USING AND CUSTOMIZING OS/2 2.1

Description:
This course teaches you how to use the basic features of OS/2 2.1.
You will work with objects in the Workplace Shell. Among other
topics, the course includes installing, migrating and running
applications. Additionally, you will be taught to customize several
parameters of the operating system, including what applications you
want started when the system is booted. After completing the course,
you should be able to answer questions other users may have on the
Workplace Shell. This course is taught using interactive
demonstrations and hands-on practice sessions.
Audience:
This course is designed for people who will be installing and
running applications on an OS/2 2.1 workstation as well as printing
output. The course is also appropriate for people who will be
supporting other OS/2 2.1 users or who want to customize their own
workstations. This course is similar to OS/2 2.1 User Workshop
(P1069), but examines OS/2 in more detail. Some of the additional
topics include examining key system files, installing and migrating
applications, and using program-reference objects as well as
providing additional individual practice time.
Objectives:
After completing this course, you should be able to:
- Describe the Workplace Shell
- Explain the functions of key OS/2 2.1 system files
- Find objects on your system
- Open and close objects
- Use different views of objects
- Move, copy, delete, and create shadows of objects
- Rename objects
- Resize, maximize, hide, and restore windows
- Lock the Desktop and shut down the computer
- Find and use command prompts
- Format a diskette
- Use the online help facilities
- Install and migrate applications
- Run applications and transfer data between applications
- Associate data files and applications
- Specify applications to be started when the system is booted
- Create and modify program-reference objects
- Print documents, and manage print jobs
- Change colors, schemes, system defaults, and mouse speeds
Prerequisites:
Before taking this course, you should be able to identify the basic
components of a computer including diskettes, the hard disk, the
keyboard and the mouse.
