  11. DESCRIPTION
  12.  
  13. When installing OS/2 Warp, the following message is received:
  14.  
  15.    Not Enough Space to Install.
  16.  
  17. RESOLUTION
  18.  
  19. * Check for DOS doublespace or disk management on the hard drive.
  20.  
  21. * Check if the hard disk is greater than 528 MB (more than 1024
  22.   cylinders).

  25. Checking for DOS Doublespace or Disk Management
  26. -----------------------------------------------
  27.   DOS Doublespace
  28.   ---------------
  29.   Doublespace compresses the hard disk to double the amount of available
  30.   space. To determine if Doublespace is on the hard disk, type DIR /AH
  31.   and press Enter at a DOS prompt. If the file DBLSPACE.BIN is listed,
  32.   the disk is doublespaced.

  34.   Disk Management
  35.   ---------------
  36.   Disk Management, often referred to as "On Track," writes to the
  37.   startup sector of the drive. It translates the geometry of the drive's
  38.   partition table to allow DOS to see the entire drive.
  39.  
  40.     First Drive
  41.     -----------
  42.     If the message, "Dynamic Drive Overlay loading" appears when you
  43.     start the system, disk  management is on the hard disk. You also
  44.     could type FDISK and press Enter at a DOS prompt. It the return
  45.     is "Non DOS partition," disk management is on the hard disk.

  47.     Second Drive
  48.     ------------
  49.     If the file, DMDRVR.BIN is specified in the CONFIG.SYS file, disk
  50.     management is on the secondary drive.
  51.  
  52. Note: OS/2 Warp 3.0 cannot be installed on the same drive with
  53.       Doublespace or Disk Management. If Stacker Version 4.0 is being
  54.       used, contact Stacker.

  57. Hard Disk Greater than 528 MB
  58. -----------------------------
  59. If you have an Enhanced IDE hard disk with a capacity greater than 528 
  60. MB (more than 1024 cylinders), note the following:
  61.  
  62. * The file allocation table (FAT) file system is limited to partition
  63.   sizes of fewer than 1024 cylinders.
  64.  
  65. * The high performance file system (HPFS) can support data partitions
  66.   of more than 1024 cylinders. However, the partition where OS/2 is
  67.   started from cannot be greater than 1024 cylinders. The HPFS can
  68.   support drives of up to 2 GB.

  71. Installing OS/2 Warp 3.0 after Removing Disk Management
  72. -------------------------------------------------------
  73. 1. Update the BIOS with a 1994 BIOS that can handle logical block
  74.    address (LBA).
  75.  
  76. 2. Use an IDE controller card that has LBA.
  77.  
  78.    Note: Contact the vendor for the above resolutions.
  79.  
  80. 3. Partition the drive so OS/2 Warp 3.0 is in a partition within the
  81.    1024-cylinder limit. The remainder of the drive exceeding the limit
  82.    can be formatted as HPFS. This HPFS partition is not a startable
  83.    partition and cannot be accessed by DOS.
