  156. This section of the manual will explain the usage of all of the Son of Shell 
  157. functions.

  160. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.1. Starting  a Window: ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  162. By selecting OS/2 or DOS you may start a windowed session in the drive of your 
  163. choice.

  168. By selecting OS/2 or DOS you may start a full screen session in the drive of 
  169. your choice.

  171. Note:  You will need to use the Window List (Alt-Esc) to access the session. 
  172. Look for CMD.EXE for OS/2 and COMMAND.COM for DOS.

  175. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3. Run a OS/2 or DOS program: ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  177. Running any OS/2, DOS, or DOS Window program in a OS/2 window is as simple as 
  178. selecting the directory and program to RUN and clicking  OK! 
  179.  
  180. Note:  You may select DOS OS/2 or DOS Windows programs to run. Some programs 
  181. like DOS Windows program may need some encouragement. Use the Window List 
  182. (Alt-Esc) to activate the session by selecting WINOS2.COM.

  185. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.4. Using the Utilities: ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  187. SOS-Assistant provides a few simple but handy utility functions that are 
  188. frequently needed. 
  189.  
  190. Edit  SOS provides access to the default editor for OS2. ( E.EXE ) You may 
  191. define any editor of your choice. 
  192.  
  193. Create ICON SOS will create and place an ICON for any program or file on your 
  194. desktop.

  199. Editing a file is as easy as selecting the directory and file to edit and 
  200. clicking OK!

  205. SOS will allow you to select the editor of your choice. We provide the basic 
  206. OS2 editor. (E.EXE)

  208. To change editors simply select Options from the menu bar and the first entry 
  209. Select Editor.  You will be provided with a file selection menu to pick your 
  210. editor. For example, to make the Enhanced Editor the default locate it via the 
  211. file menu as in this example and click on OK!

  213. Note:  The editor is expected to accept the file to edit as a parameter on the 
  214. command line.

  217. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.4.2. Create ICON: ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  219. Creating a program Icon on your desk top is as easy as selecting the directory 
  220. and program to create a desk ICON and clicking OK!

  225. The newly created program ICON may be a generic one. Only programs that have 
  226. an ICON with same name ( .ico ) such as a DOS Windows program or OS\2 programs 
  227. that have one defined as part of their extented attributes will have a 
  228. meaningful one.

  230. To change the displayed name or Icon move your mouse to the new Icon and click 
  231. the right button. Select Open  from the menu and  Settings  from the submenu. 
  232. You will find on the General tab changes for the ICON and name.  If you wish 
  233. you may even edit or change the Icon to one of your preference.

  236. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.5. Using the Mini Menu: ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  237.  
  238. The Mini Menu of Son of Shell is designed to allow you to place six of your 
  239. favorite programs in easy reach via a menu.  We have provided a selection of 
  240. OS/2 Applets to fill the menu. We encourage you to change them to accomidate 
  241. your favorite applications.

  244. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.5.1. Customizing the Mini Menu: ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  245.  
  246. To change the setting of a Mini Menu entry select Options  from the menu bar 
  247. and  Set menu A,B,C,D,E or F  from the submenu.  You will be provided a panel 
  248. to change the entry. Changes can be made in two ways: 
  249.  
  250.      o Use the search button to locate the program 
  251.  
  252.      o Reenter all the required information 
  253.  
  254. Selecting the Search will open a file selection menu. In this example we have 
  255. chosen the Ehanced Editor supplied by OS/2. 
  256.  
  257. Entering the information directly will require that you know the application 
  258. before you begin. If the program is already available via an  ICON move your 
  259. mouse to the ICON and click the right button. Select Open  from the menu and 
  260. Settings  from the submenu. The required information about the program is now 
  261. available to you. 
  262.  
  263. Some program require parameters to start correctly.  In this example the IBM 
  264. LAN Requester 3.0 program has been chosen by using the search feature. The 
  265. additional parameters of  start requester are added as program parameters.
