| ES 1.0 CID INSTALLATION ERROR WARNING |
| |
| CM ES 1.0 |
| |
|LAST UPDATE: 01/13/94 BY: GMB |
| |
|PURPOSE: THIS INFORMATION APAR CONTAINS INFORMATION ON |
| THE ES CID TRAP E AND SYS2070 MESSAGE. |
| |
+-------------------------------------------------------------+
|
| OVERVIEW:
|
|ES CID creates two processes, one for the install program
|(ESAINST/ESAINSTS) and the other for the progress meter
|(ESASHELL).
|Each time ESAINSTS finishes a particular step, it puts a
|message on the queue for ESASHELL to process and display
|on the progress meter. When the installation is done,
|ESAINST puts a final message on the queue and terminates
|its execution. NVDM/2 will then detach the CID drive after
|it receives the return code from ESAINST. However, since
|ESASHELL is running on a different process, it may be
|finished after ESAINST (this can happen when the client has
|either high activities or low RAM). If some of ESASHELL's
|pages were discarded by OS/2 (to make room for active programs
|at the time these pages were removed) and NVDM/2 already
|detached the drive containing CID code (because ESAINST
|finished earlier), OS/2 cannot reload the missing code pages
|for ESASHELL and thus issues a TRAP E and the SYS2070 message.
|
|The current recommendation to solve this problem is to use
|to use '/NOPM' to not display the progress meter
|(e.g. ESAINST /NOPM ...).
|This particular problem would not happen in CM/2 CID
|because both the install program and the progress meter are
|running as separate threads in the same process.
