_________________
The following are considerations for all users of this
ServicePak:
o To install this version of the ServicePak, you must
have 1MB available on your hard disk with 100KB free
required on drive C. The size of the operating system
increases after you apply this ServicePak and varies
based on your specific system configuration. This
size increase will not exceed 1MB.
o You must install this ServicePak on the partition
where OS/2 for Windows is currently installed.
o You can only install this ServicePak over OS/2 for
Windows. Do not install this ServicePak over a beta
version of OS/2 for Windows. Installing this
ServicePak over a previous beta version is not sup-
ported.
o Do not use any OS/2 system files (such as OS2.INI or
OS2SYS.INI) from a previous version of OS/2 for
Windows with this ServicePak.

o COLOR DISPLAYS RUNNING IN HIGH-RESOLUTION
This information pertains to video support. If
you are using a resolution higher than 640x480x16
and you obtained the display driver from a source
other than the original OS/2 for Windows product,
the display driver is overwritten by this
ServicePak.
IBM has updated its display driver utilities to
recognize display drivers not packaged in the
original OS/2 for Windows product. To help users
recover their previous level of high-resolution
and color support, IBM has tested a represen-
tative set of display drivers that support a
broad range of popular display adapters and hard-
ware systems.
If installation detects one of the tested display
drivers for high-resolution or color support, it
sets the video to VGA. If this occurs, a warning
message is displayed, and you can stop the
installation. If you continue, the system will
be in VGA mode when installation is complete.
To add high-resolution or color display device
support to the list of drivers that this
ServicePak sets back to VGA, see "Installing
High-Resolution and Color" in the README.INS
file.
To determine the name of the high-resolution or
color driver:
a. Open OS/2 System folder.
b. Open Command Prompts folder.
c. Open an OS/2 window or OS/2 full-screen
session.
d. Type CD OS2\MDOS\WINOS2 and press Enter.
e. Type E SYSTEM.INI and press Enter.
f. Determine the file name of the Windows video
driver:
1) Locate the line in the SYSTEM.INI file
that starts with FDISPLAY=XXXXXXXX.XXX
where: XXXXXXXX.XXX is the device driver
name.
2) On a piece of paper, write down the file
name for use in Step 9 below.
g. Insert ServicePak Diskette 2 in drive A.
h. Type E OEMDRV.DAT and press Enter.
I. As a new line in the OEMDRV.DAT file, type
the file name you recorded in Step 6b above.
j. Save the OEMDRV.DAT file.
o COMPUTERS WITH 6MB OF MEMORY OR LESS
If you are installing on a system with 6MB of
memory or less, add the following lines to the
CONFIG.SYS file on ServicePak Diskette 2:
MEMMAN=SWAP, PROTECT
SWAPPATH=C:\OS2\SYSTEM 2048 2048
where: C:\OS2\SYSTEM is the drive and path that
has available SWAP space.

system. When you restart, the installation pro-
cedure uses the CONFIG.SYS file on Diskette 2 .
o SYSTEMS WITH TURBO, CACHING, OR ROM SHADOWING
CAPABILITIES
Hardware-performance features might cause a
problem on some systems, resulting in an unsuc-
cessful installation. The most common result is
a Trap 002, which occurs while transferring files
to the hard disk.
Some systems provide settings to enable/disable
performance features. If installation is unsuc-
cessful, change the settings in the CMOS to the
following:
- Turbo/System Speed to OFF/Slow
- Caching (External) to OFF
- ROM Shadowing (System and Video) to OFF
To improve system performance after installation,
you can change these settings back without dam-
aging OS/2 for Windows.
o CUSTOMIZED WINOS2.ICO FILE
This ServicePak updates the WINOS2.ICO file. If
you customized the original file, rename it
before installing. After installation, delete
the new WINOS2.ICO file, then rename the back up
copy to WINOS2.ICO.
o EISA SYSTEM WITH AN ADAPTEC 1742A CONTROLLER CARD
For an EISA system with an Adaptec(**) 1742A con-
troller card, run the Setup Configuration program

The kernel debug files also will be available on
the Developer Connection for OS/2 Volume 3
compact disc.
o QUANTUM HARD CARD
Change the BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD line in the
CONFIG.SYS file on ServicePak Diskette 1 to the
following:
BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD /A:1 /IRQ:11
These are the default settings for the Quantum
hard card.
If you add a device driver statement to the
CONFIG.SYS file on the ServicePak Diskette 1 and
later migrate the old CONFIG.SYS file, make sure
there is only one copy of this statement in the
CONFIG.SYS file. If there are two copies of this
statement in the file, comment one out with a REM
statement.
