Version 1
This program is freeware, and may be freely copied and distributed by
anyone, provided the program is not tampered with in any way, and that
all files are enclosed.
Users who use this program do so at their own risk. The program has
however been tested and proven to be fully working. However if you do
report any bugs, I would be grateful if you could report them to me. My
address is contained in the README.DOC file, found on this
directory.
Brief Documentation
Personal Accountant provides the user with the option of keeping a
record of his/her bank account, by showing all day to day
transactions. Each different account can be saved to a file, and so the
limit to bank accounts is the limit a user has in disk space.
The following is a brief documentation of the features of personal
account. Explained are the menu headings and what they do. Most of
these should be obvious to current GEM users.
A. DESK - The title under this menu calls a dialogue box which shows
the current version number and the author.
B. FILE - The options here allow the user to
2. 'OPEN' a file - The user is prompted with a file selector for the
file to load.
3. 'SAVE' a file - The file is saved under the current name. If no
file name is present then this option is faded out, and 'SAVE AS' must be
first used.
4. 'SAVE AS' file - The user is prompted with a file selector.
He/she enters required filename.
5. 'STATUS' - A dialogue box presents the user with disk space and
memory space.
6. 'DELETE' - The user is prompted with a file selector for the
required file to delete.
7. 'QUIT' - leave the program.
C. ACCOUNT - The options provided here are.
1. 'CREATE' - The user is prompted for various account details such as
Bank, account number. The user can enter what he/she likes as such is
what appears on his/her statement.
2. 'EDIT' - The user can edit and details previously entered.
D. TRANSACTIONS - The options provided here are:
1. 'ADD' - The user is prompted for transaction details such as
amount, Credit/Debit etc. Where prompted for Debit/Credit the user
should type either debit or credit. This can be abbreviated to d or c
(Debit is money spent, Credit is money received).
2. 'EDIT' - The user can edit any previous entered transaction. If
the amount is changed the computer will recalculate all the following
balances, etc. Note: The user will need to know the transaction number
before he can enter it. This is shown by the statement. In edit mode
the mouse can be used to select which option to edit, or use the
cursor keys.
3. 'DELETE' - The user can totally delete any entered transactions.
The user is prompted for the transaction number required. The balances
will be re-calculated if a transaction is deleted.
4. 'RESET' - This is a useful feature when the transactions are high.
The user can use this option to delete all transactions, but carry the
closing balance as the opening balance. Therefore for example the user
can reset his/her transaction say every month, two months, year, etc,
i.e when they are no longer required.
E. STATEMENT - The option under this menu are
1. 'SHOW STATEMENT' - This shows the current statement to screen
2. 'PRINT ALL' - This prints all the statement to paper.
3. 'PRINT SOME' - This prints the required transactions to paper.
F. MINIBASE - The option under this menu form a mini database with a
maximum of 20 entries. Here the user can store pin numbers, telephone
numbers, bank card numbers, etc.
1 'ADD' - The user is prompted for the data, anything can be entered
and stored.
2. 'DELETE' - The user can delete any particular minibase entry.
3. 'SHOW' - This option shows all current minibase entries to screen.
4. 'PRINT' - This option allows the current minibase entries to be
printed to paper.
G. SETUP - The options under this menu are :-
'FUNCTION KEYS' - This allows the user to set a function key to any
particular text. e.g F1 = "Cash Withdrawal". All functions are
initially set to "Nik Bates".
'DATE' - This allows the user to set/change the current date.
'COLOURS' - This allows the user to set/change the colours - The
colour is stored in RGB style. i.e Red/Green/Blue. Therefore three
numbers must be entered, each one between 1 and 7. for example '700' is
red, 070 is green, and 007 is blue. '777' is white and '000' is
black. The user can alter colours until a preference is made. If
however colours are mixed and the text is the same colour as the
background, and the reader can no longer see what he/she is doing, then
the user can simply press <UNDO> to reset back to default colours.
'PASSWORD' - This allows the user to set a password on any particular
file. This means that a several files could have different passwords, or
that several users can use the program at once, each having their own
file and password.
'KEY CLICK' - This option allows the user to turn the key click on or
off. If its already on (DEFAULT) then pressing it will turn it off, if
it's off then pressing it will turn it on.
'PULL DOWN MENUS / DROP DOWN MENUS' - This allows the user to change
between drop down menus (DEFAULT) and pull down menus. In drop down
menus the menus automaticaly drop down if the mouse is dragged up to
the bar, whilst in pull down the button has to be pressed before the
menus drop down.
Please also note that most of the functions have a keyboard shortcut,
which users may find preferable to the mouse.
The date may also be changed by clicking on it with the mouse. Pointing
at it and pressing the left button will advance it by 1 day, and
pressing the right button will subtract 1 day. The same effect is
achieved with the '+' and '-' keys.
This program is simple to use, and most option speak for themselves.
There is however an example file in this directory which can be loaded by
the user to examine and experiment with this program. To load go to
"OPEN" on the file menu and click the file with the file selector. You
will be prompted with a password which is 'example'.
