THE BEST OF MBA - JUNE 1, 1995 ============================== "The Best of MBA" is an electronic publication from M. Bryce & Associates, Inc. (MBA) containing articles describing the principles and practices of Information Resource Management (IRM). "THE BEST OF MBA" is intended for an audience of I.S. and executive managers. Application developers will also find it of interest as will end-users. This zipped file (BESTMBA.ZIP) contains the following files: README.TXT - containing these instructions. BESTMBA.TXT - This is a version of the publication in ASCII text format suitable for use with your favorite text editor/ word processor. Please note this version does not include the graphics as used in the other two versions. BESTMBA.INF - For use with the standard "View" utility (VIEW.EXE) accompanying IBM's OS/2 (version 2.x or higher). BESTMBA.HLP - For use with the standard "Help" utility (WINHELP.EXE) accompanying Microsoft's Windows (version 3.x or higher). FILE_ID.DIZ - Used by BBS Sysops to describe the publication (ignore otherwise). Both the INF and HLP file formats include graphics and text suitable for on-line viewing. These facilities also provide a convenient means to quickly search through the documentation as desired. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: 1. COPY or MOVE the files to a separate directory; for example: C:\BESTMBA The remaining instructions pertain to the file format you prefer: ASCII text, MS Windows Help, or IBM OS/2 INF FOR ASCII TEXT USERS (BESTMBA.TXT) 1. Start your favorite text editor/word processor and open BESTMBA.TXT. Search and review accordingly. FOR MS WINDOWS HELP USERS (BESTMBA.HLP) 1. From the Windows PROGRAM MANAGER, execute the "RUN..." menu item (under "FILE"). A pop-up dialog will appear; from the "Command Line", enter the WINHELP command, followed by the directory path/file name; for example: WINHELP C:\BESTMBA\BESTMBA.HLP 2. If you would like to place "The Best of MBA" on the Windows desktop (in a "group"). A. Open a pertinent "group", such as "Accessories" or "Main". B. Execute the "NEW..." menu item (under the Program Manager's "FILE" menu). C. Select "Program Item" to be installed. D. Enter the name and path for the program; for example: DESCRIPTION = The Best of MBA COMMAND LINE = WINHELP C:\BESTMBA\BESTMBA.HLP WORKING DIRECTORY = C:\BESTMBA E. Close the dialog box. The MS question mark icon (?) should now appear on the Windows desktop. To execute, simply double-click on the icon. FOR IBM OS/2 INF USERS (BESTMBA.INF) There are two ways of implementing and executing the OS/2 "View" program: 1. Open an OS/2 Window or Full Screen. From the command line, type: VIEW BESTMBA.INF 2. Create a "View" icon on the OS/2 desktop (either Copy an existing OS/2 program icon or use the Program Template from the "Productivity" folder). Provide the following "settings" for the program: Program Settings - Path and File Name: C:\OS2\VIEW.EXE (or wherever the program is located) Optional Parameters: BESTMBA.INF Working Directory: enter the drive\directory path where the INF file resides; for example - C:\BESTMBA General Settings - Title: The Best of MBA NOTE: If you leave the "Optional Parameters" blank, you can drag and drop the INF file to your icon. 3. Optional - OS/2 users can also execute the MS Windows Help version (BESTMBA.HLP). Either: a. From the command line (an OS/2 or DOS window or full screen) type: WINHELP C:\BESTMBA\BESTMBA.HLP b. Establish an icon within a WIN-OS/2 session (in the "Program Manager"). After entering WIN-OS/2, use the same instructions as "MS Windows Help Users" above. c. Establish a separate icon on the OS/2 desktop itself. Use the following "settings" for the program: Program Settings - Path and File Name: C:\OS2\MDOS\WINOS2\WINHELP.EXE (or wherever the program is located) Optional Parameters: BESTMBA.HLP Working Directory: enter the drive\directory path where the HLP file resides; for example - C:\BESTMBA Session Settings - Either "WIN OS/2 full screen" or "WIN-OS/2 window" with "separate session" (the latter is suggested).
