  4. GAMMATECH UTILITIES 3.0 ENHANCEMENT

  8. GENERAL
  9. Release 3.0 of the GammaTech Utilities has over 200 enhancements.  
  10. Many of these enhancements add functionality, others involve product 
  11. performance.  HPFS version 2.3 and 2.4 support has been added.  This 
  12. includes 2 gigabyte volume support and the IBM LAN Server 4.0 
  13. HPFS386 enhancements. The log files of all utilities now displays the 
  14. utility name and version number.

  22. DiskMap Utility
  23.     This new utility has been added to provide a graphical display of 
  24.     the layout of FAT or HPFS volumes.  The DiskMap displays disk
  25.     sectors color coded to indicate free space, bad sectors, system 
  26.         sectors and file allocation.
  27.  
  28. SEdit    The Sector Editor has been separated from the GTDisk utility and
  29.     is now freestanding utility.  The SEdit utility allows the user
  30.     to view formatted displays of hex data for file structures,
  31.     including the boot sector, HPFS Super and Spare Blocks, FAT
  32.     file allocation tables and the partition table.  In addition,
  33.     multiple sectors may now be written or read from external files.

  35. Files Utility
  36.     A replacement for the previous Attribute, Delete, and Find utilities, 
  37.     the Files Utility integrates the functions, simplifying file 
  38.         maintenance and providing significantly improved functionality. 
  39.     Files may be deleted, moved, copied or located, and their attributes
  40.         or timestamps altered.  Extensive file selection criteria enable the
  41.         user to easily perform operations on multiple files.

  43. HexDump Utility
  44.     The HexDump Utility permits user to convert binary files to ASCII, 
  45.     readable text which can then be viewed or edited by any text editor
  46.     and converted back into binary format.
  47.  
  48. WipeFree Utility
  49.     The command line replacement for the function within the former 
  50.     Delete utility, the WipeFree Utility allows wiping of all freespace. 
  51.     The option to perform secure wiping in conformance with US Department
  52.         of Defense specifications is included.  An new option enables the
  53.         user to erase freespace on volumes which have been fast formatted.

  61.     - Support has been added for HPFS versions 2.3 and 2.4 and the IBM

  66.           corrective service maintenance via CompuServe and BBSs.

  75. Analyze Utility
  76.     The file or system area occupying a bad sector may now be identified.
  77.     Bad sectors may be automatically marked as bad during analysis,and 
  78.     all sectors marked as bad on the volume displayed.

  81. FatOpt Utility
  82.     A graphic display of the optimization process is now displayed. 
  83.     Trigger parameters permit optimization to proceed if fragmentation 
  84.     exceeds a certain level.  The user may now select to defragment
  85.     the FAT Extended Attribute EA_DATA._SF file.

  87. GtDisk Utility
  88.     The BadSectr utility has been merged into GtDisk to provide simplified 
  89.     recovery operations when it is not possible to boot OS/2.  Sectors may
  90.     now be unmarked to remove the bad sector designation.
  91.  
  92.     The Backup Boot Sector function now allows for more comprehensive 
  93.     backup and restore for HPFS volumes by selectively restoring the boot 
  94.     block, super block, and spare blocks in addition to the logical boot 
  95.     record.

  97.     The HPFS Recovery function has been extensively reworked to provide 
  98.     easier use and additional recovery options, including those instances
  99.     where the directory structure has been destroyed.  The option now 
  100.     exists to recover individual files as well as directories.
  101.  
  102.     The Partition Fixup utility has been enhanced to improve recovery
  103.     even when the new partition does not exactly align with the 
  104.     previous partition.

  106. HpfsOpt Utility
  107.     Optimization algorithms have been rewritten to significantly enhance
  108.     performance and effectiveness.  The user may now perform automatic
  109.     optimization at specified intervals.
  110.  
  111. Reboot Utility
  112.     Additional options have been added to shut down Presentation Manager 
  113.     applications and request their settings be saved prior to reboot.
  114.  
  115. Sentry Utility
  116.     Automatic detection of off-line repartitioning of drives has been 
  117.     added. An option to automatically backup the CONFIG.SYS has been 
  118.     added.  The SENTRY.INI has been eliminated and Sentry now uses the 
  119.     standard OS/2.INI files to save information.
  120.  
  121. UnDelete Utility
  122.     The OS/2 Undelete feature is now supported; customers may now mix 
  123.     and match the two capabilities. Logic has been added to enhance 
  124.     recovery of erased files.
