  1. Resolution for locked files during LAPS in      12/16/93
  2.  
  3. LOCKED FILES MESSAGE WILL NOT ALLOW LAPS INSTALLATION
  4.  
  5.  
  6. DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS
  7.     The following message displays during the LAN Adapter and
  8.     Protocol Support (LAPS) installation:
  9.  
  10.         Files from a previous installation of LAPS have been
  11.         found and are currently locked by the operating system.
  12.         LAPS cannot be run until these files have been removed.
  13.         To remove these locked files, reboot your system.
  14.  
  15. SUMMARY OF RESOLUTION
  16.     1.  Erase the IBMLANLK.LST file from the \OS2\INSTALL
  17.         directory.
  18.     2.  Shut down and restart the workstation, then retry the
  19.         LAPS installation.
  20.  
  21. DETAILS OF RESOLUTION
  22.     1.  From the drive where OS/2 is installed, perform the
  23.         following from the OS/2 command prompt:
  24.  
  25.         a.  Change directory to \OS2\INSTALL.
  26.  
  27.         b.  Delete the IBMLANLK.LST file:
  28.  
  29.                 DEL IBMLANLK.LST
  30.  
  31.         c.  Shut down OS/2 and restart the workstation.
  32.  
  33.         d.  Retry the LAPS installation.
  34.  
  35.         NOTE:  Do not continue with the following steps unless
  36.                the installation fails with the same error
  37.                message as listed above.
  38.  
  39.     2.  If the same "locked files" error message is displayed,
  40.         from the drive where OS/2 is installed perform the
  41.         following at the OS/2 command prompt:
  42.  
  43.         a.  Change directories to \OS2\INSTALL.
  44.  
  45.         b.  Delete the IBMLANLK.* files:
  46.  
  47.                 DEL IBMLANLK.*
  48.  
  49.         c.  Shut down OS/2 and restart the workstation.
  50.  
  51.         d.  Retry the LAPS installation.
