The Virus Protectors
Coded By Dream State (Glenn Edwards)
(c)1993 Virtual Infinity
"Practice safe computing, Use a virus protector"
This release of "The Virus Protectors" is a pre-release version. This
is a very basic version of the program. In the full version, there
will be no boring old TOS font for the menu, I will display the menu
using some nice 16 colours fonts instead.
QUICK INSTRUCTIONS (Until I can be bothered to write a decent manual!)
==================
There are 4 options in the menu, I will go through these one by one.
F1 - Install virus protector
----------------------------
Installing this onto a disk will protect you from infection by
reset-proof viruses. When you boot from a disk containing this
virus protector and there are no reset-proof viruses in memory,
the screen will flash blue (safe!), if when you boot there
there happens to be a reset-proof virus in memory, the screen
will flash red (not safe!). In the case of the screen flashing
red, you will be given 2 options, F1 - Clear memory or
F2 - Continue. If you choose F1, the ST will be cold-booted
(cold-booting an ST is like turning the power off!, no virus
can survive a cold-boot not matter what some people say!!). If
option 2 is chosen, the ST will continue the boot as normal.
N.B. Once booted, this virus protector will also protect your ST
from being infected by the ghost virus (until reset).
F2 - Install virus monitor
--------------------------
Installing this onto a disk will warn you if a newly accessed
disk has an executable bootsector. As we all know, viruses
usually reside in executable bootsectors. If a newly accessed
disk has an executable bootsector, the screen will flash red.
F3 - Toggle Drive
-----------------
This option toggle the drive between drives A & B. The current
drive is displayed in brackets after this option.
F4 - Quit to desktop
--------------------
Quits to the desktop (Obvious really!!)
N.B. You can also detect a virus by noticing if either the virus
protector or the virus monitor are deleted from any of yoor
disks.
Please report any extra features you would like to see, bug
reports, thanks to the programmer (me!) etc to Ictari Disk
Magazine.
