IBM ANNOUNCES PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION PROGRAM FOR OS/2 AND LAN
SERVER PRODUCTS
September 24, 1993
AUSTIN, Texas, September 21, 1993 . . . IBM today announced
the Professional Certification Program from IBM, a skills
development offering for its OS/2* and LAN Server products. To
gain certification, individuals complete a series of tests to
demonstrate their proficiency in supporting selected products
from IBM's Personal Software Products group.
"In today's competitive environment, customers want to
ensure that software professionals who provide service and
support are thoroughly qualified," says Tom Kendra, director of
customer support for IBM's PSP. "The new Professional
Certification Program from IBM allows them to show the competency
and skill level they have reached for OS/2 and LAN Server."
To save time and money while preparing for LAN Server
certification, IBM will offer credit for certification obtained
from Novell. In addition, once a candidate is certified by IBM,
credits can be applied toward other PSP certifications (listed
below). Individuals, rather than organizations, can receive
certification in the following areas:
* Certified OS/2 Engineer
Provides the skills to support OS/2 installations and
develop expertise in fine-tuning and customizing OS/2
platform systems.
* Certified OS/2 Instructor
Helps candidates teach certified OS/2 engineers through
extensive training and testing.
* Certified LAN Server Engineer
Provides service and support skills for LAN Server networks,
including network design, performance tuning and
installation.
* Certified LAN Server Administrator
Develops the skills necessary to support day-to-day network
operations, such as backing up the server, maintaining
security and installing applications.
* Certified LAN Server Instructor
Enables participants to teach certified LAN Server engineers
and LAN Server administrators through extensive training and
testing.
Certification testing is administered by Drake Training and
Technologies, a worldwide provider of certification testing in
the computer industry. Classroom education is offered through
the extensive network of Skill Dynamics, IBM's training and
education company, and IBM Licensed Education Center locations
around the country.
