  2. This is version 1.00.21 of LANtastic Chat, a pre-release version.  It
  3. is compatible with the NOS 5.x and 6.x DOS and Windows versions of
  4. chat.

  6. To install this program:
  7.  
  8. 1.  Unzip the file (using version 2.04g or later of PKUNZIP.EXE) 
  9.     into the LANtastic program directory.  Two files, PMLTCHAT.EXE
  10.     and PMLTCHAT.HLP must be in this directory.
  11.  
  12. 2.  Create a program object in the LANtastic folder on the desktop.
  13.     This can be done by opening the Templates folder, and dragging
  14.     a program template to the LANtastic folder.
  15.  
  16. 3.  In the Settings dialog for the new program object, set the
  17.     program name to PMLTCHAT.EXE, then click on the General tab, and
  18.     change the title to "LANtastic Chat".
  19.  
  20. 4.  Close the Settings dialog.  You can now start a Chat session by
  21.     double-clicking on the LANtastic Chat object.

  24. IF you would like Chat to continuously listen for calls from other
  25. computers, you can add it to your startup folder.  To do this, 
  26.  
  27. 5.  Open the Startup folder, usually found in the OS/2 system folder.
  28.  
  29. 6.  Make a program object in the startup folder, as described in steps
  30.     2 and 3, above.  
  31.  
  32. 7.  After adding the program name to the Settings "Program" page, move 
  33.     the cursor to the Parameters field, and enter "-m". This starts 
  34.     Chat in the minimized state.  Chat can be run minimized to the 
  35.     desktop, to the viewer, or hidden, depending on the Minimized 
  36.     setting on the Settings "Window" page.

  38. 8.  Close the Settings dialog.  After the next system startup, when
  39.     Chat "hears" a call from another workstation, it will restore itself 
  40.     to normal size, and beep.

  43. As with previous versions, Chat listens for calls to your machine name
  44. as specified at installation time, not your login name (where they are 
  45. different).  To obtain online help for Chat, start the program, and press 
  46. function key F1.
  47.  
  48. If SMB support is enabled, the PROTOCOL.INI needs to be manually edited.
  49. The reason is that the NETBEUI_nif section NAMES parameter is set by default
  50. to 21, which is not enough to support any chat sessions.  We recommend 
  51. increasing it to 32.
