1. CHECKING YOUR FREELANCE GRAPHICS PACKAGE
-------------------------------------------
Before you install Freelance Graphics, take time now to
check the disks and documentation in your Freelance Graphics
package. If your package is not complete, refer to "Missing
or Defective Components" in the Lotus Customer Support Guide.
NOTE: For Beta sites testing a Beta release of Freelance Graphics,
contact the Freelance Graphics Beta Manager, Martin Bauer, if your
package is not complete.
A. Disks
--------
Freelance Graphics is supplied on CD-ROM. If you do not
have a CD-ROM drive, you can request Freelance Graphics
on disk through the Lotus media exchange program.
NOTE: The Beta release of Freelance Graphics is available
only on CD-ROM.
B. Documentation
----------------
Your Freelance Graphics package should contain these documents,
coupons, and order forms:
* Exploring Freelance Graphics for OS/2
* Lotus Customer Support Guide
* Lotus Product Registration Card
* Lotus Software Agreements
* Order form for LotusScript Programmer's Guide for OS/2
and LotusScript Language Reference for OS/2
NOTE: Beta Test Sites for Freelance Graphics will receive Beta
Release Notes that contain Install instructions, directions to
On-Line Help covering new functions, and a list of known issues.
C. Hardware and Software Requirements
-------------------------------------
Freelance Graphics requires the following hardware and software:
* An 80486 or higher computer certified for use with OS/2 Warp 3.0
* A VGA or super VGA graphics card compatible with OS/2 Warp 3.0
* A mouse compatible with OS/2 Warp 3.0
* One CD-ROM drive, if your software was provided on CD-ROM
* One 1.44 MB 3.5" disk drive, if your software was provided on
disk
D. Memory
---------
Your computer should have a minimum of 16 MB of RAM available to
run the Beta release of Freelance Graphics.
E. Disk Space
-------------
The complete Freelance Graphics install requires a minimum of
66 MB of available hard disk space. If you choose a minimum install
of Freelance Graphics, you need 22 MB of available hard disk space.
You will need approximately 4 MB of free disk space for temporary
files created during the Install process. These files are
automatically deleted when installation is complete.
If your version of OS/2 Warp 3.0 has not yet been updated to the
required service level, you will also need at least an additional 10
MB for the OS/2 FixPack and IBM Developer API Extensions update
supplied with Freelance Graphics. (See "Verifying Your Version of
OS/2 Warp" below.)
----------------------------------------
2. BEFORE YOU INSTALL FREELANCE GRAPHICS
----------------------------------------
Before you install Freelance Graphics, you should close all Lotus
SmartSuite applications and shut down all anti-virus protection
programs. In addition, you must ensure that you have the correct
version of OS/2 Warp 3.0.
A. Verifying Your Version of OS/2 Warp
--------------------------------------
You must have OS/2 Warp 3.0 with the IBM Developer API Extensions and
FixPack 19 or a later release of Warp installed on your computer to
run Freelance Graphics.
For OS/2 Warp Version 3.0 Users ONLY:
-------------------------------------
If you do not already have FixPack [17F] or higher and IBM Developer
API Extensions installed, you need to apply the FixPack and IBM
Developer API Extensions provided with Freelance Graphics.
To verify your OS/2 Warp FixPack service level:
1. Open an OS/2 window.
2. Type VER /R and press Enter.
If the message you receive in response says: "The Operating System/2
Version is 3.00 Revision 8.241" or if the Revision number is higher
than 8.241, you already have the required FixPack level installed. If
the Revision number is less than 8.241, you must apply the IBM
FixPack provided with Freelance Graphics.
[NOTE: As of this writing, the FixPack level for the Beta build is 21
and the Revision number is 8.245.]
To verify that you have IBM Developer API Extensions installed:
1. Open an OS/2 window.
2. Change to the root directory of your boot drive (for example,
C:\).
3. Type DIR REGISTRY.* and press Enter
If you have a file named REGISTRY.DAT in the root directory of your
boot drive, the IBM Developer API Extensions are already installed.
If you see the message "SYS0002: The system cannot find the file
specified," you need to install the IBM Developer API Extensions
provided with Freelance Graphics.
[NOTE: FixPack currently cannot be installed from a network file server.
You must install it from the FixPack CD-ROM. This may change before
the Beta release]
B. If You Are a Network Administrator
-------------------------------------
If you are a network administrator, see the READNET.TXT file on your
CD-ROM (or on Disk #1 if you are installing from diskette).
READNET.TXT contains information about supported networks,
performing server and node installs, and other topics.
C. Server and Distribution Install
----------------------------------
Lotus recommends installing the Server and Distribution versions of
the product in new or empty directories.
D. New Default Directory Structure
----------------------------------
Freelance Graphics offers a new default directory structure. This
structure is designed to minimize the amount of space required for
Lotus products on your hard drive. The new structure also makes it
easier to maintain and upgrade your products, since your work,
backup, SmartMasters, samples, and other directories are independent
of your main product directory. We recommend that you install all
of your Lotus products under this directory structure.
NOTE: Do not install your Lotus OS/2 products in the same directory
as your Lotus Windows products.
This diagram illustrates the main points of the new directory
structure:
LOTUSOS2\ (Main Lotus product directory for all Lotus OS/2 products)
|
|
|---<main_prod_dir1>\ (Executables and other core
| files for one Lotus product)

E. Making Install Efficient
---------------------------
To maximize the efficiency of the Freelance Graphics Install program,
you should perform the following procedure to reclaim lost clusters
on your hard drive(s) before you run Install.
1. Open an OS/2 window.
2. Change to a drive other than the one(s) you wish to check.
3. Run CHKDSK with the /F switch on the drive(s) on which you will
be installing Freelance Graphics. For example, CHKDSK C: /F
4. If CHKDSK reports lost clusters, press N to reclaim them or Y to
convert them to files. (You do not have to convert the lost
clusters to files.)
F. Default Installation
-----------------------
The following features are NOT installed during a default
installation of Freelance Graphics:
* Foreign language spell-check dictionaries
* LotusScript Help files (script, chart script, and Freelance
Graphics script)
* Import filters: Micrografix DRW, DXF, HGL, GAL, GIF, PICT, RND,
TGA, and WPG
* Export filters: AI & EPS, MET, TGA, and WPG
* Sound files
* The Freelance Graphics Presentation and Review Library
* 65 GoldDisk movie files
* 35 clip art files (mostly maps)
* 72 SmartMaster looks
* 1 diagram
You can install all these features by selecting Custom when you
install Freelance Graphics. If Freelance Graphics is
already installed, you can run install, select Custom, and choose
only those features you did not previously install.
G. Saving Hard-Disk Space
-------------------------
If you have the CD-ROM version of Freelance Graphics, you can save up
to 19 MB of hard-disk space by accessing the SmartMaster looks,
content topics, clip art, palettes, and diagrams directly from your
CD-ROM. To do this:
1. Install Freelance Graphics, then delete all the SmartMaster
looks, content topics, palettes, clip art, and diagram files
in \LOTUSOS2\SMASTERS\FLG.
2. In Freelance Graphics, choose File - User Setup - Freelance
Preferences.
3. In the Freelance Graphics Preferences dialog box, click the
File Locations button.
4. In the File Locations dialog box, set the path under
"SmartMaster looks, palettes, & clip art" to \EXTRA\SMASTERS
on the CD-ROM.
5. Click OK to return to the Freelance Graphics Preferences dialog
box.
6. Click OK.
H. Multilingual Install
-----------------------
NOTE: Multiple languages are not available in the Beta build of
Freelance Graphics.
You can install single copies of Freelance Graphics in multiple
languages. This capability is part of the Lotus strategy for
multilingual computing.
If you installed a node version of Freelance Graphics, you can click
on the icon for the language you want to install next.
Additional language node installs can only be made to a single
copy of Freelance Graphics on the node. The first language you
install to a node becomes the default language. To add an additional
language version of a Lotus product, you must rerun the Install
program. The Install program informs you that you already
have a copy of the product in a different language and preserves
the directory structure of the default language.
The Install program creates icons for the additional languages of
Freelance Graphics in the Lotus SmartSuite folder. These icons can
be identified by the 2-character ISO language tag. For example, the
icon for the French version of Freelance Graphics is labeled
Freelance Graphics - FR.
Like node installs, additional language standard installs can only
be made to one copy of the product. They cannot be installed in
different places on the same machine.
------------------------------------
3. DURING FREELANCE GRAPHICS INSTALL
------------------------------------
A. Installing Freelance Graphics
-----------------------------------
Follow these instructions to begin installing Freelance Graphics:
1. Insert the CD-ROM or Disk 1 into the appropriate drive.
2. Open an OS/2 window.
3. Enter X:\INSTALL, where X: is your CD-ROM or floppy disk drive.
Install consists of a series of dialog boxes that are generally
self-explanatory. If you need more information when using a dialog
box, choose Help.
B. OS/2 Registry Errors
-----------------------
During an update or fresh installation, you may receive an
error message that indicates an error occurred while the Install
program was initializing the OS/2 registry.
During an installation, you may receive the following error
message, after which installation stops:
SSIE905: System error () detected. Installation
cancelled. Delete the files already transferred
when prompted. Refer to the README.TXT file for
additional information.
During an update, you may receive the following error message,
after which installation stops:
SSIE915: System error () detected. Update
cancelled. Delete the files already transferred
when prompted. Refer to the README.TXT file for
additional information.
Either of these messages indicate that an OS/2 registry error occurred.
The error number indicates more specifically what happened. Here is a
list of the numbers and their explanations:
2 - A registry key or value does not exist
5 - Registry access denied
6 - Invalid registry key handle
87 - Invalid registry parameter
234 - Data overflow. More registry data existed than can be read
122 - Buffer overflow. The registry data buffer is too small.
259 - Data missing. An attempt was made to access additional
registry data but failed
To attempt to recover, do the following:
1. Press Enter to clear the message box.
2. Select the Yes button when prompted by the installer message,
"EPFIQ125: You have cancelled during installation [update]. Your
current version of the product will not work properly. Would you
like to delete the files already transferred."
3. Exit the Install program.
4. Issue the following OS/2 command:
NAMEEXT dos\winos2\winreg -l *
NOTE: The parameter is an "ell" (l) not a "one" (1) followed by an asterisk.
If the OS/2 registry is properly initialized, the output from this command
should display a scrolling list of default OS/2 registry settings. If you
see several lines of text scroll when you issue the NAMEEXT command, your
OS/2 registry is probably okay.
If you issue the command and few or no registry settings are displayed,
consult the OS/2 online help or documentation for instructions on how to
rebuild your OS/2 registry. You can attempt the Lotus SmartSuite
installation again.
5. Consult your OS/2 documentation to be sure you have most recent version
of OS/2 Warp correctly installed. Correct any discrepancies and attempt
the Lotus SmartSuite installation again.
----------------
4. COMPATIBILITY
----------------
A. TeamMail
-----------
Using TeamMail with cc:Mail for OS/2
------------------------------------
If you have both Lotus cc:Mail Desktop 1.03 for OS/2 Workplace Shell
and Lotus Notes Release 3.x for OS/2 installed, TeamMail in Freelance
Graphics will default to using Notes as the mail system. If you wish
to use TeamMail with cc:Mail for OS/2, you must edit the WIN-OS2
WIN.INI file.
In the [LotusMail] section of WIN.INI, remove the following lines:
application=notes
Program=d:\notes\notes.exe NoDialogs
(where d:\notes\notes.exe is the location of your OS/2 NOTES.EXE
file)
Using TeamMail with Notes Release 3.x for OS/2
----------------------------------------------
If you wish to use TeamMail for OS/2 with Notes Release 3.x for OS/2
and you have also installed the Windows version of Notes Release 3.x
in WIN-OS2, you must check, and may need to change, the WIN-OS2
WIN.INI file.
1. In the [LotusMail] section of WIN.INI, look for the following
line:
Program=d:\notes\notes.exe NoDialogs
2. If necessary, edit this line so that d:\notes\notes.exe refers
to the location of your OS/2 NOTES.EXE file, rather than to your
Windows NOTES.EXE file.
Using TeamMail for OS/2 with cc:Mail for Windows or Notes for Windows
---------------------------------------------------------------------
TeamMail for OS/2 will not work with cc:Mail for Windows or Notes for
Windows.
B. ATI Mach 64 Video Driver
---------------------------
The video driver delivered with OS/2 Warp for the ATI Mach 64 card
has display problems in Freelance Graphics. A newer version of the
driver fixes the problems.
You can download the newer version from ATI's web site:
http://www.atitech.ca/drivers/drivers.html
When you run DSPINSTL, the newer version shows up in the list as:
ATI Mach64 (Enhanced V2.00)
C. Printing on an HP LaserJet 4
-------------------------------
When you install a driver for an HP LaserJet 4 series printer, the
default graphics mode is Vector. If you have problems with your
Freelance Graphics output, try changing the graphics mode to Raster.
5. LOTUSSCRIPT RELEASE NOTES
----------------------------
For detailed information on the LotusScript 3.0 language and
programming environment, see the following documentation:
* LotusScript IDE Help
* LotusScript Language Help
* LotusScript Programmer's Guide
A. Integrated Development Environment (IDE)
-------------------------------------------
Whenever you make substantial changes to your script in the IDE, such
as adding many lines of code or correcting errors, be sure to press
F2 to recompile the script; this ensures that you are seeing the most
recent set of error messages.
When writing scripts in the IDE, you may encounter the following
limitations:
* The Inspector doesn't display properties for native classes.
* While debugging a script, you cannot step into a class
destructor, an %INCLUDEd file, or a USEd module.
* The Undo command is disabled when you navigate to another
section of your script.
* When you import a procedure, comments appearing before that
procedure are moved to the declarations section. To ensure that
the comments remain with the procedure, relocate them within the
procedure's definition.
* If you change a class to a property, the associated methods become
procedures belonging to the property.
B. LotusScript Language
-----------------------
You may encounter the following limitations while programming in the
LotusScript language:
* If a run-time error occurs within a class constructor's
parameter expression, the class constructor halts execution.
After the error occurs, the object is deleted, and LotusScript
will attempt to execute the class destructor. This may cause
another run-time error if the destructor relied on the action
of the constructor.
* Circular structures are not properly destroyed by LotusScript,
and that memory is not released until you end the session.
* Errors occurring within a class destructor must be handled
within that procedure; error-handling routines outside of the
destructor cannot trap errors occurring within the destructor.
C. REXX Integration
-------------------
Freelance Graphics' LotusScript programming language includes
support for REXX, to enable more powerful application development
on the OS/2 platform.
--------------------
6. SMARTMASTER LOOKS
--------------------
The following section contains the following information:
* Multimedia SmartMaster looks
* Switching to multimedia SmartMaster looks
* SmartMaster look color palette
A. Multimedia SmartMaster Looks
-------------------------------
Freelance Graphics ships with several SmartMaster looks that contain
multimedia effects. Some of these effects are screen show actions
attached to the design objects and "Click here..." blocks. A few
also include animations. These SmartMaster looks start with the
letters "mm". You can create your own multimedia SmartMaster looks
by selecting an object or "Click here..." block and applying a
screen show action.
For more information, see the online help topic "Attaching an action
to objects and text."
B. Switching to Multimedia SmartMaster Looks
--------------------------------------------
If you switch from a standard SmartMaster look to a multimedia
SmartMaster look (those with "mm" as a prefix), or change from one
multimedia SmartMaster look to a different multimedia SmartMaster
look, the new multimedia SmartMaster look may overwrite some or all
of the existing multimedia effects. This includes transitions,
"triggers," and any "actions" (such as running an application, sound,
or going to another page).
C. SmartMaster Look Color Palette
---------------------------------
The color palette structure has changed in Freelance Graphics to
give you greater control over default colors of objects on the page.
If you plan to create or edit SmartMaster looks, you can receive two
tables that give specific information about the function of each
palette slot. The tables also show how the Freelance Graphics 2.1
palettes map to the Freelance Graphics 96 Edition palettes.
[[Still true?]]
To receive the tables ask for documents 134219 and 134208
from the Fax-On-Demand Services number. In the U.S., call
1-800-346-3508. In Canada, call 1-800-565-5331.
--------------------
7. ANIMATED CLIP ART
--------------------
Freelance Graphics ships with animated clip art that can be added to
the page by selecting "Add Movie" from the Create menu. All
animations initally appear in the lower left corner, but you can move
them anywhere on the page.
