VALUEPOINT W/S3 Drivers will Flicker 6/02/94
TITLE: VALUEPOINT SYSTEMS RUNNING IN SVGA W/ THE S3
DRIVERS WILL FLICKER, LOOSE SYNC, AND/OR HAVE A BLACK
BORDER AROUND THE DESKTOP.
DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS:
After installing svga w/ the s3 drivers on a valuepoint
system the system will flicker, loose sync, and/or have
black border around the desktop. When a system looses sync
the desktop will look corrupted w/ scrolling bar and/or
lines. The text may be corrupt as well.
SUMMARY OF RESOLUTION:
Run the display adapter utility called refresh.exe to set
the proper refresh rates for your monitor.
DETAILS OF RESOLUTION:
1. If the desktop is unusable you will need to boot from
floppy's then reset the system to vga using the "set vga"
or "rspdspi" commands.
2. Once the system is up and running in vga or svga
run "dspinstl" from an OS2 session and install the
s3 drivers. DO NOT REBOOT WHEN ASKED!
3. Open a DOS full screen session.
4. Get the DOS/autocad utility diskette that was
shipped w/ the Valuepoint and put the diskette in
drive A.
5. Change to the a: prompt and change to the
directory labeled "util".
6. Find refresh.exe and run the utility that is in
the directory "util".
7. Select the proper refresh rates for your monitor
at each resolution w/out exceeding the limits of
your monitor. The higher the refresh rate the better the
performance. If you do not know what your monitors limits
are, use the defaults that are selected for you already.
8. Save changes and exit the utility.
9. Change to the c: prompt and run "svga on". This
will recreate the svgadata.pmi file to reflect your
changes you made to the BIOS w/ the refresh.exe
utility.
10. Shutdown and reboot.
