  11. DESCRIPTION
  12.  
  13. This document shows how an existing primary partition that takes up the 
  14. entire hard disk space is replaced by:
  15.  
  16. * A 45 MB primary partition in which OS/2 will be installed
  17. * A 35 MB logical drive that is used for programs and data
  18.  
  19. This example does NOT involve installation of Boot Manager.
  20.  
  21. RESOLUTION
  22.  
  23. Note: Be sure to make a copy of any file you intend to change.
  24.  
  25.  1. Back up any data you want to save from an existing partition. (Use
  26.     the BACKUP command from your existing operating system.)
  27.  
  28.  2. Insert the Installation Diskette and restart your system. Follow
  29.     instructions on the screen until the Installation Drive Selection
  30.     screen appears.
  31.  
  32.  3. Select option 2, Specify a different drive or partition to start
  33.     the FDISK program.
  34.  
  35.  4. Delete the existing partition (which you have backed up):
  36.  
  37.     a. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  38.     b. Select Delete Partition and press Enter.
  39.  
  40.  5. Create the primary partition for OS/2 2.1:
  41.  
  42.     a. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  43.     b. Select Create Partition and press Enter.
  44.     c. Type the size of the primary partition (here, 45) and press
  45.        Enter.
  46.     d. Select Primary Partition and press Enter.
  47.     e. Select Create at Start of Free Space and press Enter.

  49.  6. Indicate that this partition should be used for OS/2 2.1
  50.     installation:
  51.  
  52.     a. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  53.     b. Select Set Installable and press Enter.
  54.  
  55.  7. Create the logical drive for data:
  56.  
  57.     a. Highlight the Free Space line.
  58.     b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  59.     c. Select Create Partition and press Enter.
  60.     d. Press Enter to accept the size of the extended logical drive
  61.        (35).
  62.     e. Select Extended Logical Drive and press Enter.
  63.  
  64.     Note: If you entered a number less than 35 for the size of the
  65.           logical drive, you also have to select Create At Start of
  66.           Free Space or Create at End of Free Space.

  68.  8. Exit FDISK:
  69.  
  70.     a. Press F3.
  71.     b. Select Save and Exit and press Enter.
  72.  
  73.  9. Continue with OS/2 installation until you see the OS/2 Setup and
  74.     Installation window.
  75.  
  76. 10. Format the logical drive:
  77.  
  78.     a. When the OS/2 Setup and Installation window appears, select
  79.        Features and Install.
  80.  
  81.     b. Specify any changes to the System Configuration window.
  82.  
  83.     c. When the second OS/2 Setup and Installation window appears,
  84.        select Options from the menu bar.
  85.  
  86.     d. Select Format.
  87.  
  88.     e. Indicate which file system you want to use to format the logical
  89.        drive.
  90.  
  91.        Note: If possible, format the logical drive for a file system
  92.              that is different from the one that you formatted for the
  93.              primary partition. For example, if the primary partition
  94.              is formatted for the high performance file system (HPFS),
  95.              you can format the logical partition for the file
  96.              allocation table (FAT) file system. This way, you can have
  97.              both file systems installed on the hard disk.

  99. 11. Finish the installation of OS/2 2.1.
