DBEClip v 1.00 18 August 1996 : 2450313.4758218 GMAT
---------------
Designer Software's "DBexpert" v2.01/2.02 database program
for OS/2 has very nice query tools and good report
functions, but uses a proprietary format for clipboard cut
and paste functions which does not allow the user to paste
selected records as text into other programs, or edit
records as text and add or replace existing records in
DBExpert queries or tables.
DBEClip provides a workaround by toggling data on the
clipboard between the DBExpert "DSDATAROWS" format, and
tab-delimited text. Compatible text placed on the clipboard
from a spreadsheet, can then be directly entered into a
database after transformation by DBEClip using DBExpert's
paste function. Similarly, after copying a number of
records in a query or table and transforming the clipboard
contents with DBClip, the data can be paste into a table in
a wordprocessor.
To install DBEClip, unzip the file in the directory of your
choice, and run the DBC_INST command after changing to that
directory. Install the program object on the launchpad by
dragging with the right mouse button to the desired
launchpad location. If you don't want the popup messages to
display on DBEClip actions, open the settings/properties
notebook of the program object (RMB click - Properties or
Settings), and add "-q" to the parameters field.
To run DBClip, just press the launchpad icon --- DBClip
will popup a message box indicating the action taken. Note
that not all clipboard data can be converted to DSDATAROWS
format. (Only consecutive non-empty rows of text, which
have an identical numbers of tab characters will be
processed.)
DBClip is supplied as is, without any warranty expressed or
implied. Use entirely at your own risk. While the program
has been tested with both text and floating point data,
unpredictable results may occur if the text converted does
not match the table size or comply with the table rules
(e.g. verification, null fields permitted), including
possible loss of data.
But hey,it's free !
