ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 22. Set up a Network Printer Adapter? ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Here are a list of guidelines that will help you answer this question:
1. Are you using this workstation as a LAN (local area network) server?
(This refers to the workstation where the printer is being installed.)
o If yes, continue to step 2.
o If no, press No.
2. Is the printer attached to a network printer adapter? (Commonly used
network printer adapters include the IBM LAN Connection for Printers and
Plotters, also known as the IBM 4033, and the IBM LaserPrinter Integrated
Network Option.)
o If yes, continue to step 3.
o If no, press No.
3. Is the network printer adapter's software already installed?
o If yes, press No.
o If no, and you wish to install the software, press Yes.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 23. Cannot Install Additional LPT Ports ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Your workstation already has the maximum number of LPT ports available as
defined by OS/2. For version 1.3, this maximum number is 7. For version 2.0,
this number is 9. No more LPT ports can be installed.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 24. Complete Network Printer Adapter Installation ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
To finish installing your printer, you need to shutdown and re-boot your
workstation. After that, you need to use the Network Printer Adapter Utility
that came with your network printer adapter to set up assignments. Please
consult the manual that came with your network printer adapterfor information
about finishing its setup.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 25. Driver Installation Error ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
An error has occurred while attempting to install a printer driver. The most
likely reasons for this error are:
1. Some of the necessary files are missing from the path and drive you
specified.
2. The driver files in the current path and drive are invalid.
To correct this error, simply press OK. You will be asked for a new drive and
path. This will allow you to either enter a new drive and path for driver
files or to simply switch diskettes.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 26. Re-insert SETUP Diskette ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
You have finished installing printer drivers. Please insert the diskette
labelled SETUP into the drive and path specified, then press OK.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 27. Print Queue/Object Setup ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
You can set up additional information about each printer queue/object created
by this utility. For example, you can identify which paper trays are installed
and which fonts are available.
If you press Yes, a dialog will be displayed for each printer queue/object. In
these dialogs, you will have the chance to set up the printers.
If you press No, each printer queue/object will retain its defaults.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 28. Assigning Multiple Printer Languages to One Port ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
You have installed several printer languages on your printer(s), but you have
not installed AES. Currently, a printer object/queue is set up for each printer
language that you chose for each printer you installed. However, these printer
objects/queues are not yet available for use.
If you choose Yes, each printer object/queue will be assigned to the physical
port of the printer where that printer language is being used. This allows that
printer object/queue to be available for use. Therefore, multiple printer
objects/queues will be assigned to the same port. Please note that under this
condition, you will not be able to use all of your printer languages from
command prompts or from "older" OS/2 applications that report only printer
queues/objects with unique ports assigned to them.
If you choose No, no additional printer setup will take place. The printer
objects/queues setup by this utility will be unavailable for use. When you exit
this utility you will need to assign ports to these printer objects/queues so
that they can be used.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 29. Driver IOPL Installation Error ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The installation utility is unable to install any printer drivers because IOPL
(I/O Protection Level) is set to NO on your workstation. To correct this error:
1. Choose OK to exit the installation utility
2. Edit CONFIG.SYS with the OS/2 System Editor and add the line IOPL=YES.
3. Shutdown and re-boot your workstation so that the changes to CONFIG.SYS
can take effect.
4. Re-start the installation utility.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 30. Emulation Switching ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Emulation switching is the ability of the printer to switch between different
printer languages by simply reading printer escape sequences. The printer
escape sequences needed to switch between printer languages are described in
your printer technical reference.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 31. Automatic Emulation Switching ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Automatic Emulation Switching, or AES, is a software utility that you can
install so that your printer automatically switches among its different
datastreams.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 32. Internal/External Printer Network Adapters ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Internal or External Printer Network Adapters allow your printer to be directly
attached to a Local Area Network. Network printer adapters typically include
such adapters as:
o The IBM LAN Connection for Printers and Plotters (also known as the IBM
4033), an external adapter
o The IBM LaserPrinter Integrated Network Option, an adapter that plugs into a
printer
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 33. Printer Toolkit ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Printer Toolkit is a utility that allows you to perform various printer
functions (for example, downloading fonts) quickly and easily from your
workstation.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 34. Specifying Print Queue/Object Name ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Please enter the name for the new printer queue or object about to be created.
A valid name contains characters in the ranges, a-z, A-Z and 0-9 and has a
length of up to 8 characters.
Example: LASER1Q
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 35. Specifying Program Group Name ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
