  1. OSDIFLSH - FLASH CARDS WILL NOT WORK WITH THINKPAD 355 AND 360 SYSTEMS

  4. Flash Cards Will Not Work with ThinkPad 355 and 360 Systems
  5. =======================================================================
  6. Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures

  8. DESCRIPTION
  9.  
  10. The IBM 2 MB PCMCIA Memory Flash cards fail on ThinkPad 355 and 
  11. 360 systems.
  12.  
  13. The error most commonly seen is:  
  14.  
  15. SYS0039: Device not ready error
  16.  
  17. EXPLANATION: One of the following has occurred:
  18.  
  19. 1. The device is not ready or is empty.
  20.  
  21. 2. The device driver for COMn is not installed or COMn was
  22.    shut down and further use of it is disabled.
  23.  
  24. ACTION: Do one of the following and retry the command:
  25.  
  26. 1. Insert a diskette in the drive and close the drive door or
  27.    wait until the drive is available.
  28.  
  29. 2. a. Check the CONFIG.SYS file for the DEVICE=COM.SYS statement.
  30.  
  31.    b. Shut down the system. During restart, note and refer to
  32.       any messages regarding COMn.
  33.  
  34.    c. Issue MODE COMn from a command prompt to see if COMn exists.
  35.  
  36. 3. Be sure there is hardware for COMn.
  37.  
  38. This error seems to occur while copying files to the card. None of the 
  39. ACTION suggestions mentioned above will remedy the problem.
  40.  
  41. RESOLUTION
  42.  
  43. After this error is received, the card becomes unusable and must be 
  44. formatted by using FFORMAT2.
  45.  
  46. At this time, there is no fix available to allow these cards to be used 
  47. on these ThinkPad systems. 
  48.  
  49. This error has only been seen with the IBM 2 MB PCMCIA Memory Flash 
  50. cards.
