  11. DESCRIPTION
  12.  
  13. This document contains information about system requirements and 
  14. installation, and SCSI and non-SCSI device-driver parameters. For 
  15. information about IDE CD-ROM support, and a list of compatible device 
  16. drivers, see technical documents:

  23. Notes:
  24.  
  25. * You need 5 MB of hard disk space to install Multimedia.
  26.  
  27. * For Non-IBM Systems: It is suggested that you disable turbo, cache,
  28.   and shadow RAM. (Not required for Packard Bell systems.)
  29.  
  30. * For All Systems: Set video to VGA, 640x480, 8-bit slot or mode, if
  31.   possible. Disable autosensing, if possible. Disconnect modem, tape
  32.   backup, network card, scanners, and other devices and features during
  33.   installation. After installation, enable and connect all features and
  34.   devices.
  35.  
  36. If you are using non-IBM device drivers for the CD-ROM, and a device 
  37. driver does not exist on Diskette 1, the device driver might not be 
  38. copied to the hard disk after the installation is complete. Do a 
  39. DISKCOPY of Diskette 1; then edit the CONFIG.SYS file and add this 
  40. statement:
  41.  
  42.   COPYFROMFLOPPY=1
  43.  
  44. The Installation program will now copy files from Diskette 1 as if the 
  45. diskette were in the drive and you were installing from a drive other 
  46. than A.
  47.  
  48. The CONFIG.SYS file has the following statements for CD-ROM:
  49.  
  50.    DEVICE=x:\OS2\BOOT\OS2CDROM.DMD /Q
  51.    IFS=x:\OS2\BOOT\CDFS.IFS /Q
  52.    BASEDEV=<device_driver_name> /P:xxx
  53.  
  54. where x is the drive where OS/2 is installed; xxx are the CD-ROM 
  55. parameters; /Q is quiet mode (error messages are not displayed); /V is 
  56. view mode (error messages are displayed).
  57.  
  58. If the files specified in the statements are not present, you can 
  59. manually add them. They are on Diskette 2 in the bundled files, 
  60. CDROMREQ and CDROMFLT.
  61.  
  62. If the device driver is not listed or you need assistance, contact the 
  63. vendor for an OS/2 driver.
  64.  
  65. CD-ROM device drivers are constantly updated. If you are installing 
  66. OS/2 Warp and the CD-ROM driver that came with OS/2 Warp is not 
  67. recognized, download the latest drivers from the IBM PCC BBS at 
  68. 919-517-0001. The file you need is CDDRVR.ZIP and contains the 
  69. following drivers:

  73.    MITFX        16359    11-06-94
  74.    SBCD2        15227    11-06-94

  77. Note: If you cannot connect to the BBS, contact your local IBM branch 
  78.       office.

  80. Philips LMS CM205 and CM225 are on the Installation Diskette. For 
  81. CD-ROM installation, you must add the driver to Diskette 1 and the 
  82. CONFIG.SYS file:
  83.  
  84. 1. DISKCOPY Diskette 1.
  85.  
  86. 2. Insert the COPY of Diskette 1 in the diskette drive.
  87.  
  88. 3. Type DEL LMS206.ADD and press Enter.
  89.  
  90. 4. Copy the file, LM205.ADD, from the Installation Diskette to the copy
  91.    of Diskette 1.
  92.  
  93. 5. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file on the copy of Diskette 1:
  94.  
  95.       Change: BASEDEV=LMS206.ADD
  96.       To:     REM BASEDEV=LMS206.ADD
  97.       Add:    BASEDEV=LMS205.ADD
  98.  
  99. 6. Restart the installation.
  100.  
  101. 7. When prompted, insert the modified Diskette 1.
  102.  
  103.    Note: If you're adding a device driver to Diskette 1 and the
  104.          diskette does not have enough space, you can delete the
  105.          following files from the COPY of Diskette 1:
  106.  
  107.          For a non-Micro Channel system:  Files IBM2.*
  108.          For a Micro Channel system:      Files IBM1.*
  109.  
  110. Non-SCSI CD-ROM Device-Driver Parameters
  111. ----------------------------------------
  112. Refer to the User's Guide to OS/2 Warp for information about CD-ROM 
  113. parameters and CD-ROM problems.

  115. Mitsumi 
  116. -------
  117. The device-driver parameters for the following CD-ROM drives are in 
  118. MITFX001.ADD:
  119.  
  120.    Mitsumi CRMC-FX001D
  121.    Mitsumi CRMC-FX001
  122.    Mitsumi CRMC-LU005S
  123.    Mitsumi CRMC-LU002S
  124.    BSR 6800

  127. Parameter Definitions
  128.  
  129. /P:nnn  Specifies the base I/O port address of the interface card. This
  130.         must be same number specified on the interface card.
  131.  
  132.  /I:nn  Specifies the interrupt request (IRQ) channel number. This must
  133.         match the IRQ value selected on the host interface card. If
  134.         this parameter is not specified, the device driver uses
  135.         software polling transfer.
  136.  
  137.  /V     Verbose. The device-driver revision level and CD-ROM 
  138.          product-identification information is displayed when 
  139.          you start the system.

  143. 1. Mitsumi CD-ROM drive attached to Mitsumi host adapter:
  144.  
  145.    If the Mitsumi host adapter is set to a base I/O port address of 320,
  146.    the BASEDEV statement in the CONFIG.SYS file is:

  148.       BASEDEV=MITFX001.ADD  /P:320
  149.  
  150. 2. Mitsumi CD-ROM drive attached to Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16
  151.    MultiCD.
  152.  
  153.    If the Mitsumi CD-ROM port on the Sound Blaster 16 MultiCD is set to
  154.    an I/O port address of 320, the CONFIG.SYS statement is:

  156.       BASEDEV=MITFX001.ADD  /P:320

  158. 3. To enable interrupt-transfer mode, which improves performance, the
  159.    /I parameter must be specified. For example, to enable
  160.    interrupt-transfer mode for IRQ channel 10 at an I/O port address of
  161.    320h, the CONFIG.SYS statement is:

  163.       BASEDEV=MITFX001.ADD  /P:320 /I:10

  165. Sony 
  166. ----
  167. The device-driver parameters for the following CD-ROM drives are in 
  168. SONY31A.ADD:

  175. Parameter Definitions
  176.  
  177. /A:n    Identifies a specific adapter, n. The adapter is specified as a
  178.         single-digit value which is zero based (that is, the first
  179.         adapter is specified as /A:0).
  180.  
  181. /AT:dd  Sets the adapter type connected to the CD-ROM drive. Supported
  182.         values are:
  183.  
  184.            00 = Sony CDB-334 (default)
  185.            08 = Media Vision Pro AudioSpectrum-16
  186.  
  187. /P:nnnn Specifies the base I/O port address of the interface card. This
  188.         must be the same number specified on the interface card.
  189.  
  190.          If this parameter is not specified, the default port address
  191.          for the host adapter is used. For the Sony CDB-334 host
  192.          adapter, the default is 0340. For the Media Vision Pro
  193.          AudioSpectrum 16 card, the default is 1F88.
  194.  
  195.  /I:nn  Specifies the interrupt request (IRQ) channel number. This must
  196.         match the IRQ value selected on the host interface card. If
  197.         this parameter is not specified, the device driver uses
  198.         software polling transfer.
  199.  
  200.         Note: Some Sony host adapters were shipped without the plastic
  201.               jumper switch on the IRQ jumper block that allows you to
  202.               select the IRQ channel. You must obtain and install this
  203.               jumper switch to enable the IRQ channel.
  204.  
  205. /V      Verbose. The device-driver revision level and CD-ROM 
  206.         product-identification information is displayed when you start
  207.         the system.

  209. Parameter Examples

  211. 1. Sony CDU-31A CD-ROM drive attached to Sony CDB-334 host adapter:
  212.  
  213.    The Sony CDB-334 host adapter supports base I/O port addresses of
  214.    320h, 330h, 340h, and 360h. If the CDB-334 host adapter is set to
  215.    any port address other than the default of 340h, the CONFIG.SYS
  216.    statement must be modified. For example, if the Sony CDB-334 host
  217.    adapter is set to a base I/O port address of 360, the BASEDEV
  218.    statement in the CONFIG.SYS file is:
  219.  
  220.       BASEDEV=SONY31A.ADD /A:0 /P:0360
  221.  
  222. 2. Sony CDU-31A CD-ROM drive attached to Media Vision Pro AudioSpectrum
  223.    16 host adapter: The CONFIG.SYS statement is:

  227. 3. Sony CDU-31A CD-ROM drive attached to the Creative Labs Sound
  228.    Blaster Pro, Sound Blaster 16, or Sound Blaster 16 MultiCD host

  231.    The port address specified in the CONFIG.SYS BASEDEV statement
  232.    should be 10h above the base I/O port address specified on the
  233.    adapter. For example, if the Sound Blaster card is set for a 
  234.    base I/O port address of 220h, the CONFIG.SYS statement is:

  254. Parameter Definitions
  255.  
  256. /P:nnn Specifies the base I/O port address of the interface card. This
  257.        must be the same number specified on the interface card.
  258.  
  259. /T:x   Sets the adapter type connected to the CD-ROM drive. The
  260.        supported value is:
  261.  
  262.        2 = Creative Labs CD-ROM interface card (not Sound Blaster)
  263.  
  264. Parameter Examples
  265.  
  266. 1. Panasonic, Creative Labs OmniCD or IBM ISA CD-ROM drive attached to
  267.    standard Panasonic or IBM ISA CD-ROM host adapter:
  268.  
  269.    The standard Panasonic or IBM ISA host adapter supports base I/O
  270.    port addresses of 300h, 310h, 320h, or 330h. For example, if the
  271.    adapter is set to a base I/O port address of 300, the BASEDEV
  272.    statement in the CONFIG.SYS file is:
  273.  
  274.       BASEDEV=SBCD2.ADD /P:300
  275.  
  276. 2. Panasonic, Creative Labs OmniCD, or IBM ISA CD-ROM drive attached to
  277.    Creative Labs Sound Blaster Pro, Sound Blaster 16, or Sound Blaster
  278.    16 MultiCD. For example, if the Sound Blaster card is set for a base
  279.    I/O address of 220h, the CONFIG.SYS statement is:

  281.       BASEDEV=SBCD2.ADD /P:220
  282.  
  283. 3. Creative Labs OmniCD attached to standard Creative Labs CD-ROM host
  284.    adapter (not Sound Blaster):
  285.  
  286.    The standard Creative Labs host adapter supports base I/O port
  287.    addresses of 250h or 260h. For example, if the adapter is set to a
  288.    base I/O port address of 250, the CONFIG.SYS statement is:
  289.  
  290.       BASEDEV=SBCD2.ADD /P:250 /T:2
  291.  
  292. If Your CD-ROM Drive Is Not Explicitly Mentioned Above
  293. ------------------------------------------------------
  294. When installing OS/2 Warp from a CD-ROM drive not mentioned above, use 
  295. the following instructions to enable the drive to operate with OS/2 
  296. Warp. If unsuccessful, please contact the drive vendor.
  297.  
  298. 1. Make diskette images from the CD-ROM, using DOS. You need formatted
  299.    diskettes to copy the images for the Installation program, printer
  300.    drivers, display drivers, and other options, such as Multimedia and
  301.    the BonusPak.
  302.  
  303. 2. Disconnect the CD-ROM drive.
  304.  
  305. 3. Install OS/2 Warp from the diskettes.
  306.  
  307. 4. Copy device drivers (files with the .ADD extension) to the \OS2\BOOT
  308.    subdirectory (CD-ROM/sound card or adapter).
  309.  
  310. 5. Connect the CD-ROM drive and plug in the sound card and the
  311.    controller/adapter.
  312.  
  313. 6. Do a Selective Install for CD-ROM:
  314.  
  315.    a. Select OS/2 System.
  316.    b. Select System Setup.
  317.    c. Select Selective Install.
  318.  
  319.    This process modifies the CONFIG.SYS file. Statements that should
  320.    appear are:
  321.  
  322.       DEVICE=x:\OS2\BOOT\OS2CDROM.DMD /Q
  323.       IFS=x:\OS2\BOOT\CDFS.IFS /Q
  324.       BASEDEV=<device_driver_name>
  325.  
  326.    where x is the drive where OS/2 is installed.
  327.  
  328. All device drivers must be compatible with OS/2 Warp to run. If this 
  329. procedure does not work, contact the vendor of the CD-ROM drive for the 
  330. appropriate drivers.
