  3. OS2BBS.FAX                                 ACCESSING THE IBM BBS

  6.                       USING THE IBM BBS
  7.  
  8. Setup your communications software to dial 919-517-0001.
  9. When you are connected, the system will ask your name and
  10. password. If you do not have a password the system will ask
  11. you to select one.
  12.  
  13. Select (L)ist and the system will give you a list of directories.
  14. From this list, select the one you need.  The list of OS/2 files
  15. are as follows:

  17. 10:OS/2 Utilities                  11:OS/2 Programming
  18. 12:OS/2 Graphics & Music           13:OS/2 Entertainment
  19. 14:OS/2 Communications Files       15:OS/2 Text Files
  20. 16:OS/2 Applications               17:OS/2 Device Drivers
  21. 18:OS/2 Bulletin Board             36:ValuePoint Files

  23. Select the one you want.
  24.  
  25. Look through the file list in the selection you made and
  26. when you find the one you want hit (M)ark then the letter of the
  27. file you want.  If you want more (C)ontinue and (M)ark the ones
  28. you want.  When finished select (N)o and then Return.
  29.  
  30. From the main menu select (D)ownload then (M)arked files
  31. and then the letters of the marked files.  Select the download
  32. protocol you wish to use.  Select Autologoff or not.
  33.  
  34. When prompted with ready to send files set your software for the
  35. proper protocol (XMODEM should be acceptable).  If the files come
  36. with the extension of .ZIP you need to unzip the files using
  37. PKUNZIP.  Then you can use the file or first read the Read.Me
  38. that comes with file if applicable.

  40. PKUNZIP2.EXE (OS2) or PKZIP.EXE (DOS) is available on the same
  41. BBS and is needed for .ZIP files.

  44.      HOW TO LOG ON AND DOWNLOAD FROM THE IBM BBS (919-517-0001)

  46. DETAILS OF RESOLUTION:
  47.  
  48. 1.  Double click on the OS/2 System icon.
  49. 2.  Double click on the Productivity icon
  50. 3.  Double click on the PM Terminal icon.
  51. 4.  Double click on IBM PUBLIC BBS.
  52. 5.  Change phone number from 404-835-6600 to 919-517-0001, SAVE.
  53. 6.  Choose dial to call the BBS.
  54.  
  55. When you connect to BBS, it asks you the following questions.
  56.  
  57. 7.  Name(F)   JOHN
  58. 8.  Name(L)   SMITH
  59. 9.  Answer Yes (Y) to register
  60. 10. Yes (Y) for Ansi graphics if your system can handle it
  61. 11. Select a password:   SUNNY
  62. 12. Re-enter password:   SUNNY
  63. 13. City,state:          BOCA RATON, FL
  64. 14. Model # if you are using a PS/2 System: type the model and
  65.     press enter OR press enter if you are not using a PS/2.
  66. 15. Phone #:             541-254-1463

  68. It will then ask you a separate set of questions:
  69.  
  70. 16. How did you hear of us:    IBM
  71. 17. Street Address:            1 SOUTH STREET
  72. 18. City,state,zip:            BOCA RATON, FL, 33418
  73. 19. How many times do you think you will call:    10
  74. 20. Do you make or influence PC buying for your company   YES/NO
  75. 21. Will this support influence your next computer Purchase  Y/N
  76.  
  77. You will see the Welcome Screen.  Press enter to read the news.
  78. Choose No if you do not want to read the news.   You will then
  79. come to a Welcome Screen/Main Menu.

  81. 22. Type S to search for a file and then press enter
  82. 23. ie. 21WPSF.*  - the BBS will then be searched
  83. 24. When it finds the file type M to mark the file
  84.     (ie. A,B,C,D)  (A) 21WPSF.ZIP 152100 10-27-93
  85.                        OS/2 2.1 SHUTDOWN FIX
  86. 25. Q for quit
  87. 26. You will be at the Main Screen.  Type D to download file.
  88. 27. M for marked files
  89. 28. It will display all of the files you marked to download.
  90.     For example, one file was marked, so it will be displayed as:
  91.     (A) 21WPSF.ZIP.  Choose A to download this file.
  92. 29. It will then ask you for a protocol chose X modem.
  93. 30. Choose auto logoff to disconect after the transfer.

  95. IF YOU KNOW THE FILE NAME

  97. 1.  At the Main Menu type D for download
  98. 2.  The file name
  99. 3.  Choose a Protocol
