  11. DESCRIPTION
  12.  
  13. This document contains information for OS/2 2.1 and OS/2 2.11 users who
  14. are installing the OS/2 Warp Upgrade Edition.
  15.  
  16. RESOLUTION
  17.  
  18. For these procedures, you need your OS/2 2.1 or  OS/2 2.11 diskettes. 
  19. If you do not have these diskettes, you need to create Utility Diskette 
  20. 1 before continuing.
  21.  
  22. Note: Make sure you have a backup copy of any file you intend to change.
  23.  
  24. Creating Utility Diskette 1
  25. ---------------------------
  26.  
  27. 1. Use DISKCOPY to copy OS/2 Warp Diskette 1 to a 1.44 MB diskette.
  28.    The 1.44 MB diskette is now Utility Diskette 1.
  29.  
  30. 2. Delete the file, BUNDLE, from Utility Diskette 1.
  31.  
  32. 3. Copy UHPFS.DLL and FORMAT.COM from OS/2 Warp Diskette 2 to Utility
  33.    Diskette 1.
  34.  
  35.    Note: If you are installing OS/2 from a CD, copy UHPFS.DLL
  36.          and FORMAT.COM from the \OS2IMAGE\DISK_2 directory on
  37.          the CD to Utility Diskette 1.
  38.  
  39.    If Utility Diskette 1 does not have enough space for these files,
  40.    delete DEL.LST and SIPANEL1.DLL from the diskette.
  41.  
  42.    If you still need more space on Utility Diskette 1, delete the
  43.    following files:
  44.  
  45.       AHA*.ADD
  46.       SONY*.ADD
  47.       MI*.ADD
  48.       LMS*.ADD
  49.       AIC*.ADD
  50.       FD*.ADD
  51.  
  52. 4. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file on Utility Diskette 1, as follows:
  53.  
  54.    If Installing OS/2 from diskettes:
  55.    ----------------------------------
  56.    Change: SET OS2_SHELL=SYSINST2.EXE
  57.    To:     SET OS2_SHELL=CMD.EXE
  58.  
  59.    If Installing OS/2 from a CD:
  60.    -----------------------------
  61.    Change: SET OS2_SHELL=SYSINST2.EXE
  62.    To:     SET OS2_SHELL=CMD.EXE
  63.  
  64.    Delete: SET OS2_SHELL=CDINST.EXE
  65.  
  66.    If you are installing OS/2 from a CD and have deleted the AHA*.ADD,
  67.    SONY*.ADD, MI*.ADD, AIC*.ADD, FD*.ADD, and LMS*.ADD files, remove
  68.    the corresponding BASEDEV=AHA*, SONY*, MI*, AIC*, FD*, and LMS*.ADD
  69.    statements from the CONFIG.SYS file on Utility Diskette 1.

  72. Repartitioning the Hard Disk before Installing OS/2 Warp Upgrade Edition 
  73. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
  74.  
  75. To repartition your hard disk before installing OS/2 Warp Upgrade 
  76. Edition:
  77.  
  78. 1. Insert the OS/2 2.1, OS/2 2.11, or OS/2 Warp Installation Diskette in
  79.    drive A.
  80.  
  81. 2. Turn on the computer, or press Ctrl+Alt+Del if it is already on.
  82.  
  83. 3. When prompted, remove the Installation Diskette and insert the OS/2
  84.    2.1 or OS/2 2.11 Diskette 1, or Utility Diskette 1, and press Enter.
  85.  
  86.    Note: If you use Utility Diskette 1, go to step 5.
  87.  
  88. 4. At the Installation Drive Selection screen, press F3 to go to a
  89.    command prompt.
  90.  
  91. 5. At the command prompt, type A:\FDISK and follow the instructions on
  92.    the FDISK screen to repartition the drive.
  93.  
  94. After you repartition the drive, you must format it.
  95.  
  96. Note: If you want to format for HPFS, you must use OS/2.

  99. Formatting the Drive Using  OS/2
  100. --------------------------------
  101.  
  102. Note: You need Utility Diskette 1 for this procedure.
  103.  
  104. 1. Insert the OS/2 Warp Installation Diskette in drive A and restart
  105.    the system.
  106.  
  107. 2. When prompted, insert the new Utility Diskette 1 in drive A and
  108.    follow the instructions on the screen.
  109.  
  110.    Note: Do NOT use the original diskette
  111.  
  112. 3. When you reach the command prompt, use the appropriate command for
  113.    the file system you want to use:
  114.  
  115.    * For FAT, type FORMAT x: /FS:FAT and press Enter.
  116.    * For HPFS, type FORMAT x: /FS:HPFS and press Enter.
  117.  
  118.    where x is the drive you want to format.
  119.  
  120. 4. After formatting the drive, go to "Reinstalling OS/2 Warp" to build
  121.    the required subdirectories and continue with the OS/2 Warp
  122.    installation.

  125. Formatting the Drive Using DOS
  126. ------------------------------

  128. If you have a startable DOS diskette, you can start the system and 
  129. format the target partition with FAT.
  130.  
  131. After formatting the drive, go to "Reinstalling OS/2 Warp" to build the 
  132. required subdirectories and continue with the OS/2 Warp installation.

  135. Reinstalling  OS/2 Warp
  136. -----------------------
  137.  
  138. If you repartitioned and formatted the hard disk before installing OS/2 
  139. Warp Upgrade Edition and the installation stopped with a red screen and 
  140. a message, or if you were reinstalling OS/2 Warp Upgrade Edition and the
  141. installation stopped with a red screen and the following message:
  142.  
  143.    A specific version of the OS/2 operating
  144.    system must be present on the hard disk.
  145.  
  146. You must create an \OS2\INSTALL directory in the partition where you 
  147. want to install OS/2 Warp, and reinstall OS/2 Warp.
  148.  
  149. Note: You need Utility Diskette 1 for this procedure.
  150.  
  151. If you have the 2.1 or 2.11 Installation Diskette, or the OS/2 Warp 
  152. Installation Diskette and Utility Diskette 1, do the following:
  153.  
  154.  1. Insert the OS/2 2.1, OS/2 2.11, or OS/2 Warp Installation Diskette
  155.     in drive A.
  156.  
  157.  2. Turn on the computer, or press Ctrl+Alt+Del if it is already on.
  158.     
  159.  3. When prompted, remove the Installation Diskette and insert the OS/2
  160.     2.1, or OS/2 2.11 Diskette 1, or Utility Diskette 1 in drive A and
  161.     press Enter.
  162.  
  163.     Note: If you use Utility Diskette 1, go to step 5.
  164.  
  165.  4. At the Installation Drive Selection screen, press F3 to go
  166.     to a command prompt.
  167.  
  168.  5. At the command prompt, type x: and press Enter (x is the
  169.     drive letter of the drive where you want to install OS/2
  170.     Warp).
  171.  
  172.  6. To create the \OS2\INSTALL directory, type MD OS2\ and
  173.     press Enter.
  174.  
  175.  7. Type MD OS2\INSTALL and press Enter.
  176.  
  177.  8. Type COPY A:\SYSLEVEL.OS2 x:\OS2\INSTALL and press Enter.
  178.  
  179.  9. Remove the diskette from drive A and insert the OS/2 Warp
  180.     Installation Diskette.
  181.  
  182. 10. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system.
  183.  
  184. Proceed with OS/2 Warp installation.
  185.
