ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. LANtastic Chat Keys ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
When two key names are joined together by a plus sign (+), use these two keys
together. Hold down the first key and press the second key.
F7
Call another computer. A dialog will appear, asking for the name of
the computer to call.
Shift+F7
Hang up. Disconnect from the computer you are currently chatting
with.
Ctrl+L
Link this chat window with one or more other chat windows on your
computer. This allows you to type into one of the chat windows, and
have your message sent to all of the conversations in those windows.
Ctrl+A
Link All links this chat window with all other chat windows on your
computer. This works like Link, but affects all chat windows, not
just those with the Link option checked.
Ctrl+Insert
Copy selected text to the Clipboard. Anything currently in the
clipboard is replaced. You can copy text from either the Local or
Remote chat window.
Shift+Insert
Copy the contents of the Clipboard to the end of the Local chat
window. The text is also sent to the computer you are chatting with.
If you are linked to other chat windows, the text is sent to them, as
well.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Using LANtastic Chat ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
LANtastic Chat allows you to have a "conversation" with another computer on
your LANtastic network.
This computer
This window contains the text you send to the Remote Computer that you are
chatting with. You can clear the window by pressing the Home key. Any
other key will be displayed in this window, and sent to the Remote
Computer.
Remote computer
This window contains the text sent to you by the Remote Computer that you
are chatting with.
The Chat menu
Allows you to Call a remote computer, and to Hang up when you are finished
with your conversation. You can also Link the chat window to one or more
other chat windows so that you can conduct several conversations
simultaneously.
The Edit menu
Allows you to Copy marked text from either the Local or Remote chat window
to the System Clipboard. You can also Paste any text from the System
Clipboard into your conversation.
The Options menu
Allows you to set or change the text or background color. You also can
change the font used to display text. See Changing the Display Font and
Changing the Display Color.
The Help menu
Allows you to display on-line help for LANtastic Chat features.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.1. Starting a Conversation ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
1. From the Chat menu, choose Call.
2. Enter the name of the computer you wish to talk to. If you don't know the
computer name, you can use the LANtastic Configuration program on that
computer to show it's name.
3. Select OK.
4. When your party answers, << Connect >> will appear in the Remote computer
chat window. You may now start typing - everything you type will appear in
the Remote computer's chat window.
Note: If << Connect >> does not appear in the Remote computer window after a
reasonable time, your party may not want to chat. LANtasti Chat will
keep calling until you choose Hang up... in the Chat menu.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.2. Ending a Conversation ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
1. From the Chat menu, choose Hang up.
2. << Disconnect >> will appear in the Remote computer chat window.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3. Copying Chat Text ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
You can copy chat text to the clipboard. You then can paste this text into
other applications, such as word processors.
1. Highlight the desired log text.
2. Select Copy from the Edit menu, or press Ctrl+Insert.
The copied text overwrites the current contents of the clipboard.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.4. Pasting Text ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
You can paste text from the clipboard into your conversation. This allows you
to import text from other applications, such as word processors. To Paste,
select Paste from the Edit menu, or press Shift+Insert. The pasted text appears
at the bottom of the Local chat window, and is sent to the Remote computer you
are chatting with.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.5. Changing the Display Color ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
You can change the color used for the background and for text displayed in
LANtastic Chat.
1. Select Color from the Options menu.
2. To change the color, drag the slide bar to the desired color. To change the
text color, drag the Fg (foreground) bar. To change the background color
drag the Bg bar.
A sample of what the screen will look like appears in the Sample Text box.
Note: Changes apply to the Chat windows. You may not change the font of
highlighted text only.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.6. Changing the Display Font ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
To make the chat display easy to read on any type of monitor, you can change
the font used to display chat text.
1. Select Font from the Options menu.
2. Select a font from the Name box.
3. Select Bold, Italic, Bold Italic or Normal from the Style box.
4. Select or enter a point size in the Size box.
5. If desired, select underline, strikeout or both.
6. Select OK to apply the changes.
Note: Changes apply to the Chat windows. You may not change the font of
highlighted text only.

Call
Call another computer. A dialog will appear, asking for the name of the
computer to call.
Hang up
Disconnect from the computer you are currently chatting with.
Link
Link this chat window with one or more other chat windows on your
computer. This allows you to type into one of the chat windows, and have
your message sent to all of the conversations in those windows.
Link All
Links this chat window with all other chat windows on your computer. This
works like Link, but affects all chat windows, not just those with the

Copy
Select this menu item to copy highlighted text to the clipboard.
Paste
Select this menu item to paste text from the clipboard into your chat
conversation.

Font
Allows you to change the font used to display log entries. See Changing
the Display Font.
Color
Allows you to change the background and foreground (text) colors for log
entries. See Changing the Display Color.

From
This field shows your computer name. You cannot call your own computer.
Chat with
Enter the name of the computer you want to call in this field.
Ok
Choose Ok to call the computer who's name you entered.
Cancel
Choose Cancel to skip the call and return to the LANtasti Chat main
window.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> Fonts Window ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Name
Select the arrow to display a list of supported fonts. Select a font type.
Style
Select the arrow to display a list of styles. Select from Bold, Italic,
Bold Italic or Normal.
Size
Enter a point size or select the arrow to display a list of possible font
sizes (in points). Select a size.
Emphasis
Select Underline or Strikeout.
Sample
Displays a sample of what the text will look like with the current
selections.
Ok
Choose Ok to apply the font you selected to the Chat windows.
Cancel
Choose Cancel to return to the LANtasti Chat main window without changing
fonts.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> Colors Window ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Fg
This slide bar sets the foreground (text) color.
Bg
This slide bar sets the background color.
Sample Text
Displays what the screen will look like with the current settings.
Ok
Choose Ok to apply the colors you selected to the Chat windows.
Cancel
Choose Cancel to return to the LANtasti Chat main window without changing
colors.

The clipboard operation failed. Try the operation again. If you get the same
error, call Artisoft Technical Support.

A network error has occurred, causing your Call to fail. Try the operation
again. If it persists, you may need to call Artisoft Technical support.

The LANtastic installation profile is missing or incomplete. Use the LANtastic
Configuration program to specify a valid computer name.

You are trying to call your own computer name. You cannot chat with yourself
(at least, not with LANtastic Chat).
Enter a different computer's name.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> Error: Computer SSS not found on the network. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Chat can't find the computer name you specified on the network. The computer
may not be turned on, or may not currently be connected to the network. The
computer name may have been misspelled.
Verify the name is correct. If necessary, you can run the LANtastic
Configuration program on the machine you are trying to connect to to find out
the computer name it was installed with.
