  90. Yafvii is best installed as a user application. As such you will have to do 
  91. three things. 
  92.  
  93.    1. Copy yafvii.exe to a user file directory such as \os2\apps 
  94.  
  95.    2. Copy yafvii.hlp to a help directory such as \os2\apps\help 
  96.  
  97.    3. Create a program object for yafvii. 
  98.  
  99.  1) and 2) If you hard disk is c: and you have not modified OS/2 directories. 
  100.  
  101.   copy yafvii.exe c:\os2\apps
  102.   copy yafvii.hlp c:\os2\apps\help
  103.  
  104.  3) Open the Templates folder and drag a Program template to your preferred 
  105.  place for the yafvii icon.

  107.  When prompted, fill in the filename of yafvii. eg c:\apps\yafvii.exe 
  108.  
  109.  Select the General tab and enter the name you wish to give yafvii eg 'View It 
  110.  All'.

  112.  Close the settings dialog.

  114.  If you are a registered user, you should set the registration CRN at this

  174. This menu enables you to open a file, or exit yafvii. There is no separate 
  175. close file, who wants to look at a blank screen anyway?

  185. Use the standard file dialog provided. If you have a file already opened, you 
  186. are prompted with this file. If you do not know how to use a standard file 
  187. dialog, feel free to experiment. Because this is only a file viewer, you cannot 
  188. do any damage.

  190. Hint. Double click on a text item in a listbox to select a file, change 
  191. directory, change drive.

  202. First select the search mode you require. The search will be performed in the 
  203. mode selected, regardless of the actual display mode.

  205. Enter the text or hex string you require. In the case of a hex string you must 
  206. specify a fixed number of bytes. eg 'a' must be typed as '0a'.

  214. Select find. If you wish to start a search from the start of the file, select 
  215. home first.

  222. You may set colours and fonts from this menu, or register yafvii. Please read 
  223. the read.me file supplied for further information on how to register.

  228. Select this option to show line numbers on an ASCII display.

  233. You may select any font from this standard font dialog. If you wish to change 
  234. the colour of text, open the pure colour palette in the system folder, and drag 
  235. a colour to the sample display shown. Look at the OS/2 tutorial to see how to 
  236. drag and drop.

  238. You can also drop colours on the main yafvii text screen. This will change the 
  239. background colour of the window. 
  240.  
  241. All colour and font settings are saved on exit.

  243. Warning 
  244. Small or inappropriate fonts can cause severe headaches and/or eyestrain!

  249. The statistics menu displays the current memory usage of yafvii. It also shows 
  250. your customer registration number if you are registered. Registered users can 
  251. expect to use this number to obtain technical support.

  268. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. ASCII Mode ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  270. In ASCII mode, plain text is shown in readable form on the screen. Note that 
  271. word processor files are not often in ASCII, as they usually also contain such 
  272. things as formatting and hilighting information. Yafvii will automatically pick 
  273. ASCII mode depending whether the file can reasonably be expected to be read. 
  274. Any fonts you select will only work in ASCII mode.

  276. If you disagree with the display mode, select either HEX or ASCII to change it.

  281. Any file considered unreadable by yafvii will be displayed in HEX. This is a 
  282. hexadecimal, (numerical) display of the values found in the file. To make 
  283. things easier, the ASCII equivalent is also shown where possible.

  285. Any fonts you select will only work in ASCII mode. 
  286.  
  287. If you disagree with the display mode, select either HEX or ASCII to change it.

  292. To make yafvii quick at starting, Help is not automatically enabled. On a slow 
  293. PC this makes yafvii much faster, and on a fast PC, it's only slightly more 
  294. difficult to get help. Many users may not even notice the difference. 
  295.  
  296. Having made it to here, help is now Enabled. 
  297.  
  298. To enable help select Help from the menubar or press the F1 key. Help will also 
  299. automatically be enabled when selecting a Help button in a dialog. 
  300.  
  301. Until help is enabled pressing F1 during a menu selection will have no effect. 
  302.  
  303. If help is enabled select Help.. and then the topic of interest. If no specific 
  304. help is available, the About page is displayed. See Using Help for a more 
  305. detailed description of the help system.
