TUNNEL/2 Version 1.40 November 1, 1998
============================================================================
Dear Tunnel/2 User,
We advise you to read the following in full.
Clarifications
--------------
* Instead of counting on PROXY ARP, we recommend to use STATIC ROUTING at
the Master LAN.
Simply update your corporate router with a route instructing it to route
Tunnel traffic through the Master PC. Don't hesitate to ask for tech.
support at support@fx.dk.
THE FULL STORY:
Adding and removing PROXY ARP entries at the Tunnel Master location may
show errors in the output window. Often, these errors can be ignored
and they are very likely to be triggered on only some versions of the
TCP/IP stack. Use 'arp -a' to verify your own PROXY ARP entries at
any time.
When PROXY ARP really fails, the symptom is that your LAN clients on the
corporate LAN will not be able to reach the remote Slaves. This will
happen with TCP/IP v4.1, as ARP is broken. F/X has an unofficial fix
from IBM.
USE STATIC ROUTING !
Unfinished Business
-------------------
* A Presentation Manager (and maybe Java) interface for the Tunnel Master
is not there yet, but we actually have worked hard on this and
accordingly expect to release that together with the next major release
of Tunnel/2.
* Tunnel/2 for Win NT/95/98 is still being worked at.
* Tunnel/2 still uses a propriatary protocol. Because Tunnel/2 add add so
much extra value, none of the current Tunneling protocols can be used.
We are keeping an eye on the constant development in this area and expect
to settle for a standard later, as they catch up with Tunnel/2.
