TITLE IBM EXTENDED SERVICES
ABSTRACT IBM announces two new program products that provide data base
and communications function to Operating System/2 (R) (OS/2 (R)).
Both programs also contain data base administration tools, Query
Manager and enhanced communications support for local area network
(LAN) and stand-alone workstations. The two programs are: IBM
Extended Services with Database Server for OS/2 and IBM Extended
Services for OS/2. Associated only with the Extended Services with
Database Server program, is a distributed feature called Database
Client Application Enablers. The function offered as a distributed
feature is a subset of that provided in the program product. This
feature enables DOS, DOS Windows and OS/2 clients to access any
Extended Services data base server on a LAN. This same client
support can provide read/write access to IBM host servers supporting
Distributed Relational Database Architecture (TM) (DRDA (TM)) via the
IBM Distributed Database Connection Services/2 Version 1.0 product.
The IBM Extended Services for OS/2 program includes DOS, DOS Windows
and OS/2 client support similar to that in the distributed feature.
Extended Services is designed to:
o Run on the IBM OS/2 Standard Edition (SE) Version 1.3 (Refresh
Level 1.30.1) or replace the Communications and Database Manager
functions of the IBM OS/2 Extended Edition (EE) Version 1.3 when
upgraded to Refresh Level 1.30.1. Extended Services will also
run on the OS/2 Version 2.0 32-bit operating system. In
addition, Extended Services supports selected versions of OS/2
that have been determined to be compatible with IBM OS/2 SE
Version 1.3 Refresh Level 1.30.1 or later, marketed by other
vendors.
o Be supported on OS/2 compatible versions of the IBM Personal
Computer and PS/2 (R) hardware as well as on selected non-IBM
hardware.
Extended Services includes many function, performance and
usability enhancements to the data base and communications
applications previously available in the IBM OS/2 EE Version 1.3.
The base OS/2, previously part of the Extended Edition's Database and
Communications Manager components, is now a separately-packaged
program. The LAN Requester is now provided with IBM OS/2 LAN Server
Version 2.0.

DESCRIPTION
INVESTMENT PROTECTION
Many customers rely on multiple vendors to provide their personal
computer hardware and software solutions. IBM serves to both protect
and enhance these customer investments by providing Extended Services
functions to multivendor environments.
COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER: Communications support for 3174 Peer
Communications, in conjunction with companion support in the 3174,
allows workstations connected via existing 3270 wiring (for example,
coaxial cable) to the controller to communicate with each other as if
interconnected in a manner similar to that available on token-ring
networks. The 3270 EHLLAPI interface has been extended with support
for structured fields and enhanced to allow multiple, simultaneous
access by more than one application. In addition, EHLLAPI functions
can now be used in REXX Procedure Language Programs for both 3270 and
5250 applications. Virtual Device Drivers (VDDs) will allow NETBIOS
applications, running in a DOS partition, to share an adapter with
other DOS and OS/2 NETBIOS applications and allow existing DOS 3270
EHLLAPI applications to run in a DOS partition, sharing
Communications Manager EHLLAPI with other DOS and OS/2 applications.
In addition, APPC support provided by the current Networking
Services/2 (NS/2) product has been integrated into the Communications
Manager. Advanced Peer-to-Peer Network (APPN) function allows
existing APPC applications to take advantage of peer networks with
simplified configuration, improved performance, better availability
through dynamic routing, and easier network maintenance. This means
that APPN networking, improved APPC support and the CPI-C interface
are all available within the Extended Services communications
function.
DATABASE MANAGER: The Database Manager offers enhancements to permit
customers to enable existing DOS and DOS Windows-based machines to
participate as data base clients on a LAN. Enhanced SQL capabilities
have been added bringing data base more into compliance with SAA SQL
Level 1. Roll-forward recovery (archive logging) will significantly
reduce the need for manual recovery should a data base operation be
interrupted by a systems failure. With the addition of the Database
Client Application Enabler Distributed Feature for the Database
Server version of Extended Services, workstations choosing the
NETBIOS protocol for LAN access to remote data bases and not
requiring a local data base, need only install the Distributed
Feature and data base applications over their OS/2 base operating
system. This client/server implementation reduces the hardware
resources required at the workstation. The Extended Services for
OS/2 version provides support for DOS, DOS Windows or OS/2 NETBIOS
applications only for the workstation upon which the program product
is installed. Finally, both versions of Extended Services can
support read/write access to DB2, SQL/DS (TM) or OS/400 host data
bases via the IBM SAA Distributed Database Connection Services/2
Version 1.0 product.
IBM DOS and OS/2 data base clients and server workstations may
coexist on a network with NetWare LAN requesters and servers. In
addition, NetWare LAN requesters or servers may be installed on the
same workstation as the OS/2 data base client or server.

SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT
COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER: Extended Services communications has been
enhanced to include a System/370 (TM) Remote Operations Facility for
NetView (R) and Router. This will allow host-based central
administration of a workstation via commands initiated from the
NetView console or automatically via CLISTs or REXX execs. Any
command line-based noninteractive OS/2 command may be remotely
invoked. Also, for host CICS APPC applications involving Extended
Services workstations, "persistent verification" is offered to
provide ID checking with improved security. Finally, APPN networking
imported from Networking Services/2 allows much easier configuration
and reconfiguration of a workstation on a wide area network (WAN).

Corporation.
DATABASE MANAGER: The addition of First Failure Support Technology/2
(FFST/2) provides better support for data base applications with
logging of error and pertinent error information used for problem
resolution. Logging is done automatically at the time of error
occurrence, thereby minimizing the need for customers to duplicate
error scenarios. Database Tools are a set of Presentation Manager
(R) windowed application tools for Extended Services that provide a
graphical user interface for users to manage their data bases and
data base directories, and to configure an Extended Services data
base workstation.

USER PRODUCTIVITY
The speed of installation has been improved by the use of a popular
data compression/decompression algorithm.
The LAN transport layer has been re-written to improve
performance. Both the IEEE 802.2 and NETBIOS protocol stacks are
new. This allows all applications, including Extended Services
communications and data base applications, to benefit from enhanced
performance across supported LANs. Also, revised APPC support,
incorporated from NS/2, provides speedier processing for APPC
applications, particularly across a LAN.
Extended Services offers new function designed to improve the
productivity from both the communications and data base applications.
COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER: Enhancements include the addition of long
file names for file transfers, an increased number of simultaneously
active workstations through a SNA gateway, and better SNA gateway LU
pooling to improve session accessibility. In addition, 3270 EHLLAPI
has been enhanced to allow multiple applications to run
simultaneously. A window for the 5250 Workstation Feature has been
incorporated to allow easier manipulation of 5250 applications. 5250
configuration and installation has been improved by a simplification
of the procedure and revised publications. Configuration and
installation productivity have been improved for the systems
administrator by replacing the Batch Configuration Utility with
programmable configuration support. This is achieved via an
extension to the REXX/SAA language to allow programmed manipulation
of configuration files.
DATABASE MANAGER: An SQL command line interface has been added to
provide users familiar with SQL the ability to enter SQL statements
to access LAN- and host-based data bases directly from the OS/2
command line. This permits quick entry into Extended Services data
base functions without having to use a programming language or
complex user interface. This same interface also can be used to
access host data through the IBM SAA Distributed Database Connection
Services/2 Version 1.0 program product. For improved performance,
Remote Data Services will support NETBIOS as well as the APPC
protocol. The SQL LAN-only option (SQLLOO) provided in OS/2 EE will
not be offered with Extended Services, although an Extended Services
data base server will support Extended Edition's SQLLOO clients.
OS/2 EE SQLLOO clients will be reconfigured to NETBIOS when the
workstation is upgraded to Extended Services.
GROWTH ENABLEMENT
The IBM Operating System/2 Version 2.0 is a key component of IBM's
software strategy for the enterprise. In conjunction with its
companion products such as Extended Services, it will meet the
requirements for:
o An SAA environment -- through the use of SAA Common User Access
(TM) (CUA (TM)), Common Programming Interface (CPI) and Common
Communications Support (CCS) elements.
o An Open Environment -- through support of a variety of networking
and other open standards providing multivendor interoperability,
and through support of non-IBM 386SX and higher hardware
platforms.
Extended Services will be perceived as a follow on and
enhancement to OS/2 EE. Extended Services provides many of the
enhancements requested by Extended Edition customers.
Extended Services can be installed over IBM's 16-bit OS/2 SE
Version 1.3 (Refresh Level 1.30.1) or can replace the communications
and data base functions of the OS/2 EE Version 1.3 when upgraded to
Refresh Level 1.30.1 or later. It may also be installed on selected
non-IBM versions of the OS/2 16-bit operating system. Extended
Services is also compatible with IBM OS/2 Version 2.0. Extended
Services runs in the OS/2 Version 2.0 32-bit environment as a 16-bit
application.
The addition of support for the industry standard NDIS
interface provides an opportunity for both IBM and non-IBM vendors to
exploit the presence of Extended Services by offering support for new
protocols and higher-performing adapters, such as the IBM Token-Ring
and Ethernet DMA adapters, in a more straight-forward manner. The
availability of a standard NDIS interface makes the process of
developing and supporting function running across the interface
simpler and more open.
Extended Services will support 32-bit OS/2 applications
created by the IBM C Set/2 Version 1.0 compiler. This will allow
32-bit applications to call the Extended Services 16-bit Application
Programming Interfaces (APIs).
(TM) Trademark of International Business Machines Corporation.
BUSINESS SOLUTIONS
Extended Services provides customers with a single-vendor data base
and communications solutions that address IBM, non-IBM or multivendor
environments. Support for industry standards such as NDIS and APPN
substantially increase the potential base upon which Extended
Services applications can be written. The addition of new SQL
functions, such as date and time arithmetic and scaler functions, now
provides greater compliance to SAA SQL Level 1 for most data base
environments.
Support for IBM SAA Distributed Database Connection Services/2
Version 1.0 provides an opportunity for users to access DB2, SQL/DS
or OS/400 host data, for single users or for LAN connected
workstations, through a shared DDCS/2 server.

MODEMS: Extended Services supports currently available IBM modems,
both synchronous modems for Synchronous Data Link Control (SDLC)
connections and asynchronous modems for asynchronous connections.
Non-IBM asynchronous modems are also supported, as well as the
base function of CCITT V.24 (EIA RS232D) standard data terminal
equipment (DTE) to data circuit-terminating equipment (DCE) interface
for asynchronous communications.
X.25 users will require a synchronous connection to the link
access protocol balanced (LAPB) link. Consult your network supplier
for the recommended connection type and modem.
PRINTERS AND PLOTTERS: Printing and plotting for Extended Services
is undertaken by the base operating system. For details, refer to
the documentation for the operating system being used.
o The Adobe type font interface is not supported within the
Database Query Manager.
o The Query Manager function does not use the operating system
printer driver information.
NON-IBM MODELS: The following are details for non-IBM hardware that
has been tested with Extended Services. Additional information
regarding Extended Services functions that are supported by non-IBM
hardware is available from the vendor or from IBM in the Extended
Services and OS/2 LAN Server 2.0 Vendor Integration Guide (S33F9404),
available from your IBM representative or IBM Authorized Dealer.
Non-IBM hardware limitations:
o IBM certification testing was completed using pre-release
versions of vendor operating system software. Extended Services
will be supported when those operating systems are made available
by the hardware vendor.
o When determining the memory configurations of your system, refer
to the Extended Services Information and Planning Guide and to
your non-IBM hardware vendor for adjustments that may be unique
to that vendor's device drivers and software.
o IBM makes no claims for printers used in vendor compatibility
testing.
o IBM will support vendor hardware running non-IBM equivalents to
the IBM OS/2 SE Version 1.3 Refresh Level 1.30.1 or later.
Customers requiring an upgrade to their present OS/2 should refer
questions to their hardware vendor.
o Customers must consult their hardware vendor for information,
warranty and support for communications adapters and devices
installed on their machines.
o Asynchronous communications are not supported on NCR Model
PC386sx/MC20.
The above list represents all limitations discovered in IBM
testing of vendor hardware to date. Subsequent testing may reveal
additional restrictions. Customers should contact their IBM
representative or hardware vendor for more information. A "Read Me"
file containing additional information will also be provided with
Extended Services.

EXTENDED SERVICES SUPPORT FOR NON-IBM ENVIRONMENTS: Certification of
Extended Services for non-IBM hardware and software can occur in two
ways. IBM and some selected vendors have certified Extended Services
through mutual testing. Other vendors have elected to certify their
hardware through self-testing using an Extended Services Test Kit
available from IBM. In some instances, IBM and vendors from both
certifying environments will have entered cooperative service
arrangements that include education and agreements for problem
resolution. While IBM will provide problem support for Extended
Services for both of the aforementioned environments, customers may
be asked to refer problems that cannot be recreated on existing
supported hardware to vendors who are not covered by a cooperative
service arrangement.

LIMITATIONS:
GENERAL LIMITATIONS
o For Database and Communications Managers, file system extended
attributes are not supported.
o For Database Manager, long file names are not supported.
o The 122 key keyboard, optionally available for some PS/2 models,
is not supported.
COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER LIMITATIONS
Communications are constrained by both hardware and software
limitations. The following sections summarize those limitations.
o Line Speeds
Because multitasking may involve more than one program
communicating at one time, the line speeds that are supported are
for the aggregate of communications taking place on the supported
line. Communications Manager supports the following line speeds
for supported networks:
- Up to 19.2KB per second on SDLC connections
- Up to 19.2KB per second on asynchronous connections using the
Communications Manager ASCII emulator
- Up to 64KB per second on asynchronous connections using ACDI
in conjunction with the DMA capabilities of the asynchronous
communications ports on supported models of the PS/2
- Up to 19.2KB per second on an X.25 connection using
X.21bis/V.24
- Up to 56KB per second on an X.25 connection using
X.21bis/V.35
- Up to 64KB per second on an X.25 connection using X.21
- Up to 16MB/second on an IBM Token-Ring Network.
CONCURRENT COMMUNICATION LIMITATIONS
When operating in a multitasking communication
environment, the following situations apply:
- The number of supported LAN adapters per workstation is
limited to a maximum of four (for IBM Token-Ring Network*,
ETHERAND Network and IBM PC Network). Note that the 3270 and
5250 emulators, and also APPC applications, use the
Communications Manager that has access to adapters #0 and #1
only; whereas applications written to the NETBIOS or 802.2
interfaces may use any of the four.
* Includes COAX-attached workstations using 3174 Peer
Communications.
- If an IBM Token-Ring Adapter and an IBM PS/2 Display Adapter
are installed in an IBM Personal Computer AT or an IBM
Industrial Computer (7522, 7531, or 7532), do not set the
jumper switches on the IBM Token-Ring Adapter to use
addresses X'CA000" through X'CA7FF". The IBM PS/2 Display
Adapter uses these addresses.
- An IBM PC Network and an ETHERAND Network cannot be used
concurrently.
- Only one Ungermann-Bass card and only one Western Digital
card can be installed, but either one can be combined with
one other LAN adapter.
- Interrupt levels also must be considered when multiple
adapters are used simultaneously since some adapters use the
same interrupt.
- If an IBM 3270 Connection DFT adapter and an IBM System/36 or
System/38 Workstation Emulation Adapter/A are installed in a
PS/2 workstation, the IBM 3270 Connection DFT adapter must
reside in a lower-numbered slot. For example, the 3270
Connection adapter can reside in slot 0 and the System/36 or
System/38 Adapter/A can reside in slot 4.
- Only one 3278/3279 emulation adapter per IBM PC is supported.
- A maximum of two IBM 3270 Connection (DFT) adapters can be
used for each IBM Personal System/2 computer.
- On an IBM PC AT system, the SDLC device driver cannot be used
at the same time as the OS/2 mouse device driver or the
asynchronous device driver.
- An SDLC adapter cannot be used concurrently with an
asynchronous adapter on the IBM PC AT, the IBM Personal
System/2 Model 30 286, or the Personal Computer XT (TM)
Model 286.
- A maximum of one SDLC adapter can be used for each IBM
Personal Computer XT Model 286 or IBM Personal Computer AT.
- A maximum of two IBM Personal System/2 Multiprotocol Adapters
can be initialized for SDLC.
- A maximum of two IBM PS/2 Multiprotocol Adapter/A (SDLC,
asynchronous) can be used on a PS/2 computer, except for the
Model 30 286, which does not support this adapter.
- A maximum of three IBM Personal System/2 Multiprotocol
Adapters can be initialized for asynchronous communication.
- The PS/2 Multiprotocol Adapter/A (SDLC, asynchronous) must be
initialized using the PS/2 Installation Setup program. When
more than one adapter is being installed, there are specific
DMA channels, called "arbitration levels" by the setup
program, that must be assigned to the primary and alternate
adapters to prevent failures. The SDLC primary adapter,
called SDLC 1 during setup, should always be configured using
arbitration level 1. The SDLC alternate adapter, called SDLC
2 during setup, should be configured using arbitration level
7. Be sure to avoid another arbitration level that might be
in conflict with other installed adapters.
- Only one ASCII terminal emulation session (either IBM 3101 or
DEC VT100) can be active at a time. However, an ASCII
terminal emulation session can be used concurrently with
other Asynchronous Communications Device Interface (ACDI)
asynchronous or with non-asynchronous emulation programs.
- Only one IBM System/36 or System/38 Workstation Emulation
Adapter/A can be installed in a PS/2 workstation.
- A maximum of one Enhanced 5250 Display Station Emulation
Adapter for the IBM PC AT can be installed.
- A Token-Ring/A 16/4 Bus Master and a PC Network Adapter/A
will not configure in a Model 95.
- When running with the IBM OS/2 SE Version 1.3 Refresh level
1.30.1, under heavy file handling workloads, file handling
capability may be exceeded that causes non-activation of
adapters. This limitation is removed in OS/2 SE Version 1.3
Refresh Level 1.30.2.
ASYNCHRONOUS COMMUNICATIONS
Asynchronous communications are subject to the following
constraints:
- A maximum of two asynchronous ports on the IBM PC AT system
and the Model 30 286 are supported. Users can have a maximum
of three asynchronous ports on the other supported PS/2
computers.
- Interrupt levels also must be considered when multiple
adapters are used simultaneously, since some adapters use the
same interrupt levels. For example, an asynchronous adapter
cannot be used concurrently with an SDLC adapter on the PC AT
or IBM PS/2 Model 30 286 system, because both adapters use
hardware interrupt levels 3 and 4. This limitation does not
exist on other supported PS/2 systems, because they can share
hardware interrupt levels.
If both adapters are installed, users must maintain
two copies of the CONFIG.SYS file, one for each device driver
environment. In addition, users must restart their system
using the required file, renamed to CONFIG.SYS, to load the
appropriate device before trying to start ASCII or 3270
terminal emulation (SDLC).
- Asynchronous terminal emulation does not support different
receive and transmit speeds.
- Half-duplex modems and attachments are not supported.
- The CCITT V.25bis recommendations are implemented in
Communications Manager for handling control signals at the
COM port. Most modems support this standard.
- The DMA ASYNC capability requires OS/2 SE 1.3 Version 1.30.2
or later for support by Extended Services Communications
Manager.
X.25 SUPPORT
For X.25 communications, limitations are as follows:
- If enough system resources are available, a maximum of 128
permanent virtual circuits (PVCs) or switched virtual
circuits (SVCs), including up to 64 PVCs, can be defined on
each of these links. Communications Manager supports
concurrent use of a total of 128 of the defined virtual
circuits.
- Additional constraints on the maximum number of virtual
circuits depend on factors such as the selected packet and
packet window sizes.
- Concurrent connection is supported on up to eight X.25 links
by the X.25 API. Each link requires a separate IBM X.25
Interface Coprocessor/2 adapter. Consequently, the actual
number of links is also limited by the number of adapters
that can be installed.
- Extended Services does not support the online facility
registration packet retransmission, the level 2 multilink
procedures, or the datagram service (which was withdrawn in
the 1984 recommendations).
- If enough system resources are available, up to 40 X.25
applications can run concurrently, one of which normally
supports the higher level SNA applications, and the remainder
can be used for non-SNA applications. However, this single
X.25 SNA application can itself support multiple concurrent
SNA applications, such as applications written to the higher
level SNA APIs of Communications Manager.
- A user application using the IBM Realtime Interface
Co-Processor: Operating System/2 Support program may not run
on an IBM X.25 Interface Co-Processor/2 adapter concurrently
with Communications Manager X.25 support. Users must set the
IBM X.25 Interface Co-Processor/2 adapter to use hardware
Interrupt Request 11 (IRQ11). The default is Interrupt
Request 7 (IRQ7). IRQ7 can interfere with a printer attached
to a parallel port of the workstation. Follow the
instructions in the documentation provided with the PS/2
reference diskette.
- IBM Extended Services does not support an SNA connection to
an IBM Series/1 host computer.
IBM 3101 TERMINAL EMULATION
Communications Manager supports emulation of the IBM 3101
Display Terminal Model 20, but does not support the following
functions of the IBM 3101 terminal:
- Half-duplex modem operation
- Reverse channel and controlled request to send
- Reverse video for entire screen (operator-selectable)
- Non-blinking cursor
- Program mode and, as a result, the PGM MODE and ATTR keys
- Local mode
- Transparent mode
- Print line function
- Print message function
- Print page function
- Write send mark function.
DEC VT100 TERMINAL EMULATION
The DEC VT100 printer emulation supports only the print
screen function.
When received from the host computer, the following VT100
Terminal controls are ignored or partially supported, as
indicated:
- Auto repeat mode
- 132-column mode command (partially supported: screen
cleared, cursor moved to home position)
- Double height line
- Double width line
- Scrolling mode (smooth and jump)
- Line feed/new line mode
- Screen alignment display
- Request/report terminal parameters
- Enter VT52 mode
- Interlace mode
- Invoke confidence test
- Set character set (supported only for the U.S., U.K., and the
VT100 special graphics character sets as best represented
with the PC character set).
IBM 3270 TERMINAL EMULATION
A maximum of five 3270 sessions per connectivity type and
a maximum of ten per system are allowed.
Commonly used functions of the IBM 3274 and 3174 control
units are supported with the exception of:
- APL/text character set
- Katakana
- IBM 3278 typewriter keyboard
- Certain IBM 3278/79 keys: click, highlight selection keys
(blinking, program symbols), ident
- Magnetic stripe reader
- Mono/dual case switch
- Network Management Vector Transport (NMVT) alerts
- Security keylock
- Selector light pen
- Mouse
- Field validation with numeric field support.
In addition to the previously mentioned restrictions, the
following features and capabilities of the IBM 3274 and 3174
control units are not supported when the DFT communications
attachment is used:
- Data base operations
- IBM 3270 diagnostic reset dump
- Dump facility
- Patch facility
- Response time monitor.
IBM 5250 WORKSTATION FEATURE
The IBM 5250 Workstation Feature (WSF) is subject to the
following limitations:
- A maximum of five 5250 WSF sessions (any combination of
display station and printer sessions) on each workstation.
Support is for System/36 and AS/400 hosts only.
- Twinaxial connection to an AS/400 host:
-- Twinaxial sessions connect to a single host.
-- One station address is required to provide up to five
5250 WSF sessions.
SYSTEM/370 REMOTE OPERATIONS SUPPORT (ROPS) FOR NETVIEW
When a RUNCMD is issued, all information including the ID
and password are transmitted in the clear and are not secured in
any way. They are also displayed on the screen and entered into
the NetView log. If passwords are transmitted to the ROPS
service, the user is responsible for securing the NetView
terminal and its NetView logs so that sensitive data is not
compromised.
3174 PEER COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT (WITH APPROPRIATELY
CONFIGURED AND SUPPORTED 3174S)
- The COAX link has a significantly lower data transfer rate
than a 4MB Token-Ring and it is recommended that Server,
Gateways, etc. should not be located at a COAX-attached
workstation.
- In some situations, with a high volume of broadcast frames,
it is possible that the 3174 controller may discard some of
these frames, causing application time-outs to occur. Tuning
of retry counts and time-out values may alleviate this
condition.
- The support uses a unique Media Access Control (MAC) layer
function. Applications written to the IEEE 802.2 or NETBIOS
interfaces are unaffected, but those specific to the
Token-Ring MAC layer (IEEE 802.5) are not supported.
- COAX-attached workstations may not be used as APPN network
nodes, nor can they be used as bridges to a Token-Ring LAN.
- 3174 Peer Communications is not supported with the 3278/79
Emulation Adapter (1602507).
- Persistent Verification -- PV Receive is not supported; PV
Send is supported.
- EHLLAPI/REXX -- structured fields are not supported.
OTHER
- The SNA physical unit (PU) 2.0 attached through the IBM
Token-Ring Network or SDLC can be supported on a single host
through an IBM 37XX.
- With the SNA LAN gateway, the workstation appears to the host
as one physical unit (PU2.0) and allows one physical link to
the host. Up to 256 workstations can be configured, but a
recommended maximum of 128 should be concurrently active.
Only dependent-logical units (LUs 1, 2, 3, and 6.2) are
supported through the gateway.
- The family API does not include Communications Manager and
Database Manager functions.
DATABASE MANAGER
o The Adobe type font interface is not supported within the Query
Manager menus.
o The Query Manager function does not use the operating system
printer driver information.
o Remote Data Access to DB/2, SQL/DS and OS/400 data bases using
the IBM SAA Distributed Database Connection Services/2
Version 1.0 (RFA 18472) is only supported through the Database
Manager Command Line Interface (CLI) or through an application
program.
o Roll-forward recovery is not supported within the Query Manager.
A prompted interface to roll-forward recovery function is
provided in the separately installable Database Tools.
o SQL date/time arithmetic and scalar functions cannot be performed
within Query Manager. They are supported within SQL statements,
within application programs and through the Database Manager CLI.
o Administrative functions previously executed through Query
Manager Tools and System pulldowns have been moved to Database
Tools. Functions in Query Manager are import/export run stats,
reorg, operational status, manage authorizations, restore
defaults, and open/erase printer name.

PERFORMANCE CONSIDERATIONS: Performance considerations are addressed
in the IBM Extended Services Information and Planning Guide. Contact
your IBM representative, dealer or remarketer for details.
PLANNING INFORMATION
CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES: IBM representatives, dealers, remarketers
and customers should become familiar with the Extended Services
Information and Planning Guide for assistance in determining which of
its Communications Manager and Database Manager functions best
address their business needs. This guide, which is available from
IBM, provides substantial, additional information pertaining to
function, installation requirements, application program development
and performance considerations.
Problem determination (PD) is a customer responsibility. PD
is an assessment of whether a problem has been caused by hardware or
software, and is not complete until the cause of the problem is
identified. This assessment includes examination of available
symptoms using the PS/PSI procedures documented in the publications.
Problem Source Identification (PSI) is a customer
responsibility. PSI begins when software is determined to be the
source of the problem. PSI includes tracing the source of the
problem to a host System Control Program (SCP), a program product or
another source. Assisting the customer with PSI is an IBM
service/support responsibility.
PACKAGING: IBM Extended Services is shipped on 3.5-inch (1.44MB)
dual-sided diskettes or 5.25-inch (1.2MB) dual-sided diskettes with
end-user publications (basic package) or end-user and administrator's
publications (administrator's package).
SECURITY, AUDITABILITY AND CONTROL
Security features are the same as provided by the OS/2
Extended Edition Version 1.3 Communications and Database Managers
with the following exception. If using the System/370 Remote
Operations Support (ROPS) for NetView, when a RUNCMD is issued all
information including the ID and password are transmitted in the
clear and are not secured in any way. They are also displayed on the
screen and entered into the NetView log. If passwords are
transmitted to the ROPS service, the user is responsible for securing
the NetView terminal and its NetView logs so that sensitive data is
not compromised.
User management is responsible for evaluation, selection and
implementation of security features, administrative procedures and
appropriate controls in application systems and communication
facilities.
