  4. IBM offers treat for those who feel tricked by Windows 95

  6.   AUSTIN, Texas, October 31, 1995...IBM today announced the
  7. availability of Just Add OS/2* Warp, a free package of software
  8. utilities to help users deinstall Windows 95 and then load OS/2 Warp,
  9. or install OS/2 Warp alongside Windows** 95.  Just Add OS/2 Warp
  10. introduces computer users to the options they have for upgrading to a
  11. 32-bit operating system, shows them how OS/2 Warp and Windows 95 can
  12. coexist, and analyzes their hardware to ensure that it's ready to
  13. upgrade to OS/2 Warp.  Highlighting some of the many advantages of
  14. OS/2 Warp over Windows 95, the utility's Upgrade Advisor allows users
  15. of any operating system, including Windows 95, PC DOS, MS-DOS,
  16. Windows 3.1, and versions of OS/2, a quick and easy look at whether
  17. their system is ready to upgrade.

  19.   "Few things are as frustrating as finding that a product's promised
  20. plug-and-play features don't really work on your PC and then watching
  21. your long distance calls to tech support run up while your new
  22. software won't run at all," said Dan Lautenbach, vice president, IBM
  23. Personal Software Products.  "The bottom line is that millions of
  24. people may have been duped into trying to use something that doesn't
  25. deliver its advertised features.  Scary, but true.  Just Add OS/2
  26. Warp provides a means to rescue those unhappy Windows 95 customers."

  28. Upgrade Advisor

  30.   Just Add OS/2 Warp's Upgrade Advisor automatically checks the user's
  31. PC to determine if it is ready to upgrade to OS/2 Warp.  The Advisor
  32. shows whether the PC has enough memory, processor power and hard disk
  33. space, so that the user can move on to the upgrade with confidence.
  34. The Advisor allows users to see whether their devices are supported
  35. by OS/2 Warp and where to obtain device drivers if they are not.  It
  36. also will suggest hardware upgrades that can make the PC ready for
  37. OS/2 Warp.  All of the information gathered by the Advisor remains on
  38. the user's computer and is not forwarded off-site.

  40.   "Today's OS/2 Warp offers battle-tested features that have been
  41. available for three years," Lautenbach said.  "Just Add OS/2 Warp
  42. offers users easy access to a level of operating system that Windows
  43. 95 can only hope to become in the future."

  45. What Microsoft Didn't Tell You

  47.   Recent buyers of personal computers, who thought they had to accept
  48. their machines preloaded with Windows 95, now have a choice.  With
  49. Just Add OS/2 Warp, users can quickly review the easy migration
  50. scenarios, such as installation of OS/2 Warp over Windows 95 or
  51. Windows 3.1, even Windows 95 over OS/2 Warp.  The OS/2 Warp and
  52. Windows systems can coexist and users do not need to delete OS/2 to
  53. try Windows 95 (although that is what Windows 95 documentation
  54. instructs users to do).

  56.   Just Add OS/2 Warp also explains how to dual boot OS/2 Warp and
  57. Windows 95.  The utility teaches users a dual boot shortcut and
  58. introduces them to a new feature of OS/2 Warp that shows Windows 95
  59. long file names from OS/2 Warp.  Both the Dual Boot and Long File
  60. Name Utility can be installed directly from Just Add OS/2 Warp onto
  61. the user's PC.

  63.   The utility comes with a set of instructions for how to uninstall
  64. Windows 95.  The instructions help users remove Windows 95 from their
  65. systems while preserving their work.

  69.   Other features offered in Just Add OS/2 Warp include answers to
  70. frequently asked questions about OS/2 Warp and Warp Connect.  A
  71. section about OS/2 treats is loaded with useful tips developed and
  72. perfected by an OS/2 users group from Champaign-Urbana, Illinois.  An
  73. index to the Internet web sites and Bulletin Board systems that
  74. feature OS/2 Warp discussion, programs and information is included.
  75. Both home and enterprise users can see what OS/2 Warp and OS/2 Warp
  76. Connect offer by cruising through the quick demo found in Just Add
  77. OS/2 Warp.

  88. copies of OS/2 Warp have been sold since November 1994.  OS/2 Warp
  89. has won 23 industry awards, including editors choice awards, user
  90. awards and technical awards.  In 1995, more than 125 software
  91. developers have announced plans to offer new native OS/2
  92. applications, adding to the 2,500 OS/2 applications already on the
  93. market.
