L123R210 -- PUBLIC APPLICATIONS with LOTUS FREELANCE 2.1 &
LOTUS 123 2.1 for OS/2
DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS:
The correct operation of Lotus 123 for OS/2, Lotus Freelance Graphics
for OS/2, and the Lotus License Management Facility are the prime
considerations in the development of this procedure.
SUMMARY OF RESOLUTION:
The following is an example of installing LOTUS 123 and Freelance for
OS/2 in a Domain for use as a Public Application for use by OS/2
Requester Workstations. Selected items, such as Aliases and drives,
can be customized for specific circumstances.
The installation is performed from a Workstation on the Network.

1. LOGON to the SERVER with an ADMINISTRATOR ID

Installing the Node Version on the Client

INSTALLING NETWORK VERSION TO THE SERVER
LOTUS 123 Release 2.1 for OS/2 and LOTUS Freelance Release 2.1,
NETWORK VERSIONS were installed from a Workstation on the
Network to the SUITE2 subdirectory on the D: drive of the Server.
1. LOGON to the SERVER with an ADMINISTRATOR ID
A. In an OS/2 Window or Full Screen session from a
Workstation on the network, type the following and
press ENTER:
LOGON adminid /P:password
where adminid is an Administrator ID and password
is the proper password for the ID.
2. OBTAIN ACCESS to the D: DRIVE on the SERVER
A. In an OS/2 Window or Full Screen session type the
following and press ENTER to connect to the D
Drive on the Server:
NET USE S: \\servername\D$
where servername is the Server Name of the Server
where the application will be installed.
B. To switch to the redirected S Drive, type the following
and press ENTER:
S:
C. Create the directories where the product and licenses
will be installed by doing the following:
- type MD SUITE2 and press ENTER
- type CD SUITE2 and press ENTER
- type MD DATALENS and press ENTER
- type MD LOTSHARE and press ENTER
- type CD LOTSHARE and press ENTER
- type MD 123G.V20 and press ENTER
- type MD FLG.V20 and press ENTER
D. Switch to the C drive by typing C: and pressing ENTER.
E. Disconnect from the redirected drive by typing the
following and pressing ENTER:
NET USE S: /D
3. CREATE the ALIASES
A. In an OS/2 Full Screen session, type NET and depress ENTER.
B. At the MAIN MENU, select Definitions from the top menu and
ALIASES from the pull down and FILES from the pop up.
C. Select NEW on the screen, select ACTIONS from the top menu
and CREATE from the pull down.
D. Fill in the panel and press ENTER:
ALIAS LOTSUIT2
DESCRIPTION Describe the Alias as desired
SERVER NAME Depress F4 and select the Server
name that was used in Step 2A
SERVER PATH D:\SUITE2
SHARED AT SERVER STARTUP is recommended
but AS REQUIRED BY USER is O.K.
E. At the Manage Aliases Panel, select NEW on the screen,
select ACTIONS from the top menu and CREATE from the pull
down.
F. Fill in the panel and press ENTER:
ALIAS LICENSE2
DESCRIPTION Describe the Alias as desired
SERVER NAME Depress F4 and select the Server
name that was used in Step 2A
SERVER PATH D:\SUITE2\LOTSHARE
SHARED AT SERVER STARTUP is recommended
but AS REQUIRED BY USER is O.K.
G. Exit the Full Screen Interface (REQ).
4. OBTAIN the DRIVES to the ALIASES
A. In an OS/2 Window or Full Screen session do the
following:
- type NET USE S: LOTSUIT2
- type NET USE T: LICENSE2
5. INSTALLING the LOTUS 123 PRODUCT
A. Insert Install Disk of LOTUS 123 in the Drive A.
B. In OS/2 Window or Full Screen session do the following:
type A: and press ENTER
type INSTALL and press ENTER
C. AT the INSTALLATION METHOD window, select NETWORK
INSTALLATION and OK.
D. At the NAME and ORGANIZATION window, enter the correct
information and select OK.
E. At the CONFIRM NAME and ORGANIZATION window, verify the
information and select YES.
F. At the INSTRUCTIONS window, review the information and
select CONTINUE.
G. At the INSTALL window, select OK,
H. AT the INSTALL DIRECTORIES window, specify the following:
S:\LOTUS\123G
as the PROGRAM DIRECTORY and select INSTALL.
I. Follow the instructions in the remaining panels to complete
the installation.
J. Exit the Installation.
6. INSTALLING DATALENS (Optional)
A. Insert the DATALENS Driver diskette in Drive A.
B. In OS/2 Window or Full Screen session do the following:
type XCOPY A:\ S:\DATALENS /S /E and press ENTER
C. Create a file named INSDATAL.CMD in the S:\DATALENS
Subdirectory containing the following:
START "DATALENS INSTALL" /WIN S:\DATALENS\SETUP.EXE
7. INSTALLING the LOTUS FREELANCE PRODUCT
A. Insert Install Disk of LOTUS Freelance in the Drive A.
B. In OS/2 Window or Full Screen session do the following:
type A: and press ENTER
type INSTALL and press ENTER
C. AT the INSTALLATION METHOD window, select NETWORK
INSTALLATION and OK.
D. At the NAME and ORGANIZATION window, enter the correct
information and select OK.
E. At the CONFIRM NAME and ORGANIZATION window, verify the
information and select YES.
F. At the INSTRUCTIONS window, review the information and
select CONTINUE.
G. At the INSTALL window, select OK,
H. AT the INSTALL DIRECTORIES window, specify the following:
S:\LOTUS\123G
as the PROGRAM DIRECTORY and select INSTALL.
I. Follow the instructions in the remaining panels to complete
the installation.
J. Exit the Installation.
8. SETTING the LICENSES PURCHASED
A. In an OS/2 Window or Full Screen session, type the
following and press ENTER:
S:\LOTUS\123G\COUNT
B. Choose SET from the top menu and set the number of
licenses purchased for each product.
C. Choose QUIT from the top menu.
9. CREATE INITIAL ACCESS CONTROL PROFILE
A. In an OS/2 Full Screen session, type NET and press
ENTER to start the Full Screen Interface (FSI).
B. From the MAIN PANEL, select DEFINITIONS from the top menu,
ALIASES from the pull down, and FILES from the pop up.
C. From the MANAGE ALIAS FILES menu, select LOTSUIT2.
D. Select ACCESS PROFILES from the top menu and CREATE
from the pull down.
E. Enter XR in the PERMISSIONS for USERS and press ENTER.
F. From the MANAGE ALIAS FILES menu, select LOTSUIT2.
G. Select ACCESS PROFILES for the top menu, APPLY from the
pull down and press ENTER.
H. ESC to the MAIN PANEL.
10. SETTING ACCESS CONTROL for the LICENSE and 123G DIRECTORIES
A. From the MAIN PANEL, select DEFINITIONS from the top
menu and ACCESS CONTROL from the pull down.
B. Select SERVERS from the top panel and DISPLAY PROFILES
by SERVER.
C. Select the same Server name that was used in step 2A.
D. Locate D:\SUITE2\LOTSHARE and select.
E. Select ACTIONS from top menu and UPDATE from pull down.
F. Specify XRWCDAP in PERMISSIONS and press ENTER.
G. Locate D:\SUITE2\LOTSHARE and select.
H. Select ACTIONS from top menu and APPLY from pull down
and press ENTER.
I. Locate D:\SUITE2\LOTUS\123G and select.
J. Select ACTIONS from the top menu and UPDATE from the
pull down.
K. Specify XRW in PERMISSIONS and press ENTER.
L. ESC to the MAIN PANEL.
NOTE: Access Control Profiles may need to be created for those
directories that will contain the Data/Document files.
11. DEFINING LOTUS 123/FREELANCE INSTALL as a PUBLIC APPLICATION
A. From the MAIN PANEL panel, select DEFINITIONS from the top
menu and APPLICATIONS from the pull down.
B. Select PUBLIC OS/2 APPLICATIONS.
C. Select NEW, ACTION from the top menu and CREATE from the
pull down.
D. At the CREATE OS/2 APPLICATIONS DETAILS panel, fill in
the panel:

12. PLACING LOTUS 123/FREELANCE INSTALL in the USER'S PUBLIC
APPLICATIONS FOLDER
A. From the MANAGE OS/2 APPLICATIONS panel, select INST1230.
B. Select STARTER from the top menu and select ADD from the
pull down.
C. Add the application to the users needed and press ENTER.
D. ESC to MAIN PANEL.
13. DEFINING DATALENS INSTALL as a PUBLIC APPLICATION
A. From the MAIN PANEL panel, select DEFINITIONS from the top
menu and APPLICATIONS from the pull down.
B. Select PUBLIC OS/2 APPLICATIONS.
C. Select NEW, ACTION from the top menu and CREATE from the
pull down.
D. At the CREATE OS/2 APPLICATIONS DETAILS panel, fill in
the panel:

15. DEFINING LOTUS 123 as a PUBLIC APPLICATION
A. From the MAIN PANEL panel, select DEFINITIONS from the top
menu and APPLICATIONS from the pull down.
B. Select PUBLIC OS/2 APPLICATIONS.
C. Select NEW, ACTION from the top menu and CREATE from the
pull down.
D. At the CREATE OS/2 APPLICATIONS DETAILS panel, fill in
the panel:

17. DEFINING LOTUS FREELANCE as a PUBLIC APPLICATION
A. From the MAIN PANEL panel, select DEFINITIONS from the top
menu and APPLICATIONS from the pull down.
B. Select PUBLIC OS/2 APPLICATIONS.
C. Select NEW, ACTION from the top menu and CREATE from the
pull down.
D. At the CREATE OS/2 APPLICATIONS DETAILS panel, fill in
the panel:

18. PLACING LOTUS FREELANCE in the USER'S PUBLIC APPLICATIONS
FOLDER
A. From the MANAGE OS/2 APPLICATIONS panel, select APPFLG2.
B. Select STARTER from the top menu and select ADD from the
pull down.
C. Add the application to the users needed and press ENTER.
D. ESC to MAIN PANEL.
E. Exit the FSI and LOGOFF the Administrator ID by typing
LOGOFF in an OS/2 Window or Full Screen session and
pressing ENTER.

INSTALLING THE NODE VERSION ON THE CLIENT
The following MUST be executed at each user's workstation to gain
access to Lotus 123 for OS/2, Lotus Freelance for OS/2 and the Lotus
License Management Facility. The LOGON ID used should NOT be an
Administrator ID.
1. LOGON TO THE DOMAIN CONTROLLER
A. In an OS/2 Window or Full Screen session type the following
and press ENTER on a Workstation in the Network:
LOGON userid /P:password
where userid is the actual userid and password is
the correct password for the userid entered.
2. INSTALLING LOTUS 123 and FREELANCE ON THE WORKSTATION
A. Using a mouse, double click on the Public Applications
icon on the Desktop.
B. Double click on the Lotus 123/Freelance 2.1 INSTALL icon.
C. At the INSTALLATION METHOD window, select NODE
INSTALLATION and OK.
D. At the NODEVERSION window, select BOTH VERSIONS.
E. At the INSTRUCTIONS window, review the information and
select CONTINUE.
F. At the INSTALL window, select UPDATE CONFIG.SYS and OK.
G. At the INSTALL - DIRECTORIES window, verify the
specifications for the directories. The following were
used for this procedure:
PROGRAM D:\123G
WORK D:\123G\WORK
TEMPLATE D:\123G\TEMPLATE
BACKUP D:\123G\BACKUP
TEMPORARY D:\123G\TEMP
H. Review the completion message and select OK.
I. Exit the installation.
J. The Workstation will need to be Shutdown and ReBooted
before Lotus 123 R2.1 can be used.
3. INSTALLING DATALENS ON THE WORKSTATION
A. Using a mouse, double click on the Public Applications
icon on the Desktop.
B. Double click on the DataLens INSTALL icon.
C. At the Datalens for OS/2 Install window, review the
information, select CONTINUE and OK.
D. Answer the LOTUS NOTES screen as appropriate (for this
scenario, it was answered NO).
E. Select NODE and OK.
F. Enter D: and select OK.
G. AT the Path to Shared Datalens Files on Server enter
D:\123G and select OK.
H. Select the drivers needed (all were selected for this
scenario).
I. Complete the series of screens that follow to specify
the locations of the databases per the information displayed.
J. At the Path for LOTUS 123 for OS/2 Release 2, enter
S:\LOTUS\123G and select OK.
K. Exit the Installation procedure.
L. Shutdown the workstation and ReBoot the system.
The Lotus 123 and/or Freelance icon can now be double clicked
in the PUBLIC APPLICATIONS folder to utilize the features
of Lotus 123 and Freelance for OS/2.
It may be desirable to delete the LOTUS APPLICATIONS folder and
it's contents since the applications will be accessed through
the Public Application Folder.

Cannot open SmartIcons set D:\FLG;D:\123G\LD2DIBAR.SMI
followed by
Cannot open file S:\LOTUS\SHEET.WG2... SYS0005 Access Denied
RESOLUTION
Remove any reference to the Drive and the FLG subdirectory
on the SET LOTUSPERSONAL= statement in the CONFIG.SYS
