Accessing the OS/2 section of CompuServe 4/26/93
Process Document for Downloading Files from Compuserve
1. This document is written based on the assumption that the necessary
hardware and software are available, and that you are logged into
compuserve.
(Instructions for logging on are included in the introductory
documentation that Compuserve sends its customers.)
2. At the ! prompt, type GO IBMOS2 Press ENTERU.
3. A menu will appear with several OS/2 forums. Select either the
Support forum or the User forum by pressing the 1 or 2 key
Press ENTERU.
4. The relevant OS/2 files are in library 17 of either forum. Type
LIB 17 Press ENTERU.
5. If you know the name of the file you are looking for, you can
verify that it is there by typing DIR FilenameU Press ENTERU.
6. If the file is not found, try typing DIR, followed by a space,
followed by the first couple of characters in the filename,
followed by a * Press ENTERU. For example, to find the file
COMMGA.ZIP, type DIR CO* Press ENTERU.
7. To download a file, type download FilenameU Press ENTERU at the
LIB 17! prompt.
8. A protocol prompt will appear. In Compuserve, CIS B is
usually the best, but experimentation may be necessary, and the
communications software has to support whatever protocol is chosen.
Choose the protocol press ENTERU.
9. Now select the matching protocol in the communication
software.
10. Downloading should commence. The file will be located in whatever
default directory has been set by the communication package (or
user directory if such a thing has been previously modified).
11. Repeat steps 5 through 10 until all files needed are downloaded.
