  6. At first:

  8. This program is only for people who works object oriented with the Workplace
  9. Shell under OS/2 and must use WINDOWS-programs.
  10.  
  11. What's on ?
  12. ~~~~~~~~~~~
  13. To create for example a text with WINWORD you can start WINWORD, type in your
  14. text and call "Save as...". This is not that what I mean.
  15. I have in my template folder an empty Winword-Text and set it as template.
  16. If I want to create a new text I drag it to my text folder. So I have a new
  17. icon. Now I give the Icon the name for my text and can edit the text with
  18. WINWORD if the association for *.DOC is correct.

  22. But what happens if I use a long name for the new text ?
  23.  
  24. For OS/2 programs no Problem.

  26. And now LFNCall:

  28. After the installation of LFNCall there is an icon "Winword-LFN", which is
  29. associated with the file type "*.DOC".
  30. With double click on a text with the name "letter to chef.DOC" happens the
  31. following:

  33. The file will be copied with a short name into the temporary directory
  34. (f.eg. D:\TMP) and WINWORD will be startet with this file.

  36. Negative:

  38. To save the edited document the application must be closed if you are ready.
  39. Second the file name that is shown in the title of the started program is
  40. the short name of the temporary file.

  44. Long file names can be used and shown with a OS/2-Viewer, for example HyperView.

  46. Installation:

  48. Who is reading this text has already decompressed the ZIP-File in a directory
  49. on the harddisk.

  51. Attention: REXX must be installed.
  52.  
  53. Now you can start INSTALL.CMD. First you type "E" for english. Then you can
  54. start the installation with <Enter>. The files will be copied to the WIN-OS/2-
  55. directory, don't worry you can deinstal with DEINSTAL.CMD.
  56. Then the LFN-folder and the icons will be created.

  58. For some programs the setup is automated. Only for the path of EXE-file you are
  59. asked. The following programs can be set up with INSTALL.CMD:
  60. - MS Winword
  61. - MS Excel
  62. - Lotus Wordpro for Windows
  63. - Lotus 1-2-3 for Windows
  64. - Corel Draw!

  66. The icons will automatically associated with the file filters:
  67. *.DOC, *.XLS, *.LWP, *.WK?, *.CDR

  69. Would you like to use other programs look at the settings of the symbols.
  70. For the association with the file filter you should delete old associations
  71. and the set the new filter. So this will become the default association.
  72. Or you do this with ASSOEDIT from Henk Kelder, there you can set the default.

  74. ATTENTION: The long file names don't have 2 spaces at once. There can be more
  75. spaces but not at once. Also there can be german ä,ö,ü,ß or "!!" or wraps.

  79. The shareware version is different from the registrated in the only start of
  80. one program with long file name at same time.
  81. There are no reminders or anything other. The unlimited use in this form is
  82. allowed without support.

  108. The program DSTART.EXE, which is used, is from Mark Kimes, the autor of the
  109. most famous file manager FM/2. It is one from his freeware utilities.
  110. It is the equivalent of the OS/2 start command to use from the VDM.
