  3. TIPS FOR ENABLING IBM OS/2 NETWORK TRANSPORT SERVICES (NTS/2)
  4. TO WORK WITH PCMCIA SOCKETS
  5.  
  6. DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS:
  7.     Unable to get PCMCIA modem to work with NTS/2.
  8.  
  9. SUMMARY OF RESOLUTION:
  10.     Verify the following:
  11.     1.  Socket Services must be loaded (Version 1.1 or 1.2).
  12.     2.  PCMCIA support (Card Services) from OS/2 2.1 Setup and
  13.         Installation must be installed.
  14.     3.  IBM OS/2 Network Transport Services/2 (NTS/2) with the
  15.         appropriate PCMCIA adapter driver must be installed.
  16.     4.  Power must be enabled to the sockets via the "Power
  17.         Management Utility".
  18.     5.  There must be no hardware conflicts.
  19.  
  20. DETAILS OF RESOLUTION:
  21.     PCMCIA is a new standard that is recognized by many
  22.     manufacturers including IBM.  It is very similar to an
  23.     LPT or COM port.  To enable NTS/2 to work with PCMCIA
  24.     sockets, check the following:
  25.  
  26.     1.  Socket Services must be loaded (Version 1.1 or 1.2).
  27.  
  28.         Socket Services comes with the laptop (such as an
  29.         IBM 720C) on a separate diskette.  Socket Services
  30.         enables the interfacing directly with the hardware
  31.         sockets.
  32.  
  33.         For IBM OS/2, the following drivers must be loaded
  34.         in config.sys:
  35.  
  36.             $ICPMOS2.SYS
  37.             IBM2SSO2.SYS  (IBM2SS01.SYS for ISA bus machines)
  38.             ICRMUO2.SYS   (ICRMUO1.SYS for ISA bus machines)
  39.  
  40.         These drivers are supported by PS/2 hardware support
  41.         1-800-772-2227.

  43.     2.  PCMCIA Support (Card Services) from OS/2 2.1 Setup and
  44.         Installation must be installed.  The following drivers
  45.         will be loaded in the CONFIG.SYS:
  46.  
  47.             PCMCIA.SYS
  48.             VPCMCIA.SYS
  49.  
  50.         These drivers are supported by OS/2 Base support.
  51.  
  52.     3.  IBM OS/2 Network Transport Services/2 (NTS/2) with the
  53.         appropriate PCMCIA adapter driver must be installed:

  55.             IBMTOKCS.OS2 - IBM Token Ring Credit Card Driver
  56.             PCM_CS.OS2 - Ethernet Credit Card Driver
  57.  
  58.     4.  Power must be enabled to the sockets via the Power
  59.         Management Utility.

  61.     5.  There must be no hardware conflicts in any of the
  62.         following:
  63.  
  64.             MMIO conflicts
  65.             RAM conflicts
  66.             Interrupt conflicts
