Newest version always available from:
http://www.silcom.com/~gemini/gemz/
***Note: GemZ does not coexist with any other scripts, unless so noted
in that script. Please remove any other scripts from loading
in either your ircrc or OpenCHAT.irc file before loading GemZ.
Loading more than one script will generally inhibit the function
both of the scripts, and confuse them immensely.
***Installing GemZ/2.
Manual install
To install GemZ manually put all the GemZ files into the script2
directory of where you installed OpenCHAT/2. (eg C:\OpenCHAT\script2\)
It is not recommended you put the Script anywhere else! To get GemZ
to load on startup add "^load gemz2fp.irc" to the end of your
OpenCHAT.irc file (the OpenCHAT/2 Startup Script Item in your OpenCHAT/2
folder). Also comment, or remove the lines that load the default
script (^load sample.irc and ^load openmenu.scr)
Automated Install or Upgrade.
To install using the provided install program... just run install.cmd
from the directory where you unpacked the GemZ release, and then
answer the questions. You will need to know where you installed
OpenCHAT/2.
Please Email Bugs/comments/questions to gemini@silcom.com

GemZ/2(fullpack) Readme
Welcome to GemZ/2, the first (and currently only) script designed
for OpenCHAT/2. GemZ/2 is a standard ircii script with
enhancements made for OpenCHAT/2 (mikh's excellent client).
Consequently, attempting to run this script on any other client
is, well, rather stupid. If you need ircii/2 or ircii 2.8 support,
get the specific versions for those clients.
GemZ/2 Features!
The Use Of OpenCHAT/2 Menus and popup Menus
Not a mutant script(completely new)
Complete ircii/2 and OpenCHAT/2 Color support with the ability to
customize and save your own colors.
Extended Windowing Support -- Messages windows, Talk Windows (query)
OperVision Windows etc..
(Windowing support customized exclusively for OpenCHAT/2)
XDCC support (enhanced for ReSend/ReGet)
Fast Userlist and fast running (Also thanks to Mikh's extremely fast
script parser.
Built to take advantage of OpenCHAT/2 only features
URL Catcher and Ability to right click click on a URL and
send it to browser.
Sound support for various events.
Sounds... Customize Events with Personalized Sounds.
Drag and Drop DCC send/resend of files.
XDCC file send selection from File Dialogs.
Drag and Drop Kicks from a .kix file.
GemZ History
I started GemZ as an addon to ctoolz+bitZ. Ctoolz is a great
unix client with built in cdcc and userlists. It has many great
script features built in, therefore a script for ctoolz became much
smaller but had more functionality than most large-scale scripts.
After being a ctoolz user for a very long time, I finally came across
bitZ, by pent, and haven't used any other script for ctoolz since.
So I started learning a bit of ircii scritping and added some fun
stuff as an addon to bitZ. GemZ was born. But I also discovered
mikh's client ircii/2 (and later OpenCHAT/2) were excellent clients.
I ran kmp and lice on top of the clients, but i've always disliked
those scripts look and feel (again, from using ctoolz so long).
So i started my addon to kmp and lice, GemZ/2 was born.
About 2 days after I started GemZ/2, I discovered adding on to Lice
was not a fun thing... to do all the things required to modify
lice would require a lot of extra thought, extra coding (lice
is already quite big as it is), and i'd _still_ be limited and
subject to breaking version by version.
GemZ/2(fullpack) was born. The initial look/feel was derived
from the look of ctoolz/bitz as I could (much of the beginning
code style was copied from bitZ... thank you pent).
Script updates come fast, I work on it a lot. Comments and
suggestions are taken seriously, and generally added immediately,
or at least added to the to-do list. I write the script for
myself, but if others enjoy, all the better.
(Appended 9/19/97)
On Retrospect the decision to move from lice was the best thing
that could happen to OpenChat. OpenChat needed a script that was
designed for it... designed Exclusively for it. GemZ is this script.
It takes full advantage of the client, and for this, I truly think
it is the best script for OpenChat (well, primarily because there
really aren't any other as of this writing).
I've continued to move away from other people code over the time,
replacing the borrowed xdcc code with a complete rewrite to take
full advantage of OpenChat/2 power and speed. GemZ has progressed
a lot since the first days of my ctoolz endeavers, it's kind of funny
to look back on.
Addendum:
I personally do not care what anyone does with *MY* code.
I have removed all "Copyright" Notices, for two reasons.
#1 I don't care if anyone copies/hacks/breaks or whatevers my code...
If I didn't want you to have it, I wouldn't distribute it. #2 Although
much of what GemZ has become is original code, a lot of the userlist
code originated from mikh and his sample.irc I asked mikh's permission
before I began, and he did not have a problem with it.
The bottom line is that i've assembled GemZ from a lot of peoples ideas,
and many of my own... it's the sharing of ideas that make better scripts.
So to share only makes sense... all i ask is to give credit where credit
is due.
