OS2 A WINNER IN THE UK! BEST DESKTOP OPERATING SYSTEM
December 17, 1993
At the Annual PC Magazine Technical Innovation Awards held at
Mosimann's Club in London, IBM's 32-bit, pre-emptive multitasking
operating system - OS/2 2.1 was the overall winner in the Best Desktop
Operating System Category. OS/2 2.1 beat all other nominations
including Microsoft's Windows NT 3.1 and MS-DOS 6.0 as well as Solaris
for x86 to take the coveted award.
PC Magazine's editor-in-chief, Tony Westbrook, presented the award to
IBM's PSP marketing manager, Pat James, describing OS/2 as "a
staggering technical achievement", and paid special tribute to many of
OS/2's stunning features such as improved support for Windows enhanced
mode applications.
This award is the second accolade to be given to OS/2 in a month. At
the Comdex Exhibition in Las Vegas in November this year, for the
second consecutive year, OS/2 was awarded PC Computing's (USA)
prestigious Most Valuable Product Award in the Systems Software
category - again beating Windows NT 3.1 and also Novell's DOS 7.0.
Commenting on both these awards, IBM UK's software director, Dave
Pullin, said, "We are honoured to receive both these prestigious
awards and are delighted with the recognition of OS/2 as the
technically superior operating system for desktop applications. UK
sales confirm the rapidly increasing acceptance of OS/2 as simply the
superior choice in operating systems".
