o Restore your OS2.INI from a backup.
o Recreate your OS2.INI using MAKEINI. Refer to
your OS/2 program documentation on how to use
MAKEINI.
o Contact your IBM Service Representative.
ICAUSE: The Workplace Shell detected a problem when it
tried to delete an icon to the specified folder.
ACTION: If the folder containing the icon still
exists, drag the icon to the Shredder program icon.
If the folder no longer exists, there is no action
required.
ICAUSE: The program has detected that the product that it
is installing is currently running on the workstation.
ACTION: Stop the specified application, and then run the

itself or on the original program installation diskette.
2. Use the program found in step 1 to uninstall or
modify the application in the target directory.
ICAUSE: The program detected that the application is not
installed in the target directory and cannot therefore be
uninstalled.
ACTION: Perform these actions:
1. Determine if the application is installed on the workstation.
2. Determine if you have entered the correct target directory.
3. Try the command again.
ICAUSE: Your SYSLEVEL file has been damaged.
ACTION: Perform one of the following actions:
o Copy the SYSLEVEL file from the original application
installation diskette to the target directory.
Then, run the program again.
o Contact your IBM service representative.
ICAUSE: You did not specify a value for the indicated
parameter. All parameters that are in the form /PARAMETER:
require that you enter a value immediately following the
colon. Do not enter a space between the colon and the value.
ACTION: Run the program again, specifying a value for
the parameter specified in the message.
To view the syntax of the command, run the program

command in the documentation, and then run the program with

ICAUSE: The program has made updates to the CONFIG.SYS
file on the boot drive that require a shut down and
then a restart of your workstation before the application
program can be started.

how to shut down your workstation.
ICAUSE: The drive indicated for the parameter specified was not
a valid diskette drive. The drive indicated was either redirected from
another machine or is a local hard disk.
ACTION: Run the program again with a valid local diskette
drive indicator on the command line for the parameter
specified.
The drive indicator can have the form Z, Z:, or Z:\, where
the drive letter is any of the letters between A and Z.
ICAUSE: The cause of this error is displayed
by the program on the line immediately following the
line with message number AII0083 on it.
ACTION: Display the help for the message number that the

ICAUSE: The program detected that there is not enough disk space
available on the target drive to copy the product diskette images.
The amount of disk space required to copy the diskette images is

to copy the product diskette images.
o If you feel that this message was given in error and that there is
enough disk space available on the target drive to copy the product
diskette images, then the /DISKSPACE parameter can be added to the

could be the result of one of the following conditions:

ACTION: Ensure that the prerequisite product is installed
and the run the program again.

products. This could be the result of one of the following
conditions:
o Neither of the products are installed.
o One of the products is installed, but the workstation
has not been restarted since installing it.
o The active DPATH is different from the one specified
in the CONFIG.SYS file.
o An error occurred while the operating system was
searching the DPATH for the SYSLEVEL file.
ACTION: Ensure that one of the referenced prerequisite products
is installed and then run the program again.
ICAUSE: The program cannot find the SYSLEVEL file
associated with either of the referenced prerequisite
products. This could be the result of one of the following
conditions:
o Neither of the products are installed.
o One of the products is installed, but the workstation
has not been restarted since installing it.

o Reduce the value of the BUFFERS=, TRACEBUF=, DISKCACHE=,
THREADS=, RMSIZE=, or DEVICE=VDISK.SYS statement
in the CONFIG.SYS file. Then, restart (Ctrl+Alt+Del) the system.
o Remove unwanted files from the swap file disk and restart
the system.
o Install additional memory on your system.
If none of the above actions solve the problem, then
contact your IBM Service representative.
ICAUSE: The cause of this error is displayed

the specified file is not supported. The value is either
less than or greater than the acceptable limits for the
specified keyword.
ACTION: Correct the value for the specified keyword in the
file so that it is within the range indicated in the message
and then run the program again.

ICAUSE: A non-numeric value was specified for a keyword
that requires a numeric value.

not be accepted by the Database Manager product as a valid
database name.
The database name must be one to eight bytes starting with a letter
(A to Z or a to z) or a special character at symbol (@), number sign (#),
or dollar sign ($).
After the first character, the following are valid:
o letters (A to Z or a to z)
o digits (0 to 9)
o any of the three special characters above or an
underscore (_).
ACTION: Change the database name in the configuration or response file
to conform with the rules provided above, then run the program again.
ICAUSE: There is not enough memory available for the
program to finish processing. If segment swapping is active,
the swap file may be full.
ACTION: Perform one of the following and retry the command:
o Reduce the number of running programs.

variable in the current OS/2 environment. The environment
should be installed by LAN NetView Manage in the CONFIG.SYS file.
ACTION: If you are currently uninstalling the application and
LAN NetView Manage was previously uninstalled, then there is
no action to take. Otherwise, perform the following actions:
o Ensure that you have restarted the system after installing
the referenced product.
o Ensure that the 'SET' statement for the environment
variable is in the CONFIG.SYS file on the boot drive.
o Ensure that the OS/2 environment in which the install
program is being run contains the environment variable.
ICAUSE: The program has found its SYSLEVEL file in a directory
other than the current target directory.
ACTION: If the application is installed in the directory indicated
in the message, then it is important to perform one of the following
actions:
o Ensure that the directory is not refrenced in the LIBPATH, DPATH, or PATH
statements in the CONFIG.SYS file.
o Erase the application files in the indicated directory.
Do not UNINSTALL the program from the directory indicated.
This will create undesired results.
ICAUSE: The program has detected that the LAN NetView
installation program is currently running on the workstation.
ACTION: Stop the LAN NetView installation program and then run
the command line installation program again.
ICAUSE: The cause of this error is displayed
by the program on the line immediately following the
line with message number AII0140 on it.
ACTION: Display the help for the message number that the

ICAUSE: The target directory that you provided on the command
line is the same directory as or a subdirectory of the
source directory.
For example, the following source-target pairs would not
be allowed:

ACTION: Run the program again, specifying a target directory
that is not the same as or a subdirectory of the source
directory.
ICAUSE: The target directory that you provided on the command
line is the same as the source directory.
ACTION: Run the program again specifying a target directory
that is not the same as the source directory.
ICAUSE: An error occurred while copying the indicated file
because it is locked by another process. The existing file will
be used by the install.
ACTION: None.
ICAUSE: The program was unable to erase one or more files for
one or both of the following reasons:
o The files are in use by one or more running programs.
o The files have the read-only attribute set.
A locked file device driver has been installed in your CONFIG.SYS
file on the boot drive. When the workstation is restarted, this
device driver will erase the unwanted files and directories from
from your target drive. It will also remove itself from the
CONFIG.SYS file.
ACTION: Shut down and then restart (Ctrl+Alt+Del) your
workstation. Refer to your OS/2 program documentation for
how to shut down your workstation.
ICAUSE: The program could not remove the specified directory
for one of the following reasons:
o Files were copied to or created in the directory after the initial
install of the program.
o A subdirectory was created after the initial install of the program.
o The specified directory is the current directory of one or more
running programs or OS/2 sessions.
o One or more files exist in the directory that are in use by one
or more running programs.
ACTION: Perform one of the following actions:
o Look at the files that remain in the directory and erase those
that you do not want to keep.
o If a subdirectory exists, remove the subdirectory and then remove
the directory.
o Ensure that the specified directory is not the current directory for
any running program or OS/2 session and then remove the directory.
o If files exist that are in use by running programs, then attempt to
erase the files after the system has been restarted.
ICAUSE: The program was unable to replace one or more files
for one or both of the following reasons:
o The files are in use by one or more running programs.
o The files have the read-only attribute set.
A locked file device driver has been installed in your CONFIG.SYS
file on the boot drive. When the workstation is restarted, this
device driver will erase the unwanted files and directories from
from your target drive. It will also remove itself from the
CONFIG.SYS file.
ACTION: Shut down and then restart (Ctrl+Alt+Del) your
workstation. Refer to your OS/2 program documentation for

an icon to the folder indicated, then reinstall the specified
product and then run this program again.
o If the folder has been moved from its original location since
the machine was last started, shut down and then restart
(Ctrl+Alt+Del) your workstation and then run the program again.
ICAUSE: The program cannot find the SYSLEVEL file associated with the
referenced product. This could be the result of one of the following
conditions:
o The product is not installed.
o The product is installed, but the workstation has not
been restarted since installing it.
o The active DPATH is different from the one specified
in the CONFIG.SYS file.
o An error occurred while the operating system was
searching the DPATH for the SYSLEVEL file.
ACTION: Ensure that the product is installed and the run
the program again.
ICAUSE: The cause of this error is displayed
by the program on the line immediately following the
line with message number AII0184 on it.
ACTION: Display the help for the message number that the
program displayed immediately after the line with
message number AII0184 on it.
ICAUSE: The program detected an error while running
from the OS/2 or C function indicated in the message.
The function indicated does not generate return codes.
ACTION: Review the documentation for the component that
generated the message.
ICAUSE: The program detected that the FFST/2 program
that is installed on the workstation is an earlier version
than the version required to run LAN SERVER Specialist. The version
that is required is displayed in the message.
ACTION: Refer to the LAN Server documentation for information
on how to install the proper version of the FFST/2 program.
