  1. IBM ANNOUNCES PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION PROGRAM FOR OS/2 AND LAN
  2. SERVER PRODUCTS

  6.      AUSTIN, Texas, September 21, 1993 . . . IBM today announced
  7. the Professional Certification Program from IBM, a skills
  8. development offering for its OS/2* and LAN Server products.  To
  9. gain certification, individuals complete a series of tests to
  10. demonstrate their proficiency in supporting selected products
  11. from IBM's Personal Software Products group.
  12.  
  13.      "In today's competitive environment, customers want to
  14. ensure that software professionals who provide service and
  15. support are thoroughly qualified," says Tom Kendra, director of
  16. customer support for IBM's PSP.  "The new Professional
  17. Certification Program from IBM allows them to show the competency
  18. and skill level they have reached for OS/2 and LAN Server."

  20.      To save time and money while preparing for LAN Server
  21. certification, IBM will offer credit for certification obtained
  22. from Novell.  In addition, once a candidate is certified by IBM,
  23. credits can be applied toward other PSP certifications (listed
  24. below).  Individuals, rather than organizations, can receive
  25. certification in the following areas:
  26.      * Certified OS/2 Engineer
  27.      Provides the skills to support OS/2 installations and
  28.      develop expertise in fine-tuning and customizing OS/2
  29.      platform systems.
  30.      * Certified OS/2 Instructor
  31.      Helps candidates teach certified OS/2 engineers through
  32.      extensive training and testing.
  33.      * Certified LAN Server Engineer
  34.      Provides service and support skills for LAN Server networks,
  35.      including network design, performance tuning and
  36.      installation.
  37.      * Certified LAN Server Administrator
  38.      Develops the skills necessary to support day-to-day network
  39.      operations, such as backing up the server, maintaining
  40.      security and installing applications.
  41.      * Certified LAN Server Instructor
  42.      Enables participants to teach certified LAN Server engineers
  43.      and LAN Server administrators through extensive training and
  44.      testing.

  46.      Certification testing is administered by Drake Training and
  47. Technologies, a worldwide provider of certification testing in
  48. the computer industry.  Classroom education is offered through
  49. the extensive network of Skill Dynamics, IBM's training and
  50. education company, and IBM Licensed Education Center locations
  51. around the country.
