  4.        TITLE:  APAR:  PJ13228 SYS0049 & SYS0045 Errors on RAM
  5.        Loadable ABIOS Machines
  6.  
  7.        DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS:
  8.  
  9.        Ram loadable ABIOS machines that are receiving a sys0049 or
  10.        sys0045 after FDISKing and installing using the OS/2 2.1
  11.        installation diskettes.
  12.  
  13.        SUMMARY OF RESOLUTION:
  14.  
  15.        The following Instructions only apply to IBM machines that
  16.        have RAM Loadable BIOS.  This includes all 95XX series
  17.        machines as well as the 700, and 720 series machines.  This
  18.        Fix only applies IF you FDISKed the drive using the 2.1 GA
  19.        install diskette set.  If you do not fit the above criteria
  20.        please have your hardware serviced.

  22.        DETAILS OF RESOLUTION:

  24.        Please follow these instructions:
  25.  
  26.        1. Get the Service Pack for 2.1 (MR1).
  27.  
  28.        2. Back up the IML partition off the machine having the SYS
  29.        error.
  30.  
  31.        3. Make a copy of DISKETTE 1 of the install 2.1 set.
  32.  
  33.        4. Take Diskette #2 of the 2.1 service pack and copy
  34.        IBM2M57.ADD to the backup copy of Diskette 1.
  35.  
  36.        5. Back UP ALL OF YOUR DATA on all of the drives that were
  37.        initially FDISKed with the 2.1 install set as by doing this
  38.        procedure you will loose ALL data on these drives.

  40.        6. Reboot the machine with the reference diskette.
  41.  
  42.        7. Low level format the drive(s) (the instructions are
  43.        contained in the hardware reference manual that came with
  44.        your machine).  At this point the data has been destroyed.
  45.  
  46.        8. Restore the IML partition on the machine (see your
  47.        hardware manual if you have any questions on how to do
  48.        this).
  49.  
  50.        9. Shut down the machine and reboot using the 2.1 install
  51.        diskette; when prompted for diskette 1 place the backup
  52.        disk in the drive and repartition the DISK(s) using FDISK.
  53.  
  54.        10.  Reformat the drive and reinstall the system.
  55.  
  56.        11.  Restore the Data and you are finished.

  59.        NOTE :  THIS fix only applies to machines that are 95xx or
  60.        700,720 series machines.  This Fix also only applies to
  61.        machines that were partitioned using the 2.1 GA install
  62.        set.  If you do not fit either of these categories have
  63.        your hardware serviced.  Additionally if the problem
  64.        persists after you do this procedure you need to have your
  65.        hardware serviced.
