  1. THE BEST OF MBA - JUNE 1, 1995

  3.  
  4. "The Best of MBA" is an electronic publication from M. Bryce & Associates,
  5. Inc. (MBA) containing articles describing the principles and practices of
  6. Information Resource Management (IRM).  "THE BEST OF MBA" is intended for 
  7. an audience of I.S. and executive managers.  Application developers will 
  8. also find it of interest as will end-users.
  9.  
  10. This zipped file (BESTMBA.ZIP) contains the following files:
  11.  
  12. README.TXT  - containing these instructions.
  13.  
  14. BESTMBA.TXT - This is a version of the publication in ASCII text 
  15.               format suitable for use with your favorite text editor/
  16.               word processor.  Please note this version does not
  17.               include the graphics as used in the other two versions.
  18.  
  19. BESTMBA.INF - For use with the standard "View" utility (VIEW.EXE)
  20.               accompanying IBM's OS/2 (version 2.x or higher).
  21.  
  22. BESTMBA.HLP - For use with the standard "Help" utility (WINHELP.EXE)
  23.               accompanying Microsoft's Windows (version 3.x or higher).
  24.  
  25. FILE_ID.DIZ - Used by BBS Sysops to describe the publication (ignore
  26.               otherwise).
  27.  
  28. Both the INF and HLP file formats include graphics and text suitable 
  29. for on-line viewing.  These facilities also provide a convenient means 
  30. to quickly search through the documentation as desired.
  31.  
  32. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
  33.  
  34. 1.  COPY or MOVE the files to a separate directory; for example:
  35.  
  36.     C:\BESTMBA
  37.  
  38.     The remaining instructions pertain to the file format
  39.     you prefer:  ASCII text, MS Windows Help, or IBM OS/2 INF
  40.  
  41. FOR ASCII TEXT USERS (BESTMBA.TXT)
  42.  
  43. 1.  Start your favorite text editor/word processor and open
  44.     BESTMBA.TXT.  Search and review accordingly.
  45.  
  46. FOR MS WINDOWS HELP USERS (BESTMBA.HLP)
  47.  
  48. 1.  From the Windows PROGRAM MANAGER, execute the "RUN..."
  49.     menu item (under "FILE").  A pop-up dialog will appear;
  50.     from the "Command Line", enter the WINHELP command,
  51.     followed by the directory path/file name; for example:
  52.  
  53.     WINHELP C:\BESTMBA\BESTMBA.HLP
  54.  
  55. 2.  If you would like to place "The Best of MBA" on the Windows desktop
  56.     (in a "group").
  57.  
  58.     A.  Open a pertinent "group", such as "Accessories" or "Main".
  59.  
  60.     B.  Execute the "NEW..." menu item (under the Program Manager's
  61.         "FILE" menu).
  62.  
  63.     C.  Select "Program Item" to be installed.
  64.  
  65.     D.  Enter the name and path for the program; for example:
  66.  
  67.         DESCRIPTION       = The Best of MBA
  68.         COMMAND LINE      = WINHELP C:\BESTMBA\BESTMBA.HLP
  69.         WORKING DIRECTORY = C:\BESTMBA
  70.  
  71.     E.  Close the dialog box.  The MS question mark icon (?) should
  72.         now appear on the Windows desktop.  To execute, simply 
  73.         double-click on the icon.

  75. FOR IBM OS/2 INF USERS (BESTMBA.INF)
  76.  
  77. There are two ways of implementing and executing the OS/2 "View" program:
  78.  
  79. 1.  Open an OS/2 Window or Full Screen.  From the command line, type:
  80.  
  81.     VIEW BESTMBA.INF
  82.  
  83. 2.  Create a "View" icon on the OS/2 desktop (either Copy an
  84.     existing OS/2 program icon or use the Program Template from 
  85.     the "Productivity" folder).
  86.  
  87.     Provide the following "settings" for the program:
  88.  
  89.     Program Settings -
  90.     Path and File Name:   C:\OS2\VIEW.EXE 
  91.                           (or wherever the program is located)
  92.     Optional Parameters:  BESTMBA.INF
  93.     Working Directory:    enter the drive\directory path where the INF
  94.                           file resides; for example -
  95.  
  96.                           C:\BESTMBA
  97.  
  98.     General Settings -
  99.     Title:  The Best of MBA
  100.  
  101.     NOTE:  If you leave the "Optional Parameters" blank, you can drag
  102.            and drop the INF file to your icon.
  103.  
  104. 3.  Optional - OS/2 users can also execute the MS Windows Help version
  105.     (BESTMBA.HLP).  Either:
  106.  
  107.     a.  From the command line (an OS/2 or DOS window or full screen)
  108.         type:
  109.  
  110.         WINHELP C:\BESTMBA\BESTMBA.HLP
  111.  
  112.     b.  Establish an icon within a WIN-OS/2 session (in the "Program
  113.         Manager").  After entering WIN-OS/2, use the same instructions
  114.         as "MS Windows Help Users" above.
  115.  
  116.     c.  Establish a separate icon on the OS/2 desktop itself.
  117.         Use the following "settings" for the program:

  119.         Program Settings -
  120.         Path and File Name:   C:\OS2\MDOS\WINOS2\WINHELP.EXE
  121.                               (or wherever the program is located)
  122.         Optional Parameters:  BESTMBA.HLP
  123.         Working Directory:    enter the drive\directory path where the HLP
  124.                               file resides; for example -
  125.  
  126.                               C:\BESTMBA
  127.  
  128.         Session Settings -    Either "WIN OS/2 full screen" or
  129.                               "WIN-OS/2 window" with "separate session"
  130.                               (the latter is suggested).

  132.         General Settings -
  133.         Title:  The Best of MBA
  134.
