OSOTPRFI - GATHERING SYSTEM-PERFORMANCE INFORMATION IN OS/2 WARP
03/06/96
=======================================================================
Gathering System-Performance Information in OS/2 Warp
=======================================================================
Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedure
-------------------------------------------------------------
DESCRIPTION
This document describes how to gather system-performance information.
RESOLUTION
Gathering Process and Thread information
----------------------------------------
1. At a command prompt, type MD C:\PD_DATA and press Enter to create a
new directory.
2. Type PSTAT > C:\PD_DATA\PSTAT.TXT and press Enter.
Gathering Hardware and System Configuration Information
-------------------------------------------------------
1. Open OS/2 System.
2. Open System Setup.
3. Select System Information Tool. (If the System Information Tool is
not in the System Setup folder, install it from the BonusPak.)
4. Select File from the main menu.
5. Select Print All System Data to a File. Use the file name
C:\PD_DATA\SYSINFO.RPT.
6. Select OK.
Gathering Information about DOS and Windows Programs
----------------------------------------------------
1. From a DOS or WIN-OS/2 session, open the Settings notebook for the
program.
2. Select the Session tab.
3. Select the DOS or WIN-OS/2 Settings button.
4. Select All Settings; then select OK.
5. Select Print.
6. Select Print to encoded file; use the file name, C:\PD_DATA\name.DST.
(name can be any valid file name. Use a different name for each DOS
session.)
7. Select OK to print the file.
Collecting Any Other Relevant Information
-----------------------------------------
If possible, create a README.1ST text file describing any special
circumstances and steps for re-creating the problem. Include symptoms
or issues that might be related. For example, a hard disk is constantly
being used, a problem occurs after loading a particular application, a
problem occurred after upgrading hardware, a problem occurred after
changing to high-resolution video mode, and so on.
You can send the information to IBM two ways:
1. Use PKZIP to compress all files in the \PD_DATA directory into one
file. Name the file PMR#.ZIP.
Note: You can use other compression programs, but the compressed
file MUST be self-extracting. If you do not have PKZIP, you
can download it from the IBM PC BBS at 919-517-0001. The
name is PKZ204G.EXE.
Ask your support representative for the phone number and file
section number of the "SDM BBS" so that you can upload this
information to that bulletin board, or you can upload the
information to IBM via the Internet as follows:
a. Issue ftp://testcase.boulder.ibm.com.
b. Enter anonymous as your user ID.
c. Enter your e-mail address as your password.
d. Use your problem record number as the file name and place the
file in the /ps/toibm/os2 directory.
e. Notify your support representative when complete.
2. Copy the files in the \PD_DATA directory to diskette. Mail the
diskette to:
IBM Corp.
11400 Burnet Road
Austin, TX 78758
Internal Zip 2901
ATTN: (Support representative's name) / (problem number)
