v0.21 BETA

1.0 Introduction
This is just a short reference and not by any matter a complete
manual. The manual will be written after Liquid will reach version
1.00 (Non Beta).
Please report on any "interface" bugs (except of the Sequence screen)
to the address below. Sound routines bugs are well-known however.
a general discussion folder is available on my support site, where you
can find some LIQ's (hopefully), and leave all your remarks regarding
the tracker, includes: features you expect from a tracker, features
that are not needed, your general computer attribute (i.e. like if you
prefer a tracker which will work under MS-Windows, though it will be
slow, or you prefer a fast text-mode tracker)
1.1 The Sound Devices:
The Sound Blaster Pro and the Sound Blaster 16 are now fully
supported, in full stereo, unlike version 0.14, where only SB 1.00
was supported. note that I've written also an unique handler to the
SB 2.00, generally similar to the SB 1.00, but might work better
for compatibles, like GUS (?)
1.2 Differences between the "Editing device" and "HiFi Device"
These should use a different device because as the HiFi-devices
are mostly DMA-buffered devices and likely to have a late responce,
when you enter new note at the pattern editor the sound is heard
after a while. so, by default the <F6>, <F7> and "Entering new note"
invoke the Editing-Device (which might be slower, but has fast
response!) and the <F5> key invokes the HiFi Device, where you can
use the fastest, high-quality device. NOTE! for now there isn't
much use for that feature, for of all the sound devices are buffer
based.
1.3 Effects:
Currently only the effects J (Jump To Seq), C (Break pattern),
A (Set Tempo) and O (Sample Offset) are implemented, even though the
routines for L (Volume Slide), D (Porta Down) and E (Porta up),
have already been made, I should rewrite them (see above). Due to
the unique way I handle the samples periods, I cannot adjust the
Portamento commands to the MOD standards, for now (i.e. the
portamento effects MORE/LESS than it should be, in some conditions).
if someone knows how that effect should REALLY effect, contact me.
Nevertheless, the effects will be implemented.
2.0 Compatibility:
- For now, Liquid requires a 386 processor in REAL MODE, means
of course - NO QEMM, EMM386 nor 386^MAX.
As Sound Device, you'll need either SB, SBpro or SB 16. in the
future also all the covox devices, and a special first worldwide
introduced device (!)
- 15 Instruments SoundTracker modules are not yet supported, but
that's not really important at the moment...
2.1 Notes & warnings:
1) When changing the channels number in the SETUP menu,
It deletes all the patterns and the samples (no conversion yet)
2) Don't use the extanded video modes, unless you have TRIDENT
SVGA card! later I'll add support to all SVGA's, and to VESA.
(Hey! it works just fine for MY Trident ;-)
3) <F1> in the pattern editor gives quick help.
4) Many features has not been implemented yet, like 16BIT samples,
hardware & software mixers, directories setup, sample "kind"
(that feature will be used a lot in the future, for example,
to replace all the instruments in LIQ without the need to explore
each instrument!)
5) The save feature is not available in the distribution version,
so it's more like "MOD playing and browsing utility... ;-)"
6) That version is somehow 'compatible' with the Scream Tracker 2.25
keys. this is due to the fact that my No.1 beta-tester is a
"Scream Tracker fan" but in the future, there will be general
setup for all the function keys in Liquid.
7) Fine tunes, extanded temps, samples >64K - all of those has not
been implemented yet.
2.2 The Credits:
- Eyal Perek - For debugging HIMEM.SYS so succesfully ;-)
and by that helping me to get rid of that damn "A20" bug!
- Moti Radomski and Yosi Zinger - For being great beta testers
... A big fy goes to all the crackers/hackers/lamers in the world
