I have not seen that to be the case. Until I recently moved to a crummy
phone section of town, :) I could consistently download at 53K, verified
by InJoy and several other programs that monitor the port. I have never
done anything to alter my comm port speeds. YMMV I guess.

56K connections are one way, which is download. Uploads still only go at
28.8K, more or less.
Twisted copper can handle megabits of data, but not over a standard modem.
DSL 'modems' can use copper for huge transmission speeds.

Get the file b100.zip and unzip it. Then run e and read the
instructions. I installed it and now my Warp 3 system is running FP 42!

Except the monitor will not work with a horiz freq less than 59Khz. I
used the Dos adjust display routine to scale things both ways and found
the range of the Monitor was 59-82.89Khz

Actually works with Win9x !! Seems that OS2 has hard coded a set
frequency and no one seems to give enough insight to indicate how to
get it adjusted to higher levels like Win9x seems to handle.

Great Idea, except I tried it already 3 times. Each time the install
refused to install the Savage drivers because the video chip wasnt the
right one. ( It was the plain generic VGA chip )

This is the last thing I can think of suggesting. Change the
monitor to some generic no-name kind of VGA monitor,
program the Savage4 to standard VGA, install the drivers
and, after that, change back to your own monitor, and
re-program the card to the higher frequency.
AFAIK the VGA drivers must be initializing the card to the
standard VGA video mode. This would imply the 31.5 Khz
frequency. So the only thing you can do is use a monitor
that will work at that frequency.

Subj: Embedded OS/2 system
From: "Joseph Fletcher III" <jfletche@popstar.com>
I am trying to create an embedded system that uses OS/2 as an operating
system. Although IBM states that a high percentage of ATM machines and
other embedded systems use OS/2, I haven't been able to run (boot up) OS/2
on a system where the video hardware has been removed.
I am using a AMPRO platform CoreModule/4DXi which as BIOS created for use as
an embedded system - so I don't think that the problem is in the POST
routine. I believe the the system is crapping out somewhere during the
processing of the config.sys, but since the file is processed
"non-linearly" I'm not sure where the problem device driver is. Could it be
the PM itself that has a problem starting in the "headless" configuration.
Any ideas?

Hello,
I have installed the basic Warp 4.0 frist before installing TCP/IP service
in my box (I always has problem when install the basic system and TCP/IP in
the same time). I have all the program icon as usual. But when I try to run
anyone of these TCP/IP program, it always prompt for incorrect path. Then I
try to run them from the OS/2 command prompt. An error says that it cannot
find SETLOC1. I want to know what is this and how can I install it from the
CD.
Thank you very much!

SETLOC1.DLL is part of the I18 code that is installed by
MPTS (Multiple Protocol Transport Services) that includes
the TCP/IP stack and NETBIOS protocols.
You have to install MPTS for this, then install the TCP/IP
code.

IIRC, the embedded OS/2 used on ATM's is based on OS/2 v1.x and
does not include the presentation manager.

Can you use the "Alt-F2" keypress at boot time to display the
drivers as they load?

I remember you can modify config.sys so that the shell become cmd.exe (or
whatever such as 4OS2 etc) instead of PMSHELL or WPS. But I think some more
driver needed to remove from the file as well. I used to disable the PM in
V1.2

ATM's have a video system, and I have never seen one that even looks
like it might be using the Presentation Manager, or the Workplace
Shell. They just boot to the command line, and run a program, which
handles the video etc. I suspect that most embedded systems don't use
PM, or WPS, just to avoid the overhead, and potential problems, of the
GUI interface.
I believe, you will need to have a video adapter (a fairly basic
<cheap> one, should do), running in VGA mode, possibly with the BIOS
set to run without a display attached (same for keyboard, if that
applies).
Hope this helps...

I have the ST8000N and use it with Novaback. It works great, I usually get
about 38MB/min
with it. You MUST get a cleaner kit, though, and use it every few backups. I
let my drive get dirty and had to use three swabs on it just to do a full
restore.
Backmaster 2 should support the drive, but I dumped them a while ago because
the program
was so slow. Novaback is nice because they include Windows and OS/2 versions
in the same box.

Maybe the STT8000N is compatible with some drive that is officially
supported. In any case, Seagate Backup Exec v3.0 (file dates
are 10/31/96) *does* work with that tape drive.

This is not universally true. My system has an LS-120 as drive
A with no real floppies installed, and I was able to install
Warp4 and can quite happily boot from an LS-120 disk created by
BOOTOS2. I did have problems with the install until I read a
post that said that the "BASEDEV=IBMATAPI.FLT" statement had to
be the last device statement in config.sys. When I made that
change, the install proceeded without problems. I have no idea
why this should make a difference, but it did in my case.
All that's left on my wishlist for the LS-120 is for the
restriction on creating PM or WPS setups with BOOTOS2 on drive
A be relaxed ( Ken? ).

Can someone direct me to where I can get JavaOs2? I recently did a re-install

I may have to resort to doing this again. The last time I tried this
method I got the card in a goofy condition and could not reflash it to
the savage mode and had to send back to Mfgr. It may have just been a
failure at the inoppertune time. So..... a second try may work. I'm
just not sure if I want to risk having to send it in again, yet.

This has been dealt with in Jonathan de Boyne Pollard's excellent
OS2CLU02.ZIP
(on Hobbes and LEO). I quote from the excellent documentation:
"Here are some of the main features of the OS/2 Command Line Utilities.
Date and time support is fully internationalised. All of the
utilities that display dates and times do so by
default using the date and time formats appropriate to the
current country , but they can also be told to display
them in the standard format specified by ISO standard number
8601, which uses a full 4-digit year and a fixed
descending order of fields to avoid the ambiguity that the
country-specific formats have for the first 31 years
of each century (e.g. 01/02/03).
Full timezone support is provided using the TZ environment
variable, which is in the standard POSIX 1003.1
(ISO/IEC 9445-1:1990) format, allowing multiple utilities to
operate simultaneously in different timezones with
different daylight savings time rules, which are applied
automatically at exactly the right point without need for
user intervention.
The local time, required by the ANACLOCK, DIGCLOCK, SAYDATE,
SETDATE, and TOUCH commands, can be
configured to be in any arbitrary timezone and use any daylight
savings time rules."
I am using the time utility and can report that it works as advertised.
My rollover at October 31 occurred without intervention and the next
correction I ran with Time868
showed a correction of 8 seconds which is about my usual time loss in 24
hours.
I have not had the time to play with the balance of this package much
but it seems to be of a uniform high quality.
Regards
Ian

What kind of graphic format have you use? I have had the same problem
as you with uncompressed or not so good compressed graphic formats
like Tiff, Targa or Bitmap. If I use a good compressed graphics format
like jpeg, gif or png the print is done very fast. I think the print
time is depentent from the graphic file size.
I have the problems only if I print text documents with graphics, if I
print graphics only I have no problems.

Yes, it is eminantly possible. I have built several embedded OS/2 systems that
are sans video system (all output going to LCD screen via parallel port.).
Simply replace the PROTSHELL in the config.sys with PROTSHELL=<Your program>.

I have looked at this, but did not get too far into it.
Question: When you use this package, with the clock set to UCT (GMT),
I understand that the OS2CLU programs use the time ofset etc., but
what time is returned to other programs (Word processors, database
etc.)?
Thanks...

Just looked. It IS there, along with the Feature installer 1.25,
required to install it. It is under the "IBM OS/2 Warp Develper Kit,
Java(TM) Technology Edition, Version 1.1.8" heading. You only need
the runtime part, unless you are planning to develop JAVA programs.
Hope this helps...

Solved the problem anyway by making sure that the NIC adapter driver was
bound first this ensures that the MAC address is used by the other drivers.
Anything else that binds with this driver also uses the MAC address.

oh! 20 megs to just run Java?
Also, who or what is doing the java job now? without downloading that
thing? Inotherwords how can I find out if any Java is brewing on my
system, and what version it might be? what is netscape talking about when
it says "unsupported Java version" ? could it have snuck in with a fixpak?
Or is there a micro java plugin to netscape? do I have my terms scrambled
again 8/) ?

Subj: Warp 4.0 install tactics
From: rcambra@tpg.com.au (User)
Hi all. I need help with Warp 4.0 and its installer. I D/L'ed the
latest device driver from IBM's Device Driver site to update the
install floppies so that they recognize hard drives bigger than 8 Gb.
Now my 6.4 Gb hard drive looks like this:-
PARTITION 1: FAT16 DOS622 830Mb
PARTITION 2: FAT32 WIN 98 2.0GB
6X CD-ROM Primary Master
6.4Gb HDD Secondary Master
LS-120 FDD Primary Slave (as yet not connected)
The rest of the 3.0Gb-something freespace is idle. My question is
this; does Warp have to installed first (i.e in the first 1Gb of the
drive) because of the 1024 cylinder limit? Or can it be anywhere in
the freespace of the drive? I was told by a few others that Warp needs
to be in the first gig of hard drive space. Also, can the partition
where Warp is installed be bigger than 1Gb or what? That's my other
query. I'm asking all of this because I've been tearing my hair out
trying to get Warp installed. A few others have done it successfully,
so what's the deal with me? If anyone can assist me, offer some sane
advice or a copy of their Warp 4.0 install floppies , I would be
extremely grateful. Thanks all for reading. CYA!!!

I have had this problem before: it usually was usually the result of
a bad or problem install.
With out re-installing here is what I did.
1. Checked to see if the if SETLOC1.dll is/was on the system, if it
was then the problem is in the config.sys, the directory where
SETLOC1.dll resides is not in the path specified by set libpath=.
Add it to the SET LIBPATH=, I believe it was x:\TCPIP\DLL, I am not
at the OS/2 machine right now.
2. If the dll does not exist on the system, then you will have to
add/install TCPIP.
This can be done by getting out the CD and from the CD run "install"
or setup". This will bring up the networking and TCPIP installation
program.
From here its fairly straight forward, just pick the options you want
and the rest will done/installed for you.
This PROBLEM of not finding SETLOC1.dll used to happen frequently
when I was still using my old 486 and I had to re-install OS/2
because of a drive crash and the install would go bad.

Subj: Win-OS/2 Print Manager Starts Automatically with Win-OS/2 - WHY?
From: "Christopher E. Souter" <csouter@yesnet.com.au>
Hi,everyone!
Does anyone know why Print Manager starts automatically
when Win-OS/2 starts up?
I have looked in all the usual places, such as the
StartUp group, the "load= " line in the WIN.INI file,
the SYSTEM.INI file, the PROGMAN.INI and the
CONTROL.INI files.
Print Manager is *NOT* in my StartUp group, and there
is *DEFINITELY* no reference to it in any of the
above-mentioned files.
Can anyone tell me what is causing it to start up every
time Win-OS/2 starts, and how I can stop it?
I am using a Windows printer driver which does not use
Print Manager, and I want to avoid conflicts.
I am using OS/2 Warp 4 (FullPack), with FixPak 9, but
this problem has existed since I installed Warp , i.e.,
before any FixPaks were applied.
Thanks in advance

Subj: True Type Fonts in Warp 4? HOW???
From: "Christopher E. Souter" <csouter@yesnet.com.au>
Hi, everybody!
I recently upgraded from Warp 3 to Warp 4.
One reason why I did this is because I understood that,
among other things, Warp 4 is supposed to support True
Type fonts.
However, I have searched all the online documentation
and I just can't find any reference to True Type fonts
anywhere.
So, how do you install them? Is it through the Font
Palette? Where do you find the True Type Fonts in a
standard Warp 4 system? How do you get the Font
Palette to recognise them?
Thenks in advance

Font Pallette -> Edit Font -> Add ..... and then select the fonts from the
source.

It is a "feature"!
To stop the Win-OS/2 Print Manager forever add the following to
the "[boot]" section of system.ini:
MAVDMAPPS=
Once that is done you won't be bothered by Print Manager again.

Wherever they are stored. The first place to look is in
x:\OS2\MDOS\WINOS2\SYSTEM. Windows dumps averything there. In the future
copy the font files to someplace of your own choosing, say, \TRUETYPE.
Open the Font Pallette, select Edit Font...->Add... . Type in the
path to the fonts.

Yes:
Add these two lines to the BOOT section of SYSTEM.INI
WAVDMAPPS=
MAVDMAPPS=
One of the both is already there, but I don't remember which.

Agreed that is arguably a more "logical" solution but the mainframe
"arena" has invitably a more "disciplined structure" born out of a far
longer history (and thus more mature) than the PC and you are
invariably running different OS's as "guests"(eg TSO,VM,CICS,IMS etc etc
all under MVS) and not constantly rebooting this type of "serious
hardware" into disparate OS's invidually!<g>.....
Furthermore as "mainframe" hardware clocks (and synchronisation) tween
local (and even remote) processor complexes is far more accurate and
sophisticated than PC equivalent, then in a mixed PC/mainframe
heterogenous network it is far easier to use various utilities to synch
PC servers (and optionally individual workstation clients) to the the
mainframe clock anyway....
In the SOHO PC scenario we have a high number of individual clients
whose only "networked" connection is often only via an indeterminate
remote dial-in capabilty running many individual disparate (and
sometimes multiple OS's) individually and whose TZ functionality may or
may not be fully POSIX compliant!
But then presumably directly working for a major (plug compatable)
mainframe hardware competitor to IBM I'm sure you're more than familiar
with the above(and the fundamental differences tween the scenarios).....

I don't know of any other way to get JAVA (unless one of the CD
sellers is loading it). Fix packs do not have anything to do with
JAVA. The JAVA fixes are available from:
ftp://ftp.hursley.ibm.com/pub/java/fixes/os2/11/ and follow the links.
If you are talking about Netscape Communicator 4.61, it does require
JAVA 1.1.7, or better (which is probably the source of the
"unsupported" message). 4.04 might also have a minimum required level.
You can tell which version of JAVA is installed (and, if it is
working), by going to a command line and type "JAVA -version" (no
quotes, case is important). If you have one of the later versions, you
can get a little more detail by typing "JAVA -fullversion" (no quotes,
case is important).
If you want to know which (if any) version Netscape (or any other
browser) is using, go to:
http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Heights/9885/osapplet.html
If you want to test how effective it is, go to:
http://www.pendragon-software.com/pendragon/cm3/runtest.html
Hope this helps...

I've been given a Primax Colorado USB9600 scanner to try by my local

the usbbasic.exe file at; http://www.warpupdates.de (a very useful

There are currently no OS/2 USB scanner drivers. Keep an eye on:
http://service.software.ibm.com/os2ddpak/html/index.htm
and more specifically:
http://service.software.ibm.com/os2ddpak/html/universa/index.htm
for new device drivers. Also pester the scanner people and IBM.

Not sure why. I mean, IBM has never provided scanner support for
OS/2. That was all up to the third-party developers like CFM and STi.
It is them that should be asked the question of supporting USB scanners,
not IBM.
I'm curious myself if SANE has any plans on incorporating USB
support... I have finally configured SANE to actually pickup my UMAX
610S scanner, but can't seem to do much else.

do you have to install the options one at a time?

Does this mean that you cannot get your UMAX610S to work with SANE and

Subj: OS/2 & >64 MB Detection on new boards
From: "Frank Field" <furd@mit.edu>
I got this message from Gigabyte when I was trying
to figure out why my new Athlon board wouldn't
address more than 64 megs of RAM. It points to a
problem between OS/2 internals and the emerging
hardware "standards." Anyone got any thoughts about
how to point this out to IBM?
=======
Dear Sir,
I'm responding to your FAX about BIOS problems sizing memory
above 64MB with OS/2.
OS/2 and Windows NT/9x use different BIOS calls to determine
how much memory is available. OS/2 uses INT 15h,AX=E801h
while Windows uses INT 15h,AX=E820h.
Look here, http://www.ctyme.com/intr/int.htm
<http://www.ctyme.com/intr/int.htm> to see the details.
Award has had support for the E801 call since late in 1995.
Recently, though, this support was made conditional on ACPI
in order to pass an Intel "Component Validation Test". In other
words a BIOS with ACPI support could not have E801 support.
Very recently (October), this code was refined to allow the
E801 support to be included even if ACPI is supported.
In summary, your BIOS doesn't have support for the runtime
call OS/2 needs to correctly determine how much memory
above 64MB is available. It is possible that a BIOS upgrade
from Gigabyte might fix this.
I hope this clarifies what is happening for you, and regret that
we can't make the BIOS support OS/2.

Subj: Hard drive errors
From: James Stotz <jstotz@canoemail.com>
I'm trying to re-install our lan server on one of our computers. But,
I'm having a problem with the lan fixpak. It stops saying that there
are errors on the hard drive or the sel000.cfs is corrupt (or something
like that). But, there are errors on the hard drive. The /F command on
chkdsk doesn't work because c: is being used. So I went to utility
disks, and everything seems O.K. But, booting up again shows errors
again. I quickly installed a version on my d: drive, and ran chkdsk
there. I see the sys0552 and sys0562 errors. I can run chkdsk c: /F,
and the errors disappear. When I go back to the original (c:)
partition, the errors return. I've reformated everything, installed it
and made sure everything was O.K., but as soon as I install Warp 4, the
errors come forth. I've done this many times before, but on this machine
(which worked once already) nothings doing.
Any help on how to permanently rid these errors from my system. It
keeps saying it found lost data.
Thankx,
James Stotz

They all report UTC time - most from the RTC I believe.
I do not have any applications that have a critical need for local time
so where possible I have turned the UTC clocks off and ignore the rest.
The timestamp on any new/saved files is UTC as is the timestamp on this
message (I assume).
This allows both my OS/2 and Linux installations to work in their
intended fashion - with local time reported as an offset from UTC.
According to ongoing messages in the Fidonet OS/2 conference the author
is rewriting the OS/2 command processor as "pure" 32 bit rather than the
current 16 bit and has a beta on the go. I believe that the command
processor will address the problem of OS/2 programs calling the wrong
time source (RTC rather than kernel - as described by the author - and
far too technical for me).

specific model, only a "Mouseman+" which isn't even mentioned on
Logitech's site, maybe it's an older model.

Subj: Max open files when running MSC 6.0 compiler
From: tobjr@wmdata.com
A system with several applications and dll's developed with the old
Microsoft's OS/2 C 6.0 compiler (from the early OS/2 days version 1.2
or 1.3) can be compiled and linked without any problem on Warp3. After
upgrading to Warp4 some of the applications can't be compiled. The
reason is that the compiler run out of filehandles (these applications
have many includes and dependencies etc).
How can I get around this problem so I don't need to keep one computer
in the old Warp3 just for compiling (all computers in the network
running the system have Warp4)?
I did try the config.sys parameter FILES=nnn, but it didn't work (it's
for the DOS-shell only I think).

Or use Cliff Cullum's FontFolder utility, which provides excellent font
management for OS/2. World-class font management, in fact.
It's shareware, so you can test it, and it's available online at:

Subj: Slow WPS file manipulation
From: Paul Floyd <paul_floyd@see.sig>
Hi
I've recently upgraded to Warp 4 on a new PC. I've noticed that a lot of
the file manipulations from WPS (especially file deletion) are very
slow. If anything, slower than my old PC running Warp 3 (with a CPU 15
times slower!).
I thought it might be the DELDIR environment variable. In Warp 3 it is
remmed out by default, so I thought that in Warp 4 perhaps it was set by
default. But no, it is still remmed out in my config.sys.
Does anyone else have any ideas why it is so slow?
My answer is to use gnu "rm -rf", which is indeed fast, but I don't
always want to switch to a command line to zap files.

Paul

From: Jim Parker <jdparker@erols.com>
Whenever I tried to print from EPM (Warp 4 FP9) to my HP 682C printer
(Omni driver version 30.698), the last line of each page got chopped off
- only the top sliver of the line got printed.
To solve the problem I had to create, in the the printer driver
properties, a new user defined paper size which changed the bottom clip
from 0.59 inches to 0.50 inches and then create a connection using that
paper size and then, in the printer properties, select that connection
in the job properties.
This is obviously a bug in the Omni driver - the bottom clip for letter
size paper is incorrect. Fortunately there is this work around.
Just thought the gazillion people who use OS/2 and have HP 682 printers
and use EPM to print stuff would be dying to know this :-)
Cheers

Subj: Installing Warp 4 upgrade on a machine without previous OS/2
From: lwarner010@prodigy010.net (Greg Lewis)
Hi there,
It's been a "long time" since I last did a fresh install of Warp 4. I've got
the "Upgrade for OS/2 users" version with the blue spine.
I remember that the install checks for a particular filename and all I had to
do was create a simple text file and rename it to "that" name in order to do a
fresh install... I can't remember for the life of me what the filename was.
Can someone walk me through doing a fresh install with this version? I also
don't have a clue where my earlier version cd's are.. "I've moved twice since
I last did a fresh install".
I'd -really- appreciate some help at fooling the installer... :\
Thank you very much in advance.

I'm afraid I don't really know... we're getting a bit beyond my
expertise here. I was not aware of any limitation in OS/2 LAN
Requester about subnets. It could also have something to do with
the domain you're connecting to.
Do the machines you want not have NETBEUI computer names? AFAIK,
you shouldn't have to use IP names to connect to them.
i.e., instead of "NET USE S: \\10.9.8.7\resource1" I'd expect
"NET USE S: \\SERVER1\resource1", and SERVER1 should be a unique
name on the LAN domain.
This assumes you know the name of the server you need, of course.
The network resources folder (forget exactly what it's called in
Connect) should display icons for every visible machine on the
LAN domain, and you wouldn't need to type in a name at all. Can
you not see the machines you want? (For that matter, what does
"NET VIEW" tell you? If you can't see them there either, you may
be using the wrong protocol.)

You also need an second network card for the other computer. Something
like this:
comp 1 comp2
NIC1 NIC2 hub NIC
| | | | |
| -------- -----
|
cable modem
So the computer connected to the cable modem will have 2 network cards
(NIC's). comp1 will have to do network address translation (NAT, also
called IP-masquerading). This is necessary, since your provider
probably will give you a single IP-adres, not two. There are a few
products that will do that, for instance Injoy Firewall
<http://www.fx.dk/>.
Your local network must have a special IP-range to avoid routing
problems. You typically use 192.168.1.0 for such a network.

Subj: Setting up all the stuff I need for Merlin
From: yp17@beol.net@mail.beol.net
Hey folks, I'm going to beg your assistance here.
I've been running Warp for several years, and now that I'm getting
back into OS/2 development again I am upgrading to Merlin and getting
the latest versions of the development tools to install. The problem
is that I've been working in a totally different environment lately,
and haven't kept up on the technology, so I'm having some difficulty.
I've got VACpp V3, and I have an as-yet uninstalled copy of VAJava,
and I want to go to the latest Netscape, and I want to do something
about that old PostRoad I was running... wait, let me tell you where
I am.
I downloaded FP12, and CSF 1.41 first. Then I installed Warp V4, an
interesting experience that went _MUCH_ more smoothly after I disabled
the hardware sensing. Note that I had been running Warp V4 at work for
a few years, so I was reasonably familiar with the installation
procedures and the software itself. However, at home I have no network
card, so I was surprised that I was required to configure MPTN and a
NULLNDIS mac, even though I initially decided not to install TCP/IP.
Once I had the system stabilized, particularly getting my ZOOM modem
recognized and working with SIO, I installed sound support, and TCP/IP.
Once those all worked, I installed the fixpack, which went remarkably
smoothly, and still permitted my system to work. (I had been unable to
install fixpacks on Warp V3 because it blew away the video, so I had
been running on Warp V3 for _many_ years without any fixes. Solid as a
rock.)
Ok, after getting FP12 loaded, I downloaded the latest fixes for DB2/2
and VACpp V3. I figured I had to get DB2/2 installed first, so the
data access pieces for VACpp would install. So, DB2/2 is installed and
its fixes, and VACpp is installed and its fixes. Next is -- ?
I have downloaded the secure version of NC 4.61, I am downloading the
JDK 1.1.8 and the Java runtime to go with it. I still have the VAJava
to load, and I am trying to figure out the fixes for that. It looks
from the web pages I've seen that I need the Feature Installer to
install the Java stuff I downloaded, but I need Netscape to use the
Feature Installer, but I need to have Java installed before getting
Netscape going. This is nearly circular, unless there are portions
I can install to get, uh, around that. I figure maybe the best route
is to install VAJava, which likely has with it whatever I need to get
Netscape going, so that I can then install the FI, which will let me
install the new JRE and JDK over the top of the toolkit that VAJava
requires. Have I got that right? And once I have all THAT going,
where do I go to get that Java Media tool and the new Java-based
mail tool?
Just wondering....
(Whew!)

The command is
ats32=66
I used to use that command with a Cardinal modem that was not completely
compatible with my ISP's equipment. It should let your modem connect at
56K (X2) and not V.90...
Hope this helps.

Basicly, what is required for both software and hardware to
prepare an OS/2 system for a DSL hookup. I am seriously
considering doing this before the end of the year and wonder
what networking protoclols and hardware my system will need
to be ready for PacBell to hook ne up. Their tech support
people have no ideas what is required for an OS/2 system.

I need to find device drivers for this card for Os install Any Suggestions?
Os/2 Warp Ver3 doesn't support this card because I think the sound card
has a different port address then the cd (530). Would I need to specify a
port address for the card and under what line in config.sys on disk 1?
The CDROM is not tapi compliant so I can't attatch it directly to the

Can someone help me install Warp on my system.
I currently have several problems:
1. Fdisk could not recognize my > 4 gb drive. I was able to surmount this by
downloading the drivers from ibm and including it on install disk 1.
2. I am unable to install all of the drivers from the driver file onto disk
one because they wont fit. Is there any way around this ?
3. After getting disk 6 to install, the machine reboots and is just locked up
in dead black space. It will not go any further.
If you can help please email me

You can not run them at the same time, however you can install boot manager
and have it on a partition, like I do. The only thing is I never shut down
OS/2 more than once a month for win98, and that is only for something non
productive.

One is around $150 and server is about $750. Server fully contains
Warp 4 with in it. Server has SMP (for dual intel chips) Can operate
as a network server if desired.
There are more features, anyone care to add to list?

The Warp 4 upgrade doesn't do any sniffing, unlike earlier versions.

In fact, it does. My initial guess that the subnet was
the problem was incorrect. In fact, I'm trying to cross LAN
domains.

For machines on the same LAN domain this does indeed
work. The reason I didn' know that earlier is that the LAN domain
I (must) dial into isn't the one containing the resources I need.
Thus, I need
NET USE W: \\machine.somewhere.aroundhere.atwork\share
and don't seem to be able to do it. By the way, I wanted to
use names, not numeric IP addresses, and only tried using a numeric
IP address when the normal kind of command described above didn't
work.
If all will please forgive the reference, I can do exactly
what I'm after here on Windows NT and even cite a different user ID
and password for the distant domain, if appropriate. I'd like to
think that OS/2 hasn't been left behind in this area. That's why
I wonder if some fix level might add the capability.
>Can you not see the machines you want?
I can see various machines on the same LAN domain, none
of which is of interest. What I can't find is any way to browse
other LAN domains or connect to resources on them (things I can do
on NT, but I want OS/2).

In order to view machines on another domain you need
to have that domain name listed in the OTHDOMAINS
parameter in the IBMLAN.INI file. This lets the
net view command display the other domain's
machines.
The OTHDOMAINS parameter is listed in the [requester]
section at the beginning of the file.
AFAIK each domain in the list has to separated by a comma
ie: othdomains=domone, domtwo
This presumes that your RFCNAMES.LST has the IP
addresses of the servers in that domain, or you have
some other method that provides routing to the
other sub-net for access to the servers through
TCPBEUI.
I think that the User ID and password on the second
domain has to be the same as the one you log into, unless
you use the NSC (Network Services Co-ordinator)
(I think that is what the multiple ID password control
program is called).

Like you said: Whew! OK, Warp 4 installed, good start. FP12 is next,
but get DD01 (they pulled the device driver upgrades out of the base
FP about fp10 or 11). Next, uninstall Java 1.02
(OS2\INSTALL\INSTALL\Installed features, uninstall from the icon).
Boot. Install Netscape 4.61 (no, it doesn't REQUIRE Java or FI).
Next is FI 1.25, then Java 1.1.8. There is a note in the readmes
about a netscape\program\java\118 directory - read that since the
install probably missed it. Tells you what to copy where.
Last step is to install VaJava. Lotsa luck with the help system,
especially with DB2 in the mix. That's the biggest mess I ever tried
to deal with! Add VACPP 4.0 in and at least one help system is always
broke.
For Java tools, try these:
http://www-4.ibm.com/software/ad/vajava/
http://www.ibm.com/java/jdk/index.html
Those will get you going.

Your ISP may take issue with you having more than 1 computer
connected, and doing it the way you describe, below, will do just that
... show the ISP that more than one system is connected. Each system
will be assigned its own IP address.
A better way to do it is to use a 3rd party utility such as Injoy
Firewall from FX Communications. Run that on the OS/2 computer, with 2
network cards in it. One card for the connection to the Cable Modem
and the other card for the conection to the hub. The Injoy product
will allow you to use "Network Address Translation" (NAT) so that any
other system on the LAN can access the internet through the 1
connection. It also, in the case of Injoy Firewall, allows you to
setup a Firewall to the other system on the LAN (though it won't
protect the machine that the software is running on).

Try UNZIP -v on the file to see if it is in a normal zip format.
Usually, OS/2 unzip will work fine with Windows self-extracting
