
  18.    SiS IDE Windows 95,
  19.    SiS IDE Windows NT 3.5x,
  20.    SiS IDE Windows NT 4.x,
  21.    SiS IDE OS2 Warp 3,
  22.    SiS IDE Netware 3.x,
  23.    drivers from according "INSTALL DRIVER" menu.

  25. 4. Hard Drives' default wait states are set by using Hard Drive
  26.    internal information automatically. The recommended value table
  27.    for different mode Hard Drives is as follow :

  29.          Hard Disk Mode    4       3       2      1      0

  31.          Recovery Time     1       3       8      A      0
  32.          Active Time       3       3       6      6      0
  33.          ==================================================
  34.          Note that the range for Recovery Time is 0-F
  35.                          and for  Active  Time is 0-7.

  37.    In config.sys file, users can use /A /R and /M parameters to set
  38.    the wait states and IDE BUS MASTER CONFIGURATION SPACE BASE ADDRESS
  39.    manually. For example:
  40.         "DEVICE=C:\SISIDE\SISDR.SYS /A3456 /R6543 /M:4000"
  41.          means active time for channel 0 master is 3*30ns
  42.                                channel 0 slave  is 4*30ns
  43.                                channel 1 master is 5*30ns
  44.                                channel 1 slave  is 6*30ns
  45.  
  46.          recovery   time   for channel 0 master is 6*30ns
  47.                                channel 0 slave  is 5*30ns
  48.                                channel 1 master is 4*30ns
  49.                                channel 1 slave  is 3*30ns
  50.  
  51.          and the CONFIGURATION SPACE BASE ADDRESS is 4000h.

  53. Q & A :

  55. 1.      Under Windows 95, system will hang when accessing IDE CD-ROM 
  56.         Driver motion happened, such as open "My Computer", CD-ROM 
  57.         Autoplay ...... Etc.

  59. Ans:    When this situation happened, 
  60.         SiS suggest remove IDE CD-ROM DOS Driver provided by device company.

  62.         IDE CD-ROM DOS Driver Removing Procedure:

  64.         Please remark or delete "mscdex.exe"  command in c:\autoexec.bat 
  65.         and remark or delete IDE CD-ROM DOS Driver in c:\config.sys files,

  68. 2.      Novell Netware Server will hang when client is trying to login.
  69. Ans:    Please remember to use Uninstall function to remove SiS IDE DOS Driver
  70.         after SiS IDE Netware Driver installed.

  72. 3.      How to use 32-bit file access for Hard Disk and CD-ROM working at the
  73.         same channel in WFW 3.11 environment ?
  74. Ans:    It is a limitation of the system. You should either put the devices in
  75.         different channel or turn the 32-bit file access off.
  76.  
  77. 4.      DOS Driver adjusts HD speed by parameter :
  78. e.g:    You can write the following line in config.sys
  79.                 device=c:\siside\sisdr.sys /Rxxxx /Axxxx
  80.         Where x could be 0 .. 9, A .. F for speed .
  81.                 R : Recovery time
  82.                 A : Active time    ( ref. Above note 5 )

  84. 5.      After SiS IDE DOS driver installed. Some mode 4 hard disk will cause
  85.         system hang at the IDE driver loading procedure when we reboot the
  86.         system.
  87. Ans:    Users can avoid this by downing the speed in Manual function as Q&A 4.
