** Available from OS2BBS (404-835-6600) or
Compuserve.
NOTE: Skip any step which has already been done on the
workstation; e.g., Do not make the 386 HPFS Boot
diskettes if already done.
Should a problem occur while following this procedure:
1. Repeat the step to verify all instructions
were followed.
2. Call the IBM Software Solution Service for
assistance.
1. If not already done, make a set of OS/2 2.1 386 HPFS
Boot Diskettes:
a. Diskcopy the first three OS/2 2.1 installation
diskettes:
OS/2 2.1 Installation Disk
OS/2 2.1 Installation Disk 1.
OS/2 2.1 Installation Disk 2.
b. Put the original diskettes away.
c. Label the new diskettes as follows:
OS/2 2.1 386 HPFS Boot Disk 1
OS/2 2.1 386 HPFS Boot Disk 2
OS/2 2.1 386 HPFS Boot Disk 3
d. Insert the OS/2 2.1 386 HPFS Boot Disk 2 (created
in the previous step) and delete the BUNDLE file.
e. Run the MAKEDISK utility, beginning with Step 2 on
page C-26 of the Network Administrator Reference
Volume 3 Network Administrator Tasks. (Use the
OS/2 2.1 386 HPFS Boot Disk 2 created in the previous
step 1c.)
Be sure to verify the boot diskettes by following
Steps 4-7 of the MAKEDISK Utility in the above listed
manual.
f. If problems occur making these diskettes or the
workstation does not start using the OS/2 2.1 386
HPFS Boot Diskettes, do the following:
1) Repeat the MAKEDISK step (try making the disks
manually, page C-27).
2) Call the IBM Software Solution Service for
assistance.
If the workstation starts successfully, continue
with the next step.
2. If Fault Tolerance is installed, use the Fault Tolerance
Setup (FTSETUP) utility to unmirror and deactivate
currently mirrored drives. (See the IBM OS/2 LAN Server
Network Administrator Reference Volume 3: Network
Administrator Tasks Version 3.0, pages 12-6 and C-9,
for the procedures to unmirror and deactivate drives.)
3. Run the OS/2 LAN installation program to ensure that
386 HPFS and all expected features are installed. Remove
Local Security if it is installed:
a. Open the LAN Services folder.
b. Activate the Installation and Configuration
icon.
c. Select Advanced Installation.
d. Ensure that the 386 HPFS feature and all expected
features are installed. If they are not, install
and configure them now.
e. If Local Security is installed, remove it at
this time.
f. Complete the Advanced Installation.
4. Back up the NET.ACC and the Access Control Profiles:
a. Log on as an administrator.
b. Issue the following command:
BACKACC x:\ /S
(x = the drive where OS/2 2.1 is installed)
c. From an OS/2 command prompt, change to the
\IBMLAN\ACCOUNTS directory; and copy the
following files to a diskette or a disk that will
not be affected by the OS/2 installation:
NETACC.BKP
ACLBAKx.ACL
(x = the drive where OS/2 is installed)
(These files are being saved for possible recovery
purposes.)
5. Back up the Domain Controller DataBase (DCDB) by using
either XCOPY (if it will fit on 1 diskette) or
another backup program:
CAUTION: Do NOT use a DOS backup program to back up
these files. DOS backup programs cannot detect
the existence of any Access Control Profiles.
If using XCOPY, at an OS/2 command prompt, issue
the following command:
XCOPY x:\IBMLAN\DCDB y:\ /S /E
x = the drive where LAN is installed
y = a diskette or a disk that will NOT be
affected by the OS/2 installation
6. Run PREPACL to remove the 386HPFS Access Control
Profiles:
a. At an OS/2 command prompt, issue the following
command:
PREPACL /P /B:filename.ext /D:x:\
(filename.ext = your choice of an output
filename
x = the drive where OS/2 2.1 is installed)
b. Copy "filename.ext" that was specified above to a
diskette or disk that will NOT be affected by the
OS/2 installation.
c. Activate the LAN Requester from the LAN Services
folder:
1) From the LAN Requester Main Menu, select
DEFINITIONS, ACCESS CONTROL, and SERVER.
From the Options list, select --HERE-- and
press Enter.
2) Ensure there are NO Access Control Profiles
defined for the drive where OS/2 2.1 is
installed (the exceptions are \PIPE, \COMM and
\PRINT).
7. Install the OS/2 2.1 ServicePak XR06200.
Following are some possible installation
problems and their suggested workarounds:
a. If a locked file error occurs or if unexpected
errors occur while files are being unpacked, follow
the "Recovery Procedure for Locked Files After
Running PREPACL", Appendix A of this document.
b. If errors display while rebooting (e.g.,
SYS1719), edit the CONFIG.SYS to enable 386 HPFS
as follows:
1) Place REM in the first position on the
HPFS.IFS line.
2) Move the HPFS386.IFS statement to the top of
the CONFIG.SYS.
3) Reboot the system.
4) Call the IBM Software Solution Service Center
(1-800-992-4777) for any other errors while
installing OS/2 2.1. Request to speak to the
OS/2 Base group.
8. Run PREPACL to replace the 386 HPFS Access Control
Profiles:
a. From an OS/2 command prompt issue the following
command:
PREPACL /R /B:filename.ext
(where "filename.ext" is the path and name
of the "filename.ext" specified previously
in Step 6a.)
b. Shut down, reboot the system, and start the server.
c. Ensure that users can log on and use the server.
9. If Local Security was removed previously, install it
at this time:
a. Open the LAN Services folder.
b. Activate the Installation and Configuration icon.
c. Select Advanced Installation.
d. Install and configure Local Security.
e. Complete the Advanced Installation.
f. Shut down the system and reboot.
10. If Fault Tolerance was removed previously or in
Step 2, run the FTSETUP utility to remirror drives
for Fault Tolerance. (See the IBM OS/2 LAN Server
Network Administrator Reference Volume 3: Network
Administrator Tasks Version 3.0, pages 12-6 and C-9,
for the procedures.)
11. Make new 386 HPFS Boot diskettes following the procedure
in step 1.
