  9. DESCRIPTION

  12. A trap000d at IBM1S506$ or a lock up occurs loading IBMIDECD.FLT or 
  13. IBM1S506.ADD during startup of OS/2 Warp 4. 
  14.  
  15. RESOLUTION
  16.  
  17. Use either of the following workarounds:
  18.  
  19. Modify the BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD statement in CONFIG.SYS:
  20.  
  21.   1. Restart the system, pressing Alt-F1 when the small white rectangle 
  22.      appears in the upper left corner of the screen.
  23.  
  24.   2. Press F2 to go to command line.
  25.  
  26.   3. Type TEDIT CONFIG.SYS, then press Enter.
  27.  
  28.   4. Press Esc.
  29.  
  30.   5. Change BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD to BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD /a:0 /bm.
  31.  
  32.   6. Save and exit the file, then restart the system.

  34. Replace the driver causing the problem with the corresponding 
  35. OS/2 Warp 3 driver:
  36.  
  37. Note: If you do not have OS/2 Warp 3, download WARPINST.EXE from the 
  38.       IBM PC Company BBS at 919-517-0001, or from the following web 
  39.       site:
  40.       http://www.pc.ibm.com.
  41.  
  42.       Copy the WARPINST.EXE file into a temporary directory. Change to 
  43.        that temporary directory and type WARPINST, then press Enter 
  44.        to extract the files.  
  45.  
  46. 1. If the system stops with no error message, identify the driver 
  47.    causing the problem as follows:
  48.  
  49.    Restart the system, pressing Alt-F2 when the small white rectangle
  50.    appears in the upper left hand corner of the screen. This causes the
  51.    drivers being loaded to display on screen. The driver remaining on
  52.    screen when the lock up occurs is the problem driver.

  54. 2. Restart the system, with the OS/2 Warp 4 Installation Diskette in
  55.    drive A:. Insert Diskettes 1 and 2 when prompted. Press F3 at the
  56.    Welcome screen to escape to a command prompt.
  57.  
  58. 3. Make a backup copy of the problem driver. For example, type: 
  59.  
  60.    COPY C:\OS2\BOOT\IBM1S506.ADD C:\OS2\BOOT\IBM1S506.BAK, 
  61.    then press Enter (where C: is the OS/2 installation drive).
  62.  
  63. 4. Copy the older version of the problem driver to the \OS2\BOOT 
  64.    directory. For example, type:
  65.  
  66.    COPY X:\TEMP\IBM1S506.ADD  C:\OS2\BOOT\IBM1S506.ADD then press Enter
  67.    (where X:\TEMP is the path to the older version of the driver files).

  69. 5. Remove any diskettes, then restart the system.
  70.  
  71. Note: Replacing the driver on Diskette 1, along with adding the 
  72.       correct parameters to the device driver statement in the 
  73.       CONFIG.SYS file on Diskette 1, will allow the installation to get 
  74.       past the error. If this procedure is followed, 
  75.       SET COPYFROMFLOPPY=1
  76.       must also added to the bottom of the CONFIG.SYS file on 
  77.       Diskette 1.
