  87. I may be out of touch, but I don't know of any ISDN cards that look
  88. like a serial port to the computer. That leaves a few cards that have
  89. CAPI support for OS/2 from Elsa, Eicon, High Soft Tech and AVM. If you
  90. really have to use In-Joy, then you can use cFOS/2 to create virtual
  91. serial ports which talk to CAPI. In my opnion, that's an unholy kluge,
  92. but what do I know... I use Isdnpm which talks direct to the CAPI
  93. interface of my Teles 16.3 card. The problem with Isdnpm is that all I
  94. get is one channel and no compression, but that seems to be all one
  95. can get with a cheap CAPI cards in OS/2. Well, maybe the Ukrainian
  96. Safefire PPP will provide these features eventually.

  103. This might be a good way to go. At least then you can get two channels
  104. and even compression, if you're lucky and a) your ISP supports
  105. compression and b) your ISP supports the kind of compression your
  106. external TA can do...

  108. I can't say I know any good ISDN sites for OS/2. There used to be
  109. more, but they seem gone. Maybe the users are gone too...

  134. Are you trying to send the file as is?  As I recall, you have to 
  135. convert binary files to a "text" file, comprised of 7 bit characters. 
  136. The file will have to be converted back to the original binary at the 
  137. other end.

  176. the BEST bet (imo) is: a good external TA, plus a good COM port card,
  177. plus SIO, plus InJoy..

  215. I'm using 2 ZyXEL Elite 2864I TA's, In-Joy & SIO. (The docs say they 
  216. will handle 460Kbps. My serial ports won't.) In over 3 years I have 
  217. had one TA fail (It was replaced promptly under warranty.) and both 
  218. external power supplies failed ($35 each). I'm happy with the 
  219. equipment. It was the right choice at the time.

  221. With the price of ISDN routers and NICS today I would go with a 
  222. router.

  298.         What you need is to get a copy of PMuue it is a PM uu-ecoder/decoder.
  299. This will uuecode the Excel spredsheetso that you can use sendmail to send the
  300. file. Your receipient will need a similar program on their end to decode the
  301. file.
  302. If you other user is using OS/2 they can use the same programme. If they are a
  303. Windows user their e-mail client may decode it for them or they will have to 
  304. search for a Windows uu-decode programme.

  366. I'm using an application in a DOS window in os/2 to communicate with a
  367. servo controller (for those interested it's a Galil DMC-2050).  The 
  368. controller needs a serial connection at 19.2 kbps, and that is what I 
  369. set up in the batch file that calls the terminal application.  I've 
  370. found that calling the batch file the first time in an os/2 session 
  371. sets the communication parameters right, but if I close and then 
  372. invoke it again, the communication hangs.  
  373.  
  374. The SIO.SYS parameters come up in the Win-os/2 settings right, and 
  375. they're set up for a hardware handshake.  Every time I call the batch 
  376. file the response is:

  378. Asynchronous communication parameters have been set.
  379.  
  380. Then, the terminal application loads properly.
  381.  
  382. Why does the communication stop working when the COM port settings are
  383. sent the second time?

  434. NTL extend their cable modem trials into my area, Yorkshire!)

  436. But try asking on the OS2-UK mailing list (details on the WarpUK
  437. UK OS/2 Users's group website www.warp.in-uk.net, I'm the secretary
  438. BTW) to subscribe email list-manager@ukc.ac.uk with "subscribe
  439. OS2-UK". There are some people who use OS/2 with ISDN. I assume
  440. there using Home Highway!

  491. Greg ..  I wonder?  Can you turn the power off and on in this
  492. controller, like an external modem?  Or is it an internal device and you
  493. can't turn it off and on?  Reason I ask is that when using OS/2 and
  494. DOS-VDM sessions with TNC controllers for ham packet use, I see this
  495. sort of thing on occaision.  I can break the syndrome by turning the
  496. power off on the TNC and then life's wonderful the next time around.
  497.  
  498. It's irregular with my station.  I've not dug deeply into it.  However I
  499. think I understand that what is happening is that there is data still in
  500. the buffer for the device.  If the buffer isn't clean, then on a
  501. re-init, the device can't init, because it can't flush the buffer.
  502.  
  503. I thought I learned a long time ago that OS/2 doesn't actually have the
  504. "port" until it is needed for a certain session.  It's, remember, a
  505. virtual port, an object, if I understand all this right.  One of the
  506. problems I think I understand that erupts, is that OS/2, being
  507. pre-emptively multi-tasking, is perfectly free to both create and
  508. de-create that port as needed for its own internal threading et. al.
  509.  
  510. That ain't so good for serial port applications which are running in
  511. real time, provided that there is no real way to control the data flow
  512. in syncronization with what OS/2 will allow as a pre-emptive
  513. multi-tasker.  On packet, or for satellite links, for example, the
  514. device at the other end may not stop sending data until it can be shut
  515. down, which may be way behind what OS/2 thinks it is OK to pre-empt!
  516.  
  517. You have to excercise real control over buffering and buffer sizes to
  518. make sure you have enough space to handle all error-generated
  519. contingencies!
  520.  
  521. Thus, like cows in a trailer, if you yank the loading chute out from
  522. under the string of them coming out of the trailer down into the pen,
  523. one of two things has to happen.  Either some of them will fall out on
  524. the ground and get mangled, or, if the application can stop the herd,
  525. some of them may still be in the trailer .. lost...
  526.  
  527. If an empty trailer is one prequirement for putting a new chute in place
  528. . and you have no way to remove them .. no cows in the pen again that
  529. load.  If you can make the traier dissapear and re-appear, beef for
  530. supper!

  660. remote install, using a "Lap Link" parallel port cable.

  698. That is the routing of the server/gateway (10.0.0.95). None of the other
  699. machines have any routing info at all, only host lists and 10.0.0.95 as the
  700. DNS. The net route was generated with the "Create Default Net Route" button in
  701. the TCP/IP Configuration.

  794. Had to reinstall Windows 3.1 because I have the disks
  795. and os2 ver3. Managed to get the modem pcmia back 
  796. working: but cannot get the cd-rom back.
  797. The cd rom is an IBM teac. 
  798. I tried atapi drivers, msdex, and a  couple others, 
  799. No good.
